Something tells me that wouldn't be a fun conversation to have with a bunch of players from every team.

I am sure that a GM has more tact  and common sense than that. Something like, we did not want to leave you unprotected but it is a numbers game. We really took a huge risk and thankfully it worked out. Now get out of my office and get back to practice.:D

Just to bring up the other side, what about the players?  They wouldn't want it to be known that they were deemed expendable for free by the teams.  A GM certainly wouldn't want it out there either - that has the potential to be damaging in future contract negotiations moving forward.  From the standpoint of the fans, it'd be great to have them posted a couple of days before the draft - it'd make for great discussions.  But it's obvious why the teams or the league for that matter would like to keep the lists private.

It is just as likely that they leave him unprotected knowing full well he won't be picked. Each team only loses 1 guy.

LOL ...Don i remember that like it was yesterday...i was at a get-together and, by his reaction, everyone thought he had shattered his hand...it was just a bruised glove.  He was embarrassed though and played his best for us after that, at least for a while.  I do not like the Kessels (floaters) of this world but for AK i make an exception...

I always wanted the opponent to piss him off, cause it seemed like when he was mad, look the hell out. He played his best. Unfortunately they avoided that.

To anybody dumping on the moves that Bergevin made at the deadline: this game is an example of how important the bottom lines are. It takes a whole team to win a game and especially a series.

ok I am 1 guy who wasn't impressed with Mark down Mark's bargain bin pick ups, but I gotta say he looks like a genius right now. Of course it is only one game but man what a game.

I don't know how off topic I am but here it goes...

    1) Go Habs GO!!!

    2) kinda sick of some of the media talk about not getting a top 6 frwd... If space gets opened up on the ice for our top6 by the new guys; I'm all for it and is just as good under the circumstance imho.

    3) GO HABS! GO!

thanks for letting me rant people :)

Rants work, do it all the time myself.

That's fair enough I guess Habs Rule, you make some good points, your opinion though, and your expectations, same as I have, doesn't mean either one of us is right.

But in the end,  isn't it really all relative? Seguin hasn't got the Dallas Stars anywhere, Kane and O'Reilly have not got Buffalo anywhere, Kessel joined a stacked team at C, and the Kings aren't in the playoffs just now, but if they make it, they may scare the top teams.

All I'm saying is, although maybe not top contenders, Habs are still contenders, and I am happy enough in this new NHL era, there are much worse teams and GM's in the league, and MTL isn't the only team with holes, but we roll 4 lines...

All I want is a stanley cup and I don't think we are going to get it by switching 3 and 4th liners.

You really don't think the team has improved in any discernible way, really though? I'm not saying everything is rosie, but c'mon man...

A lot of great teams 3-4 years ago, like Anaheim, St.Louis, Boston, Tampa, even Colorado, Detroit and not so long ago Vancouver were all feared teams, now look at them.

I think Bergevin is holding his own, he has stuck to what he said he would do in the first place, improve the club, without compromising the future, to build a perpetual contender.

If this team is not a contender, with Price, Weber, Markov, Chucky, Patch, Radu, and Claude Julien as coach, then neither is Washington really...look at how they collapse year in year out in the playoffs, their scoring dries up, and their coach hasn't lifted a cup either... Everything is relative.

No I think MB inherited a pretty good team that was badly managed (ghost). Other than Rads all we have done is switch 3rd and 4th liners. Take a look at the list you made these are Bob Gainey adds. This is still primarily  the team he got from Big Bob. Ok he drafted Galchenyuk but that was kind of a no brainer. I have always supported MB and am not on the fire MB bandwagon, but the constant year after year excuses about there being no talent available, does start to look a little hollow when the Seguins, Kane, etc are moving around the league. How is it some other GM's, example Ken Holland found guys for over 20 years. 25 years in the playoffs, pretty impressive, how many rebuilds have we gone through in that time? I understand build through the draft but that has not been working so good for us. Our prospect pool is not that big, and I don't see too many sure fire NHL 1st liners down there
