  1. Whatever we make of the trade, we shouldn't deny that Cammalleri has it in him to be an elite scoring winger in the NHL. Something's gone wrong for him this season, but I don't think it changes that basic fact. Bourque, meanwhile, is at best an adequate second-line winger; in effect we traded Cammy for an older version of Kostitsyn. There almost certainly will come a time when Cammy is producing like an all-star for an extended period of time. Anyone defending that trade had better focus on the cap space gained and the 2nd round pick.

Does anyone remember a top 6 forward, who gets some pp time, ever having less than 10 assists in a full season. Bourque has 5 so far
  2. Campoli and Weber have been brutal. Kaberle has filled his role. Personally I believe Diaz is showing excellent potential as this is his first season in North America, normally it takes a player longer to adapt then he has taken. I look forward to seeing him next season.

I never look forward to players that give up the puck to avoid hits. Diaz wouldn't be as bad if he was surrounded by a big defense. Not getting into the Kab debate. Liked by 50% on here,a joke to the other 99% of the hockey world

  3. He really screwed up with his defense this season. Letting Sopel, Mara, Hammer, and Wiz all walk was pretty crazy. Not replacing any of the four until training camp was even crazier. I realize Sopel and Mara were brought in to replace Spacek and Gorges injuries, but this blown season comes down to defense. Losing Martin was just the icing on the cake.

Campoli,Kaberle,Diaz and Weber is as bad a combo as it could ever get. #1 reason for us sucking. No doubt about it. You should never have more than one of those type of guys in your 6/7 man rotation, never mind all 4

  4. I don't buy that Pleks is not a 1st line center. Anyone care to explain that to me?

It depends on what your definition of a 1st line ctr is. Pleks averages around 58 pts/yrs. And on pace for that again. That said,he may be the Habs best all around player.

  5. So does Moen have any value now because of his injury? There is no way we keep hi. Everyon was very unsatisfied with his first two years here, and then he turned it on in his contract year. He's 30,which is getting up there for a 3rd-4th line grinder. He can easily be replaced this summer by a cheaper and younger UFA.

  6. Ah.

I don't know if this is bad news or good. It's bad in that Molson is not competent to make hockey decisions. It's good in that it means Gauthier is dead meat.

Sometimes hands on owners can be a good thing. Look at the Patriots,Yankees and Mavericks in their respective sports.Sometimes.

This may offend PGs fanboys(I also saw that term on another board). but there are many fans that could do a better job with building a roster and contracts than him. Or Gainey for that matter.

  7. Yes, but it is coming from many reporters. Some are not complaining about it, they are suggesting that it is not a good thing. it is coming from reporters outside of Montreal. My point is that it is fact, not speculation or exaggerated.

Reporters aside, I as a FAN do not like this secrecy. I don't think it is good for the team. I think it causes negative speculation due to the vacuum of information.

I don't think it is the only reason to fire PG, its just one of many. :)

Since last year, Chiarelli and Neely are on weekly in Boston's local sports radio show ,for 10-20 min. That didn't hurt them last year, did it ?

Maybe writing more nonsense about the Habs is what he meant by "science fiction" writing.

    How was that article nonsense?

  8. Not really, no.

You don't think Eller,Gorges and our #1 pick could land us a star player? It wouldn't be as bad for us because we should have a bunch of 2nds coming in and the defense we have coming up. We don't have much for offense in the system, besides a few unproven smurfs(Gallagher,Kristo etc.)and nothing in Hamilton.

  9. Is it true that Pierre Boivin's son is head of Player personnel ? I read that somewhere today.

    President Molson

    Dir play pers Boivin

    GM Gauthier

    "Special Adv" Gainey

It's no wonder we're in last and if those above positions stay the same, then we haven't seen anything yet.

  10. He has five points in six games and is one of the best playoff producers in the NHL for the last two years. If Calgary doesn't make the playoffs he's worthless. If Calgary makes the playoffs he could be the key to them upsetting the Red Wings or Canucks.

Bottom line is that Cammi is a much more talented player than Bourque could ever hope to be. Where is the Bourque that I heard is big, tough, physical and uses his size? I'm seeing the one that all of Calgary talked about.A lazy floater who every once in a while shows flashes. Like I said,I would have rather kept Cammi for 2 years, than this slug for 4. Even though we won't make the playoffs this year, we have a chnace to make it the next two.

Even though we are or should be sellers, there is no reason we couldn't go after a Bobby Ryan or getzlaf(if we can extend him). Eller,Gorges and picks could do it.

  11. There is no denying that we are definitely in sell mode and in four days our lineup will look very different, with moen andrei k, darche, campoli, nokelainen, and weber all up for grabs. And I don't have any pipe dreams that we will make the playoffs, so let's sell and get a good return in this sellers market.(not even going to guess on returns but they seem high to me so far especially d men) and hopefully end up with a top 5 draft pick to and to our young talented core. But here is my idea to finish the season , fill our holes with young prospects and tough waiver players to make the games at least interesting. Not really sure exactly who to pick up but here is a quick line up.

    Cole des patches

    Bourque plek Gomez

    Geoffrion Eller Blunden

    White Leblanc rosehill

    Staubitz

    Georges subban

    Kaberle emelin

    Diaz

    Clitsome

Not sold on the waiver picks but could make the lineup tougher and give the prospects a chance to play. Plus im sure there will be more/better waiver players, and injuries so more youth will crack the line up?

And I know it's probably more complicated than this but

    What do you guys think?

Anything to boost the entertainment or effort these deadbeats have been putting forth

  12. Andrei, Sergei and Mikhail are from Belarus. I'm all for avoiding Belarus.

Perezhogin made a good career decision.

Valentenko stayed in Russia. Probably a good career decision as well.

Emelin was a top blueliner in Russia and wasn't going to come to Montreal if he had to play in Hamilton. I didn't like the demands I heard but after seeing the way he plays, I can completely understand them.

Skill is skill. People always complain about "headcases" and "egotistical" players until they score goals and win games. People were treating Kovalev like he was Lafleur just because he scored 30 goals.

Radulov would probably push a healthy Gionta to the third line and be a top six point producer for the Canadiens. Especially if Roy is coaching him. Radulov isn't so much a headcase as he's a fierce competitor.

That all said,I would still rather get a draft choice

  13. We went 2-3-1 against the Bruins. Every loss was by a single goal. Very close. Our record against them last year was 4-2-0. Plus we probably played a better playoff series against Boston then any other team they faced, especially Philly who got swept.

Philly is leading the series versus us 2-1 but we have another game next month to even that series.

So? What is our experience with them?

Playoffs is where it's about. not a meaningless december game. THE LAST 4 YEARS WE HAVE BEEN K.O'D IN THE PLAYOFFS BY EITHER BOSTON OR PHILLY.That's our experience wth them.

  14. he wasn't the only minus player. The defense is full of #6 nad #7 defenseman. You know plus they can only score once every other game.

Collectively as a team they really atink. What's even worse is they don't even care or try anymore.

This team needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom.

Our defense has 4 players that are soft as butter.Diaz,Weber,Kaberle and Campoli. That's a very bad formula to win in the NHL. Especially after our experiences with Boston and Philly. Totally inept management

  15. TSN now talking that Nashville wants Kostitsyn.

So TSN is saying it's 50/50 for Andrei to goto Nashville (hopefully for the returning Radulov) while Eric Engels is saying Phoenix has been looking at him for quite some time. But there's zero interest in him.

I've read Radulov is a head case. After the experiences we've had with AK,SK, Grabs,Perezhogin,Valentenko, Emelin and even Kovy most of his tenure, coincidence or not,Montreal just doesn't seem to fit with the Russian area players. They seem fine every other place

  16. Zero interest is an over statement. I do think it is safe to say that he was no one's top choice, which are the ones who draw the best returns. What was stated in the media was that he was 4th or 5th on most GMs list. ie.. expect him to go late as the pool of top guys dries up. Expect the kind of return that warrants.

Some people on this site seem to think he is a top UFA that several teams will be bidding on. Not likely.

3-4 goals in the last 30ish games doesn't enhance anyones value.

  17. The previous two seasons made this team seem better then it was. In one season, we had a goalie stand on his head (and Gill lay on his side) to squeak out two improbable victories.

Last year, we caught the Bruins napping for a few games, but once they got going, we couldn't seal the deal. Even if we win that series, I doubt we win the next one.

Last year, we made the playoffs because we had one of the best PPs in the league. Even an average PP and we don't even make the playoffs last year. Tampa relied on their PP too, and see where that got them. Once the league decided the Bruins were the one, there wasn't a single penalty called in the deciding game. You better be able to win 5-5.

This year, we are not as bad as our record. We have a brutal PP, but it would be an average PP with Markov on it. We would be fighting for 8th if the injury situation was not so brutal this year.

That said, in all three years, our team was "average". Boston, Rangers, Detroit, Vancouver, Chicago, etc.. are not average. They are the top teams in the league. They don't need a miracle to win the cup.

Montreal has to keep progressing to raise the base of this team to a contender. Then a great goalie performance wins you the cup. Then a lack of PP means you win it 5-5. To get there, we need a few more key players. We need a top center. We need another elite winger. We need a PP guy, if that is Markov, then great. We need another year of seasoning for a few guys like Emelin and PK.

I truly believe this season is good for us. It shows us who we really are so we can start fixing it, instead of deluding ourselves that we were "an overtime win away from the cup". This season may also provide us with some of those top draft picks we almost never get. The last time we got a top 5 pick, we got Price. Maybe this year we get that top center. Maybe we just get a top Winger and trade for a top center. Either way, this team is not there yet.

I just thought that as soon as I laid eyes on Diaz, saw the Campoli signing, and that markov may not be ready, i knew this team was going to be at best,in their yearly battle for 8th,at worst 10th. I never dreamt we would be this bad.The heading of this thread is right on. What a disgrace!
