  1. I don't like White being out for three games. This is more than a lesson. Colby Armstrong is useless, White should never take the place of Lars Eller, but at the end of the day we are keeping Armstrong in for the PK. The PK which White was on last year, and was 2nd in the league. A PK that stinks now. Colby Armstrong is the most useless player i've seen since Aaron Palushaj. He isn't rough, he can't score, he can't fight. White is far superior to Armstrong in every category. Had he not played with Sidney Crosby, he would be out of the league.

  2. The Habs fans are back to classic form! We win four straight, play a game back to back, and play our back up, and surprise surprise, we lose. Obviously, after reading this board and HIO's these comments are overreactions:

-Budaj should be waved after being a sieve in his first game in 9 months.

-Ryan White should be sat or off the team.

-The teammates don't want PK back

***Budaj sucks, let's face it. Not every team has Roberto Luongo, Robin Lehner or Brian Elliot as a back up. You take what you can get, but this performance was very bad, especially on the fourth goal.

***Regarding Ryan White. This was a bad call. His stick was held, and he was given a roughing and an unsportsmanlike, which was unnecessary for him to complain, and for the ref to give. First of all, the referees this year are calling the NHL like a woman's league. I wonder if they want these guys to play with something other than sticks? Second of all, White drives that fourth line. He is a good fourth line center, wins a lot of faceoffs, and is awesome on the forecheck. Should we give his spot to Lars Eller, or beg Andreas Enqvist to return from the KHL? If you think we need "more production" out of a fourth line center, well, you don't understand the purpose of a fourth line. Third of all, we need guys like White, he sticks up for teammates, and every good team needs an agitator. His penalties will be less transparent once PK comes back and the penalty kill comes together.

***Teammates don't want PK. Everyone needs to give the guy a break. Management is already on his ass after screwing him on a contract. They seem to want PK to be something else, he is a total player, a franchise player, and we divest so much of the time to send him to rural hockey "finishing school" where players are taught to be humble, unquestioning, and quiet. Why he wants to play here at all is a mystery to me.

  3. This team looks great so far. The difference this year, besides Markov and the PP, is the charachter guys on the bottom six. No longer do we have to suffer through the Andreas Enqvists, the Tommy Pyatts, and the Mathieu Darche's. Good on Therrien to understand that the bottom six plays an important roll, and I love how he uses checking lines against scoring lines. I think this is propelling the offense. Firewagon hockey is back!

  4. Apparently Perreault has voiced his desire to be traded if he's not part of the Capitals' "plans"

    http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2013/01/23/mathieu-perreault-trade-me-if-i-am-not-part-of-your-plans/

Thank God, Gainey/Gauthier aren't around, they would be all over him. A soft French or European second/third line winger who does nothing but complain, and shows up when he wants. I think if we went 2-6-2 Gainey would trade Tinordi for him.

  5. It is pretty depressing to see our cap space be lower then Pitts when they have the best two players in the league locked up and a real contending team. Worse, he haven't even signed PK yet, which will put us near the highest paid teams in the NHL while being one of the worst on the ice. All those deals where we picked up an expensive, but average player, or overpaid add up.

Granted, Gomez comes off the books next year but then the cap comes down.

This team may need a year or two more in the basement to build a pool of very good players, vs good players. More Galys...

We also need some tight fiscal management to ensure we have money when we really need it for the true push for the cup. I would avoid any long veteran contracts for a while if possible.

I fear we have been no better then Toronto... Wasting money thinking we are only a piece or two away...over estimating the core...

Anyway, I hope Bergevin can be patient and do a proper rebuild of the core... I am willing to suck a year or two if it gives us a real shot at a cup in 4 or 5 years...

Did you actually think these chumps were going to make the playoffs this year, sorry to sound negative but Gauthier and Gainey ****ed this team for at least three more years:

-Bad signings/trades (Bourque, Kaberle, Diaz, Gomez, etc)

-Overestimating the core (Gionta, Cammalleri, Markov, Markov, Markov)

The bad news is that we have at least two years before we make the playoffs again. The good news is that we are doing it the right way, we are done going the Calgary/Toronto route where we do anything to get that coveted 8th place spot. This team has been terrible for twenty years, and we are finally on the right track. Let the bangers and the young guys fill the seats, develop on our own time, and hope for better days.

  6. I'm in the Gally camp! This kid is a game breaker. He has the skill to win a game with a single goal and an intelligent passer that sees the play develop during a regular shift!

I compare his shot to the last sniper we were blessed to have in critical times on the PP and on our top two lives in the recent past.... that would be #27 himself...

In my humble opinion they don't only share the same first name of Alex! They also share a tremendously accurate shot! And an electifying wrist shot.

NOW! is he NHL ready. This is a question only he will answer to us in the first five games. IF he is a game breaker as I predict within the first five games. At least twice! ( in two of the first five games of this season) Then he will be kept with the club. If his +/- is not up to snuff and does not become a shootout lights out magic man! then he goes down.

If its me making the call as GM for the habs; he goes down to the minors now! I agree with a few of the comments in the thread. Lets not burn the value of one full season with the habs and lets bring a talent like his allong gently. No need to rush a sure shot superstar in the making.

    GO HABS GO!

I don't like this argument. "Hey look! He's going to be great, and he's ready, but we have to save 3-5 million dollars in 2015." Makes no sense whatsoever, especially when we've paid multitudinous amounts of dough to Gomez, Kaberle and Markov for very little production. I understand that we're gunshy, but he's clearly not Guillhomo Fatendresse or Pacioretty. He's a potential # 1 pick and franchise player, and you don't keep a Ferrari in the garage. Send him down, for what?. So he can rip it up against teens and overages in the CHL? His development is done until he comes to the NHL and if he has character flaws and can't handle the Big Show, we need to know this asap.

  7. But why should we jerk him around? You could play devil's advocate and say that Price has only won 1 playoff series and Pacioretty is already a concussion risk, with a broken neck to boot. Both of these guys got big paydays. At this point, I really can't find anything wrong with Subban. Having him, Pacioretty and Price locked up for 6 years each finally gives this team an identity that we've missed since the failed 09 rebuild. Unless you count "the smurfs" as a desirable identity. What if he breaks out the next two years, scores 100-130 points, and somehow gets nominated for a Norris? Do we really need to go through a Drew Doughty type holdout situation?

  8. I would just bite the bullet now. 6 years, 30 million. The one thing about PK is that he's never really been injured. He's very durable, and a true competitor. I don't need to rehash all of his skills again, but can you think of one skill this guy doesn't have? He's great in all situations. I think PK is the franchise player, not Carey Price, Pacioretty or Galchenyuk. He is now, and will be in the future, very much the guy out there. His value is a lot lower now then it will be in two years, he might be in the Norris conversation by then, and we will be paying BIG bucks for his services.

  9. Believe it or not, I think the Plekanec-Gionta-Bourque line will step it up, Bourque in particular. I think Plekanec will have to be relieved of some of his PK duties, they need goals from this line, and all three have something to prove this season. Bourque may be a dog, but I wouldn't want to deal with both the Bell Centre fans and Michel Therrien, he'll have a much better season. He has the skills, hopefully Therrien demanding toughness out of his players will bring his intensity back.

  10. Funny aside...I live in NH north of Boston, and I get NESN, I watch Bruins games occasionally, and Mark Mowers consistently predicted the worst outcomes out of the NESN staff when it came to games, point leaders, basically anything. He was worse than Jack Edwards even. JACK EDWARDS!!!

  11. I think trading Subban is preposterous. We would have to receive a franchise player in return, and that would never happen. I think with Larry "the prick" Carriere gone, we'll see a return to offensive form for him, hopefully JJ Dangieult takes things easy on him, and allows him to show some of his natural talents.

  12. Let me ask you this. Who would you rather go to war with? A mercenary or the squadron cook who despite his limited trench crawling ability will put his life on the line for u? The cook will garner more respect from his teammates and his opponents than any one dimensional mercenary. Day in day out. I'll take the cook any day of the week.

Obviously a mercenary. Would the Bruins trade Sean Thornton for a Kostopoulos? Would Pittsburgh trade Steve McIntyre? Who really cares about "third line abilities?" We have a full team full of third liners. We need a fighter who can play 60 games a year, no compromises, Staubitz stays out of the way, he doesn't take stupid penalties and isn't a defensive liability. Seems like a lot of you guys were in love with Tommy Pyatt, hey, I got news for ya, he only had one goal too. I was only 6 or so, but doesn't anyone miss the Chris Nilan days? How about Donald Brashear? There's no coincidence that fans talk about their goon just as enthusiastically as a first line center. These guys kick ass!
