Not luck at all. It's ace goaltending meets popgun offence

The Rangers have had an answer for everything the Habs have thrown at them. You have to give them credit-over the past seven years they've been right there with all the contenders, and often beaten by the very best. They had a bastard of a division this year, but I think they'd be a 106-112 point team in the Atlantic. They deserve a lot more respect than the hockey world gives them.

Anyone else worried that once again, after dominating, they got one goal and couldn't extend the lead. Rangers will be storming out in the second.

I am, but that's the lay of the land in this series. The Rangers were 17 seconds away from a 2-0 lead and the Habs won the game in OT. I think they could play this series 100 times and it would be 52-48 either way. The two teams are really similar.

What's encouraging is that they dominated but didn't try to run the Rangers out of the rink like Game 5. Claude forgets he's not coaching the Bruins!

That would explain why it's not going in for him despite a profusion of chances. But at this point, excuses be damned, it's do or die.

I just wish they would sit out unless they're at least 85%. It's obvious teams say players are hurt after eliminations to protect them from the media. I mean...they lie about injuries all the time anyways.

  4. To be fair, I had the Habs pegged as a 2nd round team and the who knows. This is definitely a 2nd round type series in close play and caliber of the two teams. They need to adjust the playoff format. It wouldn't have saved the Habs this year as a #4 seed, but it's not giving the league more rivalries. The second round is now a turd. And it's really disjointed to have teams cross into divisions of it's supposed to be a divisional playoff, right?

4th liners are not an issue, King is heavy, dosent get pushed around, protects puck well, plays smart. And don't you think Julien might know a thing or two about who might be best to help win?

And didn't everyone who needed to vent...do exactly that after game 5? Your splitting hairs whether it is Martinson-King-McCarron or Flynn playing limited minutes.

It s the forwards who are playing 15-20 minutes and the defense needing to play smarter in own end that should step up to make a difference (how a Nash keeps being left alone in Habs end is hard to figure out, he is a big dude?).

Let's just dispel with this ridiculous idea that players with one or zero points are somehow indispensable or not fair game for criticism.

Anyone else have their misery over last night's lost compounded today by the taunts of gloating Senators fans?

People gleefully pointing out that Habs are on the brink while the Sens are in the drivers' seat, how BOBBY FREAKING RYAN has 3 goals while Max has done nothing, ect. made for a long day.

The Sens are nobodies. I don't have to deal with their fans, but they're headed to the second round because of the playoff format and the Habs or the Rangers are going to eat their lunch.

Team gave a great effort, ran out of energy and lost in overtime. Could of went either way but the series is far from over. Is there any voice of reason on this pathetic hockey forum?  Let's make magical trades and bring in Stamkos and Crosby for Carr and Ott and then trade Pacioretty for a bag of shyte because didn't score all those goals over the years - that was a mass illusion. Coming here and reading these negative comments from spoiled brats that think they know anything puts a real downer on being a Habs fan. You want a dominant team that is a cup favourite every year? Quite simple. Tank for about 6/7 years, collect the best players available at the draft and go from there.  Is that what you want? A whole bunch of you need a reality check like you wouldn't believe.  Either that or you're a bunch of 12 yr olds that need more t!tty time from mommy.

Spoiled brats? The team hasn't been to the Cup in 25 years, and they haven't been a serious contender in decades. They're five years into a quasi-rebuild and it's almost time to go back to the drawing board. The fans of this pathetic franchise have plenty to complain about, especially given how much the Molsons make off of us. We want some results, and after a quarter century anybody who's content with the status quo deserves to root for the Maple Leafs.

the word on the street (in Montreal) is that Chucky loves his Crescent street bars, women, and booze; and not necessarily in that order.  Based on MB's need for "character" players, It wouldn't surprise me if he's not back next year.

Whether you love him or hate him, this is Max's team right now... make no mistake about it.  Chucky isn't playing with Max because Max doesn't want him to...Why did DD play with Max? because of Max  ..PD is playing with him, because (you guessed it!!) Max wants him to. When Chucky centers Max, its harder for him...he has to chase the puck more AND cover up for Chucky's mistakes (which are many and often).

Anyway, this is our team and, aside from the Chucky drama, we knew going in that  this team has more holes than swiss cheese.  The good news ?  So does every other team in the league...even the mighty Pens (eventually Fleury will let them down).   New York, Boston, Ottawa, Toronto, etal...all have problems. Look, Chicago was knocked out in 4 straight...should Toews be tarred and feathered?

This series is going 7 games...and hopefully OUR team (warts, holes and all) wins game 7.

Definitely. Major trade, fired coach, imminent first round exit. Sounds about right.

Cuke, I agree that there are a lot of problems that are beyond Pacioretty about the team.

And maybe it sounds unfair to want Pacioretty to play differently from his game. But his game is not working. And if you shoot the puck 24 times the way it usually goes in and it doesn't, you are just the definition of insanity.

The real problem I think is Pacioretty shouldn't be the captain and star of the offence. There should be someone with more responsibility than him. Look at Kessel in Pittsburgh or Phaneuf in Ottawa. That'll eventually be Patches. He was given too much responsibility here, he will one day go play for another team and not be expected to be the star. Maybe if Radu signs long term that can still be the case.

I just want Pacioretty to look like this is the playoffs and not just another game.

I don't think it's a straw man argument where fans want Pacioretty to become Wayne Simmonds, we simply want to see some hustle and grit. And yes, if playing above the defense isn't working, it's on him to go down low and to the net. The Rangers have adjusted to him, and he's been quite easy to shut down. I don't really care for the scoring chances argument, because to my eyes, there are four or five chances a game not including goals. I don't buy this "high danger, low danger" crap. Playoffs are results and not process oriented. We don't have the benefit of an 82 game sample size for the margins to be colored in by variance.

A lot of the blame needs to go to the center situation. Whether you want to blame management or Galchenyuk is another discussion. Phil Danault shouldn't be a top-6 center. He's been as bad as Dwight King this playoff. I think he's learning on the job and that it takes a couple of playoffs to really get going.

I'm on Vancouver time, but I'm still pissed as well. Not at anyone in particular...just sort of the universe. I'm so fed up with being disappointed by the Habs: Price injury in 2014, 2015 against TB, all of 2016...now this. Sure, they have a solid chance of winning Game 6. But right now, it's just more disappointment. It's one thing to have your team lose when it's in the first pangs of a rebuild, or when it's an 'up and coming' team and you can look forward to next year. But this team's window was wide open as of last season, is wide open this season, and probably won't last more than another 3 years or so beyond that IMHO. We're healthy, unlike most years. This is the time to be making a long playoff run.

One thing that *is* ticking me off in a more particular way is the crapping on Pacioretty, though. I think it's unfair, based completely on a single stat (goals scored) rather than on actually watching his play, which has been strong. Including tonight. Meanwhile, Galchenyuk - really the only Hab who is transparently FAILING in these playoffs - seems to be getting off scott free.

What you're forgetting about Galchenyuk, though, is that he was 7th in ice time and playing on the second PP. He's being treated like secondary scoring, and he's provided none. But as of right now, he's done just as much as Pacioretty-one really nice primary assist.

At this point the "Max is fine" crowd in the fan base seems more invested in their opinion of the player than his actual performance. This happened with Subban at times as well. Max has been horrible. It's the first talking point in the hockey world surrounding the Canadiens for a reason. You can look at heat maps, or sonor, or the Zapruder video of his shots from the fourth row, or listen to a Johnnie Cochran deposition, but if you take him out of the series, the result is exactly the same. He's been terrible. I can't remember a player whose performance has disappointed me more in the playoffs. This is Jumbo Joke territory.

  11. I'm looking at comments on Twitter and H/IO, and the consensus is to trade Max, Galchenyuk, and then sign a center and a number 2 defenseman or some other big moves. They already made a bunch of shakeups this year. Weber, Shaw, Julien, Radulov. Markov and Plekanec are getting older. Price is merely great. Contracts are up. I think the holes in the boat are moving faster than the pails throwing the water overboard.

    Champs in 2025?

  12. They shot their load in the second period. They needed a couple of goals that didn't materialize. From the midway point, the Rangers had the run of play and in OT, the Habs were all done.

Don't want to start the post-mortem too early, but Movie Max, Galchenyuk, a lack of a real offensive center killed this team. Their best players aren't the type to get it done, and guys who probably could win a cup at some point like Markov and Weber are just too old. Bergevin gets fired at the end of next year.
