  1. I doubt Theo will settle for less than 5 million. That could be why Gainey is hesitant to sign him. If Gainey is planning a trade like many fans have deduced, he will want extra cap space. He might be trying to bring Theo down to 4.5-5 million dollar range. Theo isn't the most generous player so that is most likely the reason: a normal contract dispute.

The Ryder and Markov (I haven't heard a word on this one) are bothering me more.

  2. All I'm able to find on this guy is that he spent last season with Bratislava Slovan Harvard and recorded 4 assists in 33 games.

The best season he ever had was 7 goals in 51 games and that was with the Rimouski Océanic. It doesn't seem like he's ever had much potential. He was also an expert at accumulating penalty minutes. A bad habit for a defenseman.

Montreal is paying him 1.7 mil to be versatile. Someone who can play both defense and forward is valuable.

    BULLS EYE!!!

And that brings us back to the point of the thread: Versatility. Bonk is considered overpaid but he can play center or winger which greatly helps. Since the Habs have so many prospects and extra players. Gainey might be trying to make it easier to trade. If he makes a trade with this roster, he can shuffle around the players and still have everyone in a position they can play. Last year's team would have needed awkward lines.

In the conference or in Canada? Or in the NHL? And don't forget they still might have to ship away a top 3 defenseman. The Redden rumours haven't died yet.

  5. Hand them the cup!!?:?-

This move, if not stagnation is REGRESSION! There's no way this has improved the Sens. If you take a good look at their line-up you'll see they're not so hot as people think. Remember they lost Bondra and they have 1 good scoring line and 1/3 of a second.

Don't forget they don't have proven goaltending. Well re-proven goaltending.

Vancouver and Calgary are the top 2 Canadian teams. Ottawa seems not far ahead of Montreal and Toronto barely behind Montreal. Edmonton is a good deal behind.

Edit: And it's true. Ottawa did just lose Todd Simpson. They still have the big 3 though.

Are you sure it's de Vries? Apparently it's Phillips. Either way Atlanta wins, and it's a good move for Ottawa as long as they don't lose any of their top 3 d-men because they're in cap trouble..

I believe RDS was the one reporting de Vries.

de Vries is still good for Atlanta. Stanley Cup experience and an average defenseman.

  7. If tough to see this happen. Ottawa is a team that drafts well and builds up their team like the Habs. But in the end they get screwed over salary problems. I don't like Ottawa but they've doing a good job and now they have to trade a guy who's been the core of the team for so long. The bright side is that Heatley is young and will grow with them.

But the Sens needed grit badly. A gritty North-American center after losing Bonk. This team is all European and soft. Maybe that's why Don Cherry doesn't seem to like them much (that and they're Leaf rivals). Someone like Primeau would have made the Sens contenders but if Phillips is the defenseman, the Sens just took a big step backward and fall into the evergrowing category of "Play-off Race".

Also, Heatly will eventually ask for almost as much as Hossa so the trade might be a waste. But Hossa really was a problem on the Muckler's hands. He's going for Iginla money. He's signed for 7 million dollars in 2007. I wonder what Atlanta will do with him...

  8. Don't you dare hope for that rumour to be true.

About the goon trade. We still have Bégin who is better than any goon. We signed Vandermeer, Ivanans and Aitken (not a goon but a big D, call-up). I don't see why Gainey would let Langdon go if he needed him.

It seems the Habs have a new goon every season. Let's stick with Bégin as our half-goon.

As for the trade. I hope he trades some of our prospects like Hossa and Plekanec and or/ a D-man like Cube or Hainsey. We have so many players like them that we constantly see fighting for the team and may or may not ever make it. I'm actually kind of annoyed when I see all those names. I don't know why. But we'd need a REAL defenseman in return. Play-off experience and tough. One that can also find the back of the net.

    Aucoin, Rafalski, Hamrlik. You know.

But I think trades will be sporadic with Gainey. But I trust him. He's probably the best GM in the NHL. Or one of them.

If it is Phillips, then Ottawa got murdered and Atlanta will really push the play-offs this year. All they needed was defense and a bit more playoff experience and they get both here.

  10. And just today someone said there wouldn't be any big trades anymore!

    Hmm... The defenseman?

Not Chara, Redden or Phillips because then Ottawa gets the ripping of a lifetime. Then there's Brian Pothier, Greg de Vries, Anton Volchenkov and Christoph Schubert. It won't make a big difference but Atlanta does badly need D. I'm surprised they didn't go for Redden and a forward instead...:?-

By the way, Hossa is getting 5 million this year, 6 next year and 7 the year after that. And Sens fans were cheering on this deal. Muckler is crazy. But the Thrashers will have to deal with that contract now.

  11. Neither team site says anything about it though. I guess they'll only post it up after the press conference.

But for sure it was a 1-on-1 deal, Hossa for Heatley?

Edit: Ah, and a defenseman. Maybe Atlanta will get the better end of this.

Also the Atlanta press conference is at 5:30pm not 5.

By the way, when I was thinking about that..it's really hard to predict the standings this year. I mean where do you put Pittsburgh? Will Colorado make the playoffs? Will Nashville win the Cup? (alright, kidding there) But Wow, it'll be a crazy year.

So you can't blame me for not choosing the worst teams possible. To me the worst teams I can see are Minnesota and Edmonton. Every other team has good players now and might have a shot at the playoffs.

  13. Ya the first video was nice but I couldn't understand the Czech commentator and I didn't know which team was which so it was a little hard to see who Bulis was. Luckily he was wearing his usual 38 and you told me he scored the 3-1 and 4-2 goals.

Also, if Bulis can add as much ofense as he did in Czech Rep than he'll be better than Heatley.... IMO, of course.

ANd I'm always ready to watch Bulis.
