I am sick and tired of all the berating of Gainey.
ENOUGH. Give him and the Habs a break.
We have a NEW NHL. A NEW game. Gainey and all the other GMs had to take educated guesses as to how the NEW game would be played.
He took his shot and missed. Give him credit for that. Fergie Jr. did nothing in Toronto. At least Gainey tried. You all wanted that.
He will regroup and rework the Habs into a very competitive team, now that he sees and knows what the NEW NHL is all about.
Be patient. You'll be happy you did.
Well put.
It is something most don't think about [the new NHL] but it has a huge impact on the game and team ranks.
Carolina [who is overacheiving in my books] was drafting at 3rd overall, and now they are the best team in the NHL?
That is huge!

my stab at it:
"Thedore absolutely needs the organization's confidence. He doesn't need to hear a vote of confidence from the fans or the journalists. He simply need the backing of the important people who surround him. I'm talking about Bob Gainey, his coach and GM, the associate coaches and the goalie coach. The organization needs to believe in you and you need to get better.
"Jose has too much talent not to recover. I love his playing style, he loves to outfox shooters, he has great technique and super fast legs. He'll get out of this and I wish him the best"
Thanks Simonus.
Ya think he really thinks that about his buddy Jose, or is he just trying to start the motivational/confidence building by himself?

Quite the quote.... but I can't speak french.
This one is good too
"It`s Ground Hog Day, the furry rodent came out of his hole, pulled his groin, scored three goals on Jose Theodore and went back to sleep." - Kevin Gibson

You know, I have to say, let's say he was who he says he is, Eklund calls agent, agent freaks, trade was leaked, everyone goes into denial. Trade was in place but never inked.....we may never know.
In all honesty that could be the case.
But Jose Thoedore could also get the shutout against the Bruins tonight.
ps. Huet is starting tonight

Did you know Tim Thomas was selected the best goalie in europe last season?
Big shock! Theo was in Europe last year. Thomas was a lock for that vote
-
seems beckett is calling this guy a schmuck now
We all know Eklund is a schmuck
Maybe the PC is for Saku signing a new deal. It would be like BG to get all our hopes up for a trade then do this.
BG will only make a deal when none of us see it coming. :hlogo:
-
Team 990 just said that this rumour is complete BS. It was Eklund who was actually on Team 990 stating that the rumour is BS.
The deal kinda sounds too good for the Av's if you ask me. But its all BS anyway so meh!
Why the press conference though?

If Montreal are going to get a high quality player it will because the other team can't afford to keep him.
The only thing that Montreal can offer today is picks, Zednik, Bonk and maybe one of Higgins, Plekanec, Kostitsyn and Perezhogin.
Agreed; but they had better not trade Kosty or Perez without giving them the same chance they are giving Higgins and Pleks first.
As for the season, we can still make the playoffs but I hear the top 10-15 draftees are pretty good too.
At this point trades are all but moot because we have nothing of value that we are willing to part with; I say let Theo work through this and give the rookies a chance to play regularly and see what happens after that.
It sounds good in theory, but the fans at the games in Montreal will not let that happen and Jose will be chased out of town ala Roy, Brisebois within the next few months [off season trade likely at Jose's request]
It's Sad really, to go from "future of the franchise" to future ex-habs.
Don't think for one second that Danis and Carey Price aren't taking notes on this.
-
Good news. Theo won't be traded. Why? Because Gainey confirmed NO TEAM is interested in him and has not receive a single offer for him.
Where was this said Tony?
I can't find anything on it anywhere.
-
Once the fans start on a player it is all over.
That might be the most defining truth I have read in this thread.
Ask Roy, without the fans backing you.....it is impossible to stay and improve [especially the harsh fans in Montreal]
-
u guys ever see Zednik's wife??? ten bucks says his wife is ######ing around playing mind games with him.
even BG said something like his head wasnt into hockey when he sat him out in T.o...
Women.. they'll screw u up BIGTIME!
Interesting notion.
Especially with a forum id like yours.

I dated my teacher for a few months ....does that count?
-
Not my turn but oh well.
This is kinda hard to believe but;
Who is the only player in NHL history to lead 3 different teams in scoring in 3 consecutive seasons?
-
I think the loser of this game will be facing some personnel changes.
Both teams need it anyway.
-
Yes, i noticed that in their wiki, but it states that it's only for the habs, and only for 2 years. In the 60's they still have it, and appearantly toronto too, so somehow, i think that's very incomplete
It isn't incomplete really its just that no one cared about it enough to change it at the time. Once the Habs were getting players like the Richards, Beliveau etc the rest of the teams all wanted a shot at them [no duh huh?]
It's kind of like income tax. It was initially started to "aide in rebuilding after the war" and it "will only last for one year".
Both are kinda sneeky though.

Andrew Cassels has been placed on waivers by the washington Capitals.
He could be a good pick up for us for a few reasons.
He might actually solve our 2nd line issues; He isn't big at 5'11" 190ish but his effort is there and he is more of a playmaker.
This would also free up Ribs to be traded for almost anything without losing any real scoring from the teamwhile only increasing the payroll by $300,000 or so. [Cassels makes $1.5M this season but more then half has been paid already]
Any thoughts?

also, Edmonton traded Tony Salmelainen to Chicago for Jaroslav Spacek.
thats all Edmonton had to give up to get a decent defenceman. I think Montreal should have made an attempt to get him, we could have given up Ribeiro or even Zednik. It would have helped even more now, since Souray could be out for little bit too. I mean the guy that Edmonton gave isn't even that good, probably be no more then a third liner in the NHL.
Ribeiro or Zednik for Spacek?
Did you hit your head today?
Spacek is worth a Garth Murray or Downey type player...that's it. He is not a top 4 Dman on any team {St.Louis notwithstanding} and Edmonton paid fair market value for such a player.
Thank god Gainey is in charge and not some half-cocked fans that would trade just for that sake of trading.

I'll stop looking for extra questions at about 6pm est today, so if you have been waiting for the last minute to ask one....this is it.
I'm glad the game is on Sportsnet at 7pm, both players should give their all.
-
I think Montreal's past selections and current depth chart all but dictate their next draft pick of the best available defenseman at the habs draft position.
-
Yep. We were talking about it earlier. Amazing!
Oops Sorry
Just saw it now. What a player!
-
Kinda off topic but did anyone see Ovechkins goal tonight?
Just amazing!
TSN has the pho vs wash game highlights

No worries CoRvInA
I did the same kinda thing with Corey Locke 2 years ago and my freinds were telling me to ask him certain things to satisfy their own curiosity, so I figured maybe some here would have some questions they wanted to know the answers to.
I'll ask anything you want to know [minus the hotdog and moon questions ] as long as it isn't redundant or that I don't run out of time.
Let 'em fly

I will be interviewing Sergei Kostitsyn this weekend and as luck would have it Matt D'Agostini agreed as well, so I thought I would ask if anyone had any questions they wanted to ask either of the two habs draft picks.
Naturally I will be asking the standard questions, but post any questions you want the answer to in this thread and I'll ask anything that isn't duplicated.

This is one of the oldest jokes associated with hockey. It used to be the leaf's former tender [i can't remember who now. Allan Bester maybe?] after giving up a terrible goal from long distance, 5 hole. "Bester was Trying to commit sucide by jumping in front of a bus. fortunately it went right through his legs."
I believe it actually started with the Red Sox Bill Buckner [sp?]. but it never ceases to amaze me how old things like this come back as new again.
