Mind if I borrow that crystal ball of yours? Since I'm but a poor university student, I wouldn't mind getting some money from illeagal betting firms... ;)

If only it was so easy... Its not a ball, its a gift I have. :D

Oh, OK. There is a Simpsons quote that would come in handy here if I could just remember the exact words... Homer says something like he's tired of getting rich quick schemes and he's glad 'cause now he's conjured up a new scheme to get rich - quick... Oh well.

I don't know how much I can explain. The problem is that you have to subsribe (is that the right word in this context?) to a digital cable channel to be able to watch the hockey games. And I cannot afford to do so. So I'm forced to settle for the sports news and reading the papers etc.

However, I read on Aftonbladet's website (one of the major evening papers in Sweden) that Kent Forsberg, coach of Modo and Peter's dad, said the Färjestad players were out to hurt Peter all night. I don't know anything about any Souray slashing Forsberg incidents... but who knows...?

According to Aftonbladet, Forsberg checked Nordström into the boards and Nordström retaliated by cross checking Forsberg from behind.

    BTW.

I cheer for Theo in the playoffs..

But somehow im beginning to hate Souray... He is whining about everything in the games ive seen him.

Its all Färjestad's fault. Why didnt Souray go to Finland or something.

Not just in the games, he's also whining in the paper. At least in his weekly article in the Gazette, he's whining about the refs, and saying that the playoff atmosphere in Karlstad is only 3/10 (with 10/10 being what its like in Montreal)

Doesnt he realize that alot of Swedes read his weekly article?

    Does he care?

I don't know why Ryder and Bouillon would leave Leksand at this point of the season...? They've played there all season so why would they go play somewhere else when they've come to the point where it is the most fun to play? I don't know the terms of their contracts, but it would make little sense for them to leave Leksand now.

Ahhh you and ch_nl are making me blush. lol

Just post some Elite league videos and I'll pick up more of the language that way. Its how I learnt most of the French I know, lol

Hehe, when I started this thread I never thought it would turn into a language thread.
  9. I know, I was just talking about the Elitserien (did I spell that right?) , not the Allsvenskan. I've tried to follow all the habs in Sweden (both the divisions I mentioned) the best that I could this year..

    .

Also... Couldnt the SuperAllsvenskan be considered playoffs? I mean, thats the best Leksand could hope for this season. Obviously they arent eligible for the Elitserien playoffs (this season), lol... They're at the higher level they can get for this season. At least until the qualifiers?

Thanks for all the information guys!

    No problemo. My pleasure. :/)

As for your spelling, you are correct sir. You seem to have a talent for Swedish. :-^ I you want to improve further and want lessons, just holler, aight? ;)

You are also correct about Superallsvenskan, it could very well be considered as a playoff, and indeed the best thing Leksand could hope for. What I meant is they are not competing for the championship title.

Mora has played horrible all year. But they're happy with it. It was their first season in the Elitserien and nobody did expect them to do better. Marcel Hossa was probably the one who saved them from the quialifier.

Are you thinking of Marian or Marcel?

In my opinion, Mora looked very shaky the first number of games, but aside from the start, they played really well during the first half of the season. After Christmas (and especially after Marian Hossa left the team in the end of January) they have plummeted through the standings. They have like 12 points in their last 17 games (and they won tonight so that means they had like 9 points in their previous last 16 games). I think Mora is one of the teams who have benefited the most from getting locked out NHL players. Otherwise I believe you could very well have switched places of Mora and Brynäs.

Oh, and about MoDo. I think what they have failed to do is get their act together as a team. They have tons of NHL players (possibly the team who has the most NHL'ers) but I think they have underachieved more than was expected.

[Edited on 2005/3/1 by Doktor Kosmos]

  11. Francis Bouillon and Mike Ryder play for Leksand, who play in a "lower ranked league". Leksand is one of the teams who will face Malmö and Brynäs in the qualifying round I mentioned. The two best teams from that round will play in the Elite League next season. So not all Habs are in the playoffs.

The team I'm rooting for is Timrå, and Frölunda is a close second. The main reasons why I like those teams is because they have the two players who I think are the best in the country this season: Henrik Zetterberg (Timrå) and Henrik Lundqvist (goalie Frölunda).

Frölunda have indeed dominated the regular season and they are by far the biggest favourites to win. Every team that makes the playoffs have a chance of course, but I think the standings gives a good image of which team stands the best chance. If you want to win the Swedish Championship, Frölunda is the team to beat. They are the best team in pretty much every category. Scored the most goals, allowed the fewest, had the best powerplay, Lundqvist had the best save % etc etc etc.

But they still have to play for it.

  12. Tonight the last games of the regular season was played, and here is the final standings.

    Notes.

If two have the same amount of points, the tie breaker is the goal difference (goals scored minus goals against), i.e. not like the NHL where wins is the tie breaker. If both teams have the same goal difference, the team who has scored the most goals will place higher in the standings.

A win is worth 3 points and a tie is worth 1 point. If a game is tied after 60 minutes a 5 minute sudden death overtime will be played. If a team scores a winning goal during the overtime, they will recieve 2 points and the losing team will recieve 1 point. If the game is still tied after the 5 minute overtime period, teams will recieve 1 point each and the game will end in a tie.

    Playoffs

There is a lottery to decide which teams will play each other. The 1st and 2n ranked team face either the 7th or the 8th placed teams. The 3rd and 4th placed teams play either the 5th or 6th placed teams. This is how the lottery turned out.

    Frölunda (1) vs. Luleå (7)

    Linköping (2) vs. Södertälje (8)

    Timrå (3) vs. Djurgården (6)

    Färjestad (4) vs. MoDo (5)

The quarterfinal are play in a best-of-seven format. I think teams take turns playing on home ice, so for the higher ranked team it's home-away-home-away-home-away-home, and vice versa for the lower ranked team. But it may be different. At any rate, I know the higher ranked team has home ice advantage in case of a 7th deciding game.

I believe the semifinals and final are also play in best-of-seven series.

For the 9th and 10th placed teams the season is over. The 11th and 12th placed teams have to play a qualifying round against 4 teams from lower divisions. The two best teams of that qualifying round will play in next year's Elite League.

I'm sure there's a ton of stuff I've forgotten, so feel free to ask.

  13. Don't get me wrong, Ekman is a good player of course. It's just that I tihnk any team can do without those blackouts he keeps on suffering from time to time.

Weird goal he scored today BTW. :o

Sweden won the Sweden Hockey Games after beating Finland 5-1 in the last game. Henrik Lundqvist was superb in goal (as always) and there were many Swedish forwards who played really well. The Zetterberg-Hedström-Kahnberg line was outstanding. I think Zetterberg is the best Swedish hockey player this season. Hedström deserves to play for Team Sweden during the World Championships later this season, and after his performance in this tournament, I wouldn't mind seeing Magnus Kahnberg on the team either. Others worth mentioning is of course captain Jörgen Jönsson, Mikael Samuelsson (a late addition to the team and a positive surprise), Mattias Weinhandl and Fredrik Modin.

I can't think of the defensemen as a group played a pretty good game. Thomas Rodin must be on the national team with all his experience. He can also shoot, which doesn't hurt. Daniel Tjärnqvist got off to a tough start and stunk up the place in the first period. I believe he missed the game against Russia yesterday because he attended a funeral. Maybe that affected him - hard to see how it could not affect him. But he worked his way into the game and played better and better throughout the course of the game. Dick Tärnström scored a shorthanded goal but also gave the puck away on the play that lead to the Finish goal. I don't care too much for Anders Eriksson, but he was alright. I like Magnus Johansson's offensive skills but he might not be tough enough in the defensive zone. Niclas Hävelid and Tomas Johansson had to play as forwards today becuase Marcus Nilsson and Andreas Johansson was injured. I've always liked Tomas Johansson. He didn't do a bad job as a forward but naturally he belongs on the defense.

Overall it was a very good game for Sweden and it feels awesome to sock it to those cursed Finns. For a change we came out on top and I think luck had nothing to do with it - we earned this win. Finland never really stood a chance.

    Add: Oh yeah, the score...

    Sweden-Finland 5-1

1-0 Dick Tärnström (Henrik Zetterberg SH)

    2-0 Nils Ekman

3-0 Henrik Zetterberg (Jonathan Hedström, Daniel Tjärnqvist PP)

    3-1 Marko Jantunen

4-1 Jonathan Hedström (Magnus Kahnberg, Henrik Zetterberg)

    5-1 Mattias Weinhandl (PP)

I was thinking. I believe it's safe to assume all of us are Montreal Canadiens fans when it comes to hockey. But which team do you root for when it comes to soccer? And which league do you think is most enjoyable to watch?

My favourite team is Tottenham Hotspur FC, and the league I prefer to watch is the Premier League.

  15. I dislike Ekman for a number of reasons. Most of all because he takes bad penelties and at times he's a calamity on the ice. Remember when he deliberately ran over Henrik Lundqvist during a Frölunda-Djurgården game a couple years ago? In my opinion the difference between him and a guy like Bertuzzi is that Ekman has yet to suffer a blackout that has resulted in any serious injuries for his victims. :wall:

Also, when my brother and I visited Montreal, Ekman played for Tampa Bay, and he scored his first NHL goal in the Habs-Lightning game we went to. :P

  16. I was more impressed with Perezhogin than Markov or Kovalev. Kovalev played well especially in the first period but faded towards the end of the game IMO. Perezhogin had couple of good chances. It was fun to see him play.

If you look at the whole game I think Sweden deserved the win. Aside from the first ten minutes it was a solid team effort. If you ask me, the best Swedish players were GK Henrik Lundqvist, Henrik Zetterberg and Jörgen Jönsson. I also like Fredrik Modin's style. He creates a lot of momentum for his team. Jonathan Hedström was a pleasant surprise. Most of the time I think he's too hot headed, but tonight he didn't cross the line. Instead he scored the GWG on a beautiful Gretzky-esque pass from Zetterberg. Mikael Samuelsson and Magnus Kahnberg scored the other goals for Sweden.

There's just one thing I cannot understand: Why the Hell is Nils Ekman playing for the national team?

I would only be able to list players from my own lifetime as I know too little about the early heroes. And I have a feeling on a list of all-time best, not many players from the era in question can be compared to the likes of Rocket, Beliveau, Harvey, Vezina etc..

Mats Näslund is my favourite player. Peter Popovic also has a special place in my Habs heart, since he played for my hometown team Västerås IK before he went to play in the NHL with the Canadiens. Carbonneau, Kirk Muller, Brian Bellows and Vincent Damphousse are a couple of other favourites, along with Roy (of course), Eric Desjardins, Mark Recchi and Andy Moog. Of the current Habs I like guys like Koivu (despite the fact his from Finland), Souray, Theo and Sundström (hey, I root for any Swede on the team - I also happen to think Sunny is an underrated two way player).

Add: I was born in 1976, but it wasn't until the mid 1980's that I heard of the NHL and the Montreal Canadiens. I do however think Robinson's jersey should be retired. No habs has worn the #19 jersey since he was traded anyway, right?

  18. There will always be a special place in my heart for Jim Campbell. He scored a goal in the only Habs game I've ever seen in person.
I feel the same way about Chad Kilger. He scored the first goal I ever saw live at the Centre de Molson when my brother and I visited Montreal back in January 2001.

We went to three games: vs. 'Canes, vs. The Lightning and vs. The Rangers.

  19. At Färjesstads website, you can find Souray's "Postcards from Sweden". Click this link:

    http://www.farjestadsbk.se/

On the right of your screen there's a sign saying "Lockout Special". CLick on that sign.

On the right of the screen you can find links to Souray's postcards.

Several Swedish media sources confirm that Gaborik is heading back home to Slovakia, now that his contract with Färjestad has expired.
