  1. and life goes on...

and blu-ray will be displaced by... in a very short while...

I still play video tapes in class... what the heck... the kids enjoy the movies... not the format...

when I get my 144" flat screen TV, it'll soon be outdated too...

is an answer to this orwellian distopia to be a modern luddite?

    hmmm... pros & cons...

likely best perspective is a moderate pauline contentedness...

  2. I was at the Rangers / Sudbury Wolves game tonight and Weber disappeared from the play part way into the second period.

I didn't see what happened but one of my friends said that he took a hit (off of a shot, I think) and that was that. Never saw him again for the rest of the game. :( :( :(

(By the way, I saw him take a shot from the blue line on a power play in the beginning of the second period. I saw his stick go back for a slap shot and then, in the blink of an eye, I heard the boom on the end boards... never saw the puck at all.)

Back on topic, I don't know but I imagine he's injured though I hope not too badly. :puke: :puke:

  3. :hlogo: Okay, we are rolling along pretty good again, but after seeing the Bruins game can we last thru a seven game series with teams that are going to manhandle us. I think we would come out on top of a best of seven with Boston but we would be so beat up how much farther could we go. We need to add some toughness and a winger to play with Koivu & Higgins. Also it's about time Bob tried to redeem himself for his Mike Ribiero For Janna Niinamaa trade. Two trades I would like to see is with Chicago & the Rangers. First to Chicago Ryder, Halak & O,Byrne throw in either Milroy or Locke if need be in exchange for T. Ruutu, D. Byfuglien and P. Lalime. Ruutu gives us a winger to play with Higgins & Koivu, Byfuglien gives us some toughness on D and a bombing shot for the PP. Lalime gives us an experienced back up for Price next year. Second trade : Streit & Kostopolous to N.Y.R for Ryan Hollweg, F. Lessard & P. Parenteau. Hollweg gives us an everyday fourth liner with speed and grit, Lessard gives us an enforcer to play when needed (Boston) & Parenteau gives us depth in Hamilton and takes the place of either Milroy or Locke. We end up saving a million and having a line up that looks like this.

    Goal: Huet, Lalime

    D: Markov/Komisarek, Hamarlik/Byfuglien, Bouillon/Gorges (7'th man Briseboise)

Forwards: Kostitsyn/Plecanek/Kovalev, Higgins/Koivu/Ruutu, Latendresse/Smolinski/Kostitsyn, Hollweg/Lapierre/Dandenault (Lessard & Begin) Dress Lessard instead of Dandenault for games where we need him and let Begin get healthy for the playoffs

These are just a couple of trades I would make if I were Bob, They might not be possible to make, but who agrees we need a winger for Koivu, & Higgins & some toughness.

Nope! No trades of that foolish kind!

  4. Get rid of BOUILLON. He's gottaaaaaaaa goooooooooooooo. Ryder is just slumping, but the Cube is just a 7th d-man at best.

Was he not the main reason for the winning goal today?

Rented like a 'mule' one-on-one, then screened Huet on Neil's shot.

    Send him packing!!!!!

This is a prime example of the main reason why, after a few years of enjoying the fellowship of this gang, I'm reluctant to 'watch' a game with a number of people on this site: Idiot comments, bitching, bitching, bitching, bitching, name calling, crap throwing, endless negativism...

I wish people like you would find some other mud patch to wallow in... it would make the rest of us who truly enjoy the game, appreciate the team's efforts in situations like this game and understand the humanity involved with the players...

I'll say it again.... idiot comment...

  5. Let's assume that what was said in the article is correct.

I have to agree with Gainey who refused to guarantee a first-line position. Brière should have been expected to fight for the position like anybody else in the team. To guarantee Brière something would simply have opened a can of worms in that he would have set a precedent for similar promises to other players.

If that was the turning point in the whole thing then Brière wasn't that really committed to coming to Montreal.

    GO :hlogo: GO!

  6. This may be old news but I just read this on radio-canada.ca/sports/.

Essentially, it says that Brière wanted to play with his friends Denis Gauthier, Simon Gagné & Martin Biron while having a shot a Stanley Cup instead of just coming to be a local hero-superstar (also implying having no shot at the cup).

I've got two comments for that... 1) whatever... & 2) knowing the bipolar nature of Canadiens fans, one day you're a hero, the next you're a zero... who needs that?

For those who read French here's the page:

  7. Building from within The way to success is is including the prospects year after year so there is always room for others the year after,

i don't think they can miss a year without graduating a t least two for the next 4 years.

8 from our top 20 will make it, i would put my cat on fire if they don't.

    can I watch????

  8. Red Fisher grades the Habs offseason activity. Seems pretty generous with his grade, considering his remarks and considering the results. Probably should have been a D.

I was going to comment on Fisher's article but, with your opening assesment ('D') put a damper on that... so I won't bother... (nothing like unabashed negativity to sour a situation...)

  9. For what it's worth, Gaston Therrien on rds.ca believes that the Canadiens are a superior team for the signings... maybe not massively superior but a better team nevertheless...

"Dans l'ensemble, les deux acquisitions de lundi sont plus positives que négatives. Pour le moment, on peut dire que le Canadien est supérieur à ce qu'il était hier." (On the whole, the two acquisitions on Monday are more positive than negative. For now, we can ssay that the Canadiens are superior to what they were yesterday.)

  10. I am in such a foul mood.

    Hey guys...

I wouldn't be so upset... in you get to sign a free agent, you have to go according to the market. The player's manager isn't an idiot. He won't let his player sign for less money if he sees that others will get a certain range of a contract. On top of that, Hamrlik in particular is a good investment. He seems to be a solidly healthy player who's a great top four defenseman. Souray had to be replaced and he's certainly in Souray's category. Maybe not offensively but, if one takes Souray's -28 from his 64 points, you end up with a 36 point effectiveness. That's two points less than Hamrlik's 38 points. Again, if you add Hamrlik's + 22, that equals a 60 point effectiveness. I know that it doesn't necessarily work that way but on can see a much more positive presence on the ice by Hamrlik than there was with Souray.

As to the Smolinski signing, I'm not nuts about it but Gainey knows more about what's going on than I do for one thing. Also, the price and length are are not too overbearing. He may be a replacement for Bonk but better yet, he gives the Canadiens the opportunity to have an experienced center and gives them also more time to develop their kids in Hamilton. I don't imagine that Chipchura, Grabovski and Locke are ready yet to make the bigs... especially the former two. It gives them time to continue growing and getting ready for the big team.

On the whole, for me, these are good signings. I wasn't happy with Samsonov though I was willing to give him a chance and hoped the best for him. These two are. at worst, good signings.

  11. hard to tell. looks like this crop will take longer to harvest, I think thats why they stuck with highschool players .

    I agree...

so far as i understand, a team is able to keep US college players on their prospects lis for a longer time than with chl & european players where, again as far as i understand, they only have them for two years and then must sign them (note Juraj Mikus)...

in a way, it's a safer strategy for long-term oversight of the development of players...
