  1. Don't you guys think it would be interesting to know how well Mora would have done so far if the NHL players had not been locked out? And what if the NHL starts back up again and HossaX2+Pavlikovski goes back to North America?

Mora has been a positive surprise for me (and probably a lot of others too), and I think it's nice to see them doing so well... but I am not sure they would have done as well without their reinforcments.

  2. Great to meet fellow countrymen on a foreign messege board.

I am from Västerås, Thunderbutt, so I guess we are sort of competitors. Back in the days I rooted for Björklöven, before Västerås IK qualified for the Elite League. Matti Pauna and Göte Wälitalo (sp?) were my favourite players.

It is because of Mats Näslund that I am a Habs fan, and I've been so since the mid 1980's.

I too remember the "glory days" (;)) when you didn't have to pay an arm and a leg to see NHL games on Swedish TV. I still have the final game from the 1993 Stanley Cup finals on video tape. Good bless Kanal 5 Nordic (or whatever they were called back then).

Add: Since I am from Västerås, Peter Popovic is obviously one of my all-time favourite Canadiens. :/)

  3. Essentially he's right. I've been saying the same thing all along.

The short term effects are good, especially for the fans who enjoy watching all those NHL players back in Europe. But as for the long term effects... I believe Hirsch is right on the money. ;)

However, and this is a technicality I know, but since it is a LOCK-OUT... can you really call 'em scabs? 'Cause they're not actually on strike, are they? Technically speaking...

ADD: I posted the same article on another board...

  4. Even though I like the fact that it was Koivu who scored, I had rather seen the US advance to the final.

But why the heck did the US defence leave Koivu all alone like that? Sure, it was a nice play by Väänänen, but you shouldn't be allowed to stand on the doorstep all alone like that.

I hope the Czechs beats Canada.

One weakness that Finland has is their penelty kill. They pay too much attention to the puck and not the other teams' players. Modano's pass to Weight was even better than Väänanen's, but again, even if the Finns were shorthanded they shouldn't have let Weight walk in like that. Nobody saw him coming 'cause they were all staring at the puck.

I don't think Finland will win no matter who they will face in the final.

  5. It'll be an interesting game tomorrow, no doubt.

I think we almost have to win. The rematch down in Croatia will probably be the most difficult game for Sweden in the whole qualifying round. I think it'll be either Sweden or Croatia who wins the group.

  6. All I can say right now is two things:

    1) Hardy Nilsson, our coach, should turn in his resignation first thing tomorrow morning. He said in a post-game interview is isn't doing that, but he should.

    2) I hate Kim Johnsson. I flat out hate him.

On behalf of Swedish hockey players and fans everywhere, I appologies for the lousy performance of our National team. It's not the fact that we lost, it is the way we lost that hurts.

  7. Selanne will have a serious problem getting anything over 3 mil (max) because of his meltdown last season.
Getting him to sign in the 2-3 mil range is really not that hard
I'm not convinced. There will always be someone like the Rangers or the Blues to offer him what he's used to getting. Him having a bad season last year makes little difference in those regards, I'm sure.

EDIT: Besides, both Kovy and Selänne are right wingers. Who'd play left wing?
