  1. Why is everything always so personal?

His post had "I'm not blaming... no blame... etc" like 30 times and yet now it is finger pointing.

I think his goal was to have everyone take an active interst in some of the new guys and lend a hand as opposed to leaving it to the mentor on his own. It benefits the entire league to be involved and help out.

  2. Well, there hasn't been any statements of value on Plekanec's future deal yet... because there hasn't been a single conversation between Plekanec's camp and Habs management about a new deal at all. There's just been Gainey on record as saying he'd like to re-sign him, but no actual work done to accomplish that goal. We haven't even heard if Plekanec is interested in signing with the Habs again or if he wants to test the market.

No salary or term has been discussed by either side.

    yeah ok

  3. Just curious, do most think Plek is a flash in the pan, and not worth keeping? I mean his stats + his PK abilities are near tops in the league, I know everyone bemoans losing someone for nothing.

If we trade Plek it has to be for a 1-2 center...we cannot give up our #1 unless we get a potential centre back, there's just no one in the system to replace him, and they will not have the cash to go get someone.

My opinion, is unless there's a dumb GM out there willing to trade a centre as good as Plek is for, the habs should try hard to sign him.

Just as an aside, we mention the other facets of Gomezs' game when we bring up his contract.

"He has good playmaking skill, good two way player" etc.

I worry that we are undervaluing Plek as a coping mechanism, resigning ourselves to the fact we're going to lose him.

I don't think it's a matter of people thinking he is a flash in the pan, but if he is going to demand top guy money, he had better be a top guy player for the duration of his contract. This is where the concern comes in from fans and media. He is having a great season so far, but he has yet to show any consistency in his career to date to warrant the money or term he is seeking.

If he is looking to sign long term he had better be prepared to tone down the value of the contract.

  4. I think there's a few reasons for the lack of dealing; the first is one you've mentioned and that's a lack of 'active activity' from many GM's. I know personally, very rarely do I make a deal that hasn't at least been discussed on YIM. It's so much easier having a direct conversation rather than PM'ing back and forth for a week, doing that means there's no flow to the talks.

Another reason is that some GM's are simply getting too picky - "I need a Click 8 4th line C (for the NHL), making under $675,000 and I'm only willing to pay a 4th round pick to get him or career AHL'ers." There's what, maybe 2 players that fit that criteria in the whole league and both are probably worth more, so no deal gets done. Couple that with half the league's desire to test lines ad nauseum thus leaving you hanging in the wind for who knows how long, and we're setting ourselves up for failure quite often. It's a fantasy game, you don't need to precisely know how things are going to work out before a deal gets done; I'm all for the element of surprise - it's more like real life that way. Heck, that's why I don't scout to the degree the rest of the league does - I scout enough not to kill myself with a brutal pick and that's about it. Let the cards play out as they may and adjust accordingly, that's my strategy and that's how it stays fun for me.

My next point pertains to the always popular, "I like your offer, but I need to shop him around to the rest of the league first," which is also known as, "I'm going to jerk your team around until I get a better offer." Personally, I consider it to be a complete lack of respect to that GM; I know this opinion isn't shared by several other GM's, but I also know I'm not the only one with that opinion. It's particularly irking when the player's been on the block for 6+ months already. I subscribe to the theory that if you get an offer that you like, take it without questions asked, no screwing around. Look at my deal with Pittsburgh - both players were on the block for a while, no need to hold things up. We both liked the deal, so we make it, no messing around. The more this happens, the less willing teams are to trade with you, as they know never to make the first offer since the other team will hold out for more almost every time. At least that's how I approach talks with certain teams. Change the approach, and teams may be more receptive to dealing with you.

This next one may sound surprising, but the fact that the AHL playoffs have no value in-game doesn't help the cause either. It essentially devalues what, at least 15 players on each farm team in the league (career AHL'ers). Make the playoffs worth something and all of a sudden, these players have some legitimate value and thus teams will deem them valuable to trade or acquire. This opens up a whole new avenue of trades; sure, most will be small, but activity is activity and trade talks are still trade talks, no matter how small the deal. It would also add an element of planning to the game if there's a legitimate reward at the end of the playoffs as now there's something worth trying to achieve. Maca's suggestion from a month or so I thought had some legitimate merit to it that I think could be quite beneficial to this league if implemented.

My final thought (for now, I may think of more) on this (so relax, the long winded essay is coming to an end) is something that can't really be rectified. Almost every team, myself included, has a plan of sorts to try and take them to the promised land. Unfortunately, few are willing to deviate from that plan, even at the small tinkering stage. There's no way to force teams to be open-minded about fiddling with their master plan, the only hope is that teams see the light and realize that only one plan can ever work (1 Cup winner), so be proactive and improve what you've got for both now and/or the future.

There's my 2 cents (though there may be a few more pennies worth in there)...

I have experienced every one of those situations and unfortunately I don't complete many deals because people want to wait, and wait, and wait, for a better deal that never comes.

90% of my trades I overpay for a player and yet it is still painstakingly slow, So now, I rarely bother.

  5. If...

Someone who put both legs behind his ears = gets Lecavalier going

    and...

Lecavalier got going after playing against the Sharks

    therefore...

The Sharks = Someone who put both legs behind his ears?????

    Ahhh...

See I didn't know it was the Sharks that got Vinny rolling along.

For shame Colin you..... you..... you whore you! ^_^

  6. While putting both your legs behind your ears is unnatural, it's not necessarily against the rules. And if that's what it takes to get Lecavalier going...

I'll have you know it IS against MY rules good sir! ^_^

  7. I hear he did something..... unnatural.

    dunno, I didn't open the sim :P

Edit: I opened the sim. ^_^

  8. I know I can run a team even at a small percentage of the rate in which I do now (actually this season I was very much distant for large parts of the season..

However.. I'm addicted to EHM in a much similar way to Stream, and totally understand the need to completely quit in attempt to ditch the addiction, you know? Because I know as long as I'm still in the league, it gives me one more thing to distract myself with from the work I need to actually get done, lol.

Gah, but then I'll just find a new distraction anyway.

    We'll see.

Oh shut it.... you are staying put.

You're addicted, suck it up and live with it. ^_^

  9. Maca in 6 in both series. Then in a dramatic turn of events he goes awol for 2 weeks, suddenly returns and resigns after visiting a 3rd world counrty and deciding to dedicate his life to saving....uhhh ... well, saving something (but not brain cells so don't worry).

Fast forward 6 months and the Rags (led by Maca) three-peat.

    True Story™

  10. Its not like we outplayed the oponents on this roadtrip...

It sure wasn't the habs being bombarded with shots. I think they actually outshot the opposition for half of the games.... and that's saying something for the Habs.

Is this game televised at all? (aside from RDS, damn cable company)

  11. Absolute crap. I won`t lie there are a few GMs in this league I don`t trust but not you Jets.

    + 3000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think this goes without saying but.... Don't buy into the bullshit of the league Jets.

I tend to agree with the gm that said "if you leave the league will die", because there are only a few of you keeping me here as well. If you go, that list drops by another stand up gm and I might as well go too.

Stay and think nothing more of it.
