Are there any intriguing players that didn't receive qualifying offers from other teams that the Habs might take a chance on?

No. But there are unintriguing players who will be signed.

  3. Ok. Firstly, yes the Habs have major work to do in the left defensive side. It's Empty. Obviously at least one right defendemen will shift. That's fairly common. But it's likely two that will play other side.

Secondly, Markov now can ask for more money then the market. Just out of desperate need to keep him and be a left sided dman.

Third, the team is missing a star Centre. But apart from that, I think there's a good balance of all four lines type of players. So the comment about fourth liners is out of line.

With that said, the Habs are short their 4th dman. That's a given when you trade for offence, which was needed, and losing your fourth to expansion, when you can only protect three. And trading another fringe 4th/5th dean or second pairing -- in an expansion year. Which is why I just didn't get trading  Beauliau for a third. I would rather have lost him and still had Emelin. Management felt otherwise. Which meant they were happy with the thought they could use Emelin's contract money to snag a FA better for the price. Or the same quality for less. I personally don't think so. It's a big gamble to me.

One or or two of the blue chip drafted prospects needs to step up. Sign Markov, snag a Benn ish type FA, and it's all good.

    Go Habs.

Agreed.  When this deal went down, I had apprehensions about losing sergechev after trading Subban last year.  In a time when everyone is going with fast puck moving dmen, we are probably going to have the most flat footed D in the league, with nothing in the cupboard.  Maybe MB sees the penguins win a cup with a bottom barrel D core and don't think d matters.  We have Weber, markov on his last legs and petry - which is better than what the pens had, but than we don't have Malkin and Crosby to drive the play.

I think with price, and an offence with drouin, galchenyuk, maxpac, Gallagher, radulov, a return to form from Gallagher and progression from lekhonan, we have a pretty decent offence - IF galchenyuk plays centre.

Some had pointed out that drouin can play centre and that gave me some hope that maybe galchenyuk and drouin can fill the top two centre roles.  However, after reading articles and hear ferraro, button and others say that drouin is a winger and would have the same issues at centre, and is lost in his own end, I can't see drouin playing centre - especially with julien as coach.  Drouin was also pretty much a winger in junior and the NHL, so I think it would be more of a stretch for him to be a centre than galchenyuk.

in my opinion this team needs two centres in the top 6 (and I think galchenyuk should be one of them).  If galchenyuk isn't one of them, we are screwed unless MB suddenly becomes Sam pollack and makes an unbelievable trade like galchenyuk, Beaulieu, emelin and a first for McKinnon and duschane and gets vegas to pick up pleks.

You think a 20/21 year old is fully developed?

  5. You know, sometimes it just depends on the gap between deserved 4 th line and benchwarmers and plug, or fit on another line perhaps. I have zero problem with past strategy. And current rotation. I'd prefer players make themselves indispensable quite frankly.

  6. I'm a Bournival fan. He's healthy and playing good hockey. He is a sleeper to many fans. I think people forget he is just 22, going on 23 I guess.

A bonus goal by de la Rose! Cool.

Good for MT. He does that often.

I think Pateryn has looked better than tinordi so far. He's right defense, so will probably go down first.

Why? Seriously, just asking cuz I want to know.

  7. Quit your day job and get into coaching dude.

Like most, I don't want Tinordi fighting so often. Of course, I am concerned about his long-term career--not to mention his life after hockey, but there is an even more pragmatic reason. if we constantly have a d-man spending considerable chunks of a period sitting in the box, then the others play far too much. Markov's, and PK'S, minutes have been far too high recently and we need them to rest up a bit for the playoff grind. Also, I want Tinordi and Patyrn on the ice as much as possible to see if they can show the level of progression, or anything near to it, that Beaulieu has. When he comes back, I would like to see "Gonch" mentor one of the other young d

Weaver is around to mentor. We are good there.

  8. MB does have patience. He is sticking by that. With his record this far its hard to disagree, however on Tinordi I do. I think JT should have been our number 6 dman all season. In my humble opinion.

Agreed. But unfortunately his play earlier was inconsistent and kind of a shambles at times. Even in the AHL. He's just really seemed to round into shape the last month. Hopefully he just gets better and better now, and he puts a lock on it finally.

  9. It has been said many times but why would Emelin waive his NTC to go to Edmonton? I also don't see Edmonton (or anyone) having interest in Tokarski right now.

As for Sekera, the asking price right now is a 1st rounder + a prospect. While I expect the price to come down, it's going to be higher than a late 3rd and a 24 year old d-man on the fringes.

I didn't know Emelin wrangled a no trade clause. That's insane. Wow.

I think Tokarski should have a number of suitors. Including Edmonton.

Sekera, ok. Then a third round and Pateryn. Pateryn is still considered a player on the rise and young, no? But that my max for a rental. If he re-signs, there's a conditional bump for second rounder instead of a third.

  10. What about shifting dynamics quote a bit:

Trade 1 - Eberle acquired for Emelin and Tokarski. Condon moves up to the big club and Tinordi becomes the hitter as a third d pairing with Gilbert or Gonchar. Beaulieu has clearly developed this past month and is a fast becoming a bonfide 2 nd pairing. I think the team has been happy with Tinordi as of late.

Trade 2 - Sekera joins the fold, for Pateryn and a 3rd rounder. Fits the salary structure and can play in all situations as required. Shores up the D again. Not a major cost for a rental. But he's good, so it's gonna cost.

  11. no to bouillon please.... he will be released and be an ambassador to the team or maybe replace brisebois, maybe a locker room presence, but no roster spot!!!!!!!!!

    markov pk subban

    emelin gilbert

    tinordi weaver

    beaulieau pateryn

    dietz

    is my depth chart

His two assists recently might argue against your point. He still has value. I don't think he was signed to be an ambassador and cut. I do believe he could be around to be an on ice coach for the young guys in Hamilton however, if he isn't carried with the big club and "injured".

  12. There is no rule that says your best centre has to play with your best wingers.

Lets imagine this scenario.... Patch - DD - Parenteau have a great season AND Galchenyuk develops into a legit #1 centre.

Why not keep the PDP line together and find another winger for Galchenyuk to create a second scoring line.

With PDP only costing 12.5 million against the cap, they are paid like a second line. If they give us first line production, great for us....

Gallagher has some chemistry with Galchenyuk, so those two can play together and then you just have to find them a left wing... perhaps another trade deadline move.

Plekanec then anchors a two-way line that plays against the other team's best.

With the fact we were such a low scoring team last year, that would be ideal.

Of course the problem is still that we have four centres, but I've been saying eller should move to LW for a while now.

Eller - Galchenyuk - Gallagher could be tried until that deadline move is made.

Bourque - Plekanec - Sekac would be the two way line (and hey remember Plekanec had a good defensive line with Cammalleri and AKost). If necessary you can probably move eller to this line if it needs help defensively at some point.

The thing is that Bourque probably needs to go at some point to make contract room for Galchenyuk's new winger before the 2015-16 season

Good post. I could live with all that. But I do expect some sort of trade deadline deals of risk and significance this year. Like last year. And Moen and Bourque could figure into that equation. perhaps Bourque gives us his worth this year. That would be fantastic. Pleks can help him play consistent hockey, as he shows up every shift. That would be good. Sekac along side would be nice. But so would Prust, quite possibly the best two way winger on the team. If we want them to be a shut down type line, I'd like Lars and Prust on the wing with Pleks at Centre. Chucky with Galls and Bourque could look nice with sheltered minutes. I think this line will need sheltered mintues this year. I don't think the line of Patches-DD-Parenteau needs sheltered minutes. All are now undervalued defensively imo. Patches gets penalty kill minutes now, DD is already a good two player and Parenteau is underestimated imo.

In short, its about Sekac versus Bourque imo. Lars to the wing is a must if we keep Chucky at centre, which I suspect is going to happen. And Malholtra is the 4th line Centre now. I don't see that changing. I just can't help but see Lars as a winger. He can bang very nicely now and he is strong skating along the boards, and his passing and vision are not adequate enuf to be anything else other than 3rd line at best at Centre. If it's about maximizing potential. Lars needs to be a winger and Chucky a Centre.
