  1. Is bottom six already more or less set?

    with this group of 7?

    Leblanc-Eller-Palushaj

    Moan-White-Staubitz-Geoffrion?

Or will Moan and/or Staubitz be sent packing in Bergevin housecleaning?

If Gallgher were to shine in fall and make roster, would he likely be slotted on Eller line? Might Shultz get a crack at goon/ 4th line role (still not likely able?)?

    Here's how I see out bottom 6:

Re-sign Moen and Staubitz, and maybe a prospect can make the team out of camp. Galchenyuk could, but after missing a whole season last year because of injury, I think one season in Sarnia couldn't hurt him, but if he shows he's NHL capable, I say give him a shot. Gallagher COULD make the team out of camp, but I think a season in Hamilton would be beneficial to him. Let's say both Moen and Staubitz are re-signed, I think with either a prospect (Galchenyuk, Gallagher...) or a free agent signing (someone like Prust) it looks something like this:

    Moen-Eller-Gallagher/Galchenyuk/Prust/Geoffrion

    Staubitz-White-Prust/Geoffrion

  2. Ha ha, well, it depends what you mean by 'biased.' As a fan, you can have an irrational liking or disliking for a player/coach/GM, or whatever - or you can have a reasonably well-founded liking or disliking of them. The first, I would call 'bias.' The second I would see as a defensible opinion. For instance, I thought a lot of the loathing of Jacques Martin was rooted in a focus on irrelevant factors, like his lack of personal charisma. Sheer irrational 'bias.' But some people offered more thoughtful criticisms (of his bench management, whatever), which I might have disagreed with but I thought more in the way of 'defensible opinion.'

I'm definitely a Therrien skeptic, based on his track record of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. (I am also extremely leery of his apparent hate-on for Subban - if we end up trading PK because Therrien can't work with him, that will be an inexcusable sin). That said, I always add the following qualifiers: first, Therrien might be older and wiser and better; and second, I think we'll have a bounce back year no matter who is coaching us, just because everyone will be so relieved and energized to have a fresh start after last season. So hopefully this is not just fuming unreasoning dislike, but defensible skepticism.

Fundamentally, none of us really knows how Therrien will perform. We hope we get the guy who coached Pittsburgh as all those stars rounded into form and went to the Finals (assuming he was more than a cheerleader for a stacked squad); we fear getting the guy whose antics helped to ruin the Carolina series and who was so disastrous that Pittsburgh management felt they had no choice but to fire him with three years left on his contract.

Anyway: I didn't invent that 'boring defensive systems' stuff. That's Therrien. Personally, I don't care about that - I endorse any system that helps a team win - but there's good reason to doubt that he is the man to get Gomer 'I wanna play freewheeling hockey' Pyle back on track. Hence my remark in this thread.

    OK, carry on!

Your skepticism is well justified! However, Therrien deserves a chance. Also, if he doesn't meet expectations, and turns out to not be a good fit for the team, I am pretty sure Bergevin will see it and not hesitate to replace him! I'm sure the new GM would rather admit he made a mistake choosing a coach and correcting it instead of not admitting it and letting an unfit coach stay behind the bench. But IMO, the work he did with Pittsburgh is remarkable, granted he had a bunch of star players! If he can do right what he did with the Penguins, to at least get this team back into the playoffs, then he will have done more than enough. Once we actually reach the playoffs, anything is possible (see 2010, no one expected us to go defeat both Pittsburgh and Washington). I am really looking forward to the next season!

  3. In the UFAs, the habs should either take a small cost-low risk chance on Lats and Mueller, or sign either one of Doan, Semin, Parenteau, Penner or Jagr! Before that, the first thing to try is a trade to acquire a young, top-6 caliber winger because all the UFAs I listed, except Lats and Mueller, are older and we need to go for youth. However, I believe any of the ones I named could make a decent winger for Plekanec!

  4. I want Moen to return, a LW to play with Pacioretty and Gionta (either a one year rental or 2/3 guy), a fourth line centerman who can win faceoffs and either a top four defenceman with shutdown ability or a sixth defenceman with enough grit and smarts to clean up after Kaberle.

LW: Ray Whitney, Guillaume Latendresse, Jiri Hudler

C: Paul Gaustad, Dominic Moore, Jay McClement, Adam Burish

D: Michal Rozscival, Bryan Allen, Greg Zanon, Milan Jurcina

a LW to play with Pacioretty and Gionta? Pacioretty is a LW and Gionta is a RW, what we need is a good winger (either LW or RW) to play with Plekanec!

  5. All I can say is, if the Habs dealt away Malkin for that return, most of us would be fuming. Anyway, that's a scenario I can accept. I just don't believe it will come to pass. Like I say, the rumours from Pittsburgh have involved a Staal trade, not Malkin.

Well honestly, if we trade our pick for Jordan Staal, I will be happy!

  6. Why would Pittsburgh make that deal? I'll bet it's Jordan Staal coming back, not Malkin.

I'm just gonna put my hands in ears and go LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOUUU!!! for these Subban rumours, because I don't believe we will get his true value back. And if there's any truth to the rumours, they had better have nothing to do with Therrien's hate-on for the kid - under absolutely no circumstances should we trade PK to please that sweaty mass of human mediocrity that is Therrien. PK will be kicking butt and taking names for many years after Therrien has been unceremoniously canned, as is his inevitable fate.

Well they would make that deal because Subban is a gonna be a top dman and the pick will get them a suitable replacement for malkin, which they can slowly and carefully develop, because that would make Staal the 2nd line center after Crosby, who is their captain and superstar!
