For all the talk about egos (Subban, Radulov etc.) I've actually always felt that the biggest egos might be Bergevin and the now gone Therrien. The "CHaracter" mantra almost goes so far it has this holier than thou feel. As if they believe certain players aren't good enough people to play for them.

Thats just a vibe, not saying it's definitely true.

Throwback to the old days when it was an honour to be invited to a camp.  Should let him know have more than 6 teams. They are not so concerned about CHaracter.

The rest of the changes beyond Bouillon getting an actual title (he basically has been working for them for a year already):

    - Rob Ramage: Director of Player Development (previously Player Development Coach)

    - Martin Lapointe: Director of Player Personnel (previously Director of Player Development)

    - Vincent Riendeau: Director of Goalie Development, pro scout (previously Assistant GM with St. John's)

    - Trevor Timmins: Now an Assistant GM, loses the Director of Player Personnel title

Amazing. Maybe Markdown thinks this is baseball where you  can screw up 75% of the time and still be considered pretty good.

I wanted a long term deal for the kid, but just glad he is under contract...now just one more big deal to focus on.

Yeah I wanted 5 years but 4.9 is a good number. If he wants more PUT YOUR WORK BOOTS ON.

Word right now is that the offer Radulov took from Dallas was on the table before free agency and because Radulov wanted to test the market, Bergevin pulled it and replaced it with the four year. When all Radulov could get was the offer Dallas made, he accepted it. Montreal then tried to offer their original offer, but he already accepted the Dallas deal. Had Bergevin left the five years and never tried to hard ball him, Radulov would have re-signed in Montreal.

Why do I still love this team. Ugh.

that is a good story, any source?

They should have been trying to sign him during the season and should have been priority #1 once the season ended.

ibsaid trade his rights if he can't be signed - that should be self evident that his rights would get traded after the season ended, but before the negotiation period began.

as markown said if  you heard what he wanted in January you would fall off your chair. Were we going to trade hm then? Can't see it.

This is what I read and the reason for my interpretation:

But if two current UFAs who previously called Montreal home want to return to the fold in 2017-18, they'll need to make some concessions, according to the Habs' boss.

Given the current salary cap situation, Bergevin stressed that he isn't able to keep both Russian stars in the lineup together on their terms.

How I read that is he can pay them what he has offered but not what they are asking. They must come down from their asking price or it is no go. If they accept his offer then he can sign both.

My interpretation is that the original offers are of the table - Montreal can't do both now, unless they lower their asks.  I can see them lowering their term, but they both will probably be able to get the dollars they want for lower term.

doesn't sound like the offers are off the table

No, you're absolutely right. Heck, the Drouin contract could turn into a masterstroke if he becomes the player a lot of people pegged him to become. But this is the problem with having no talent pipeline: you have to overpay for what should be coming up cheap through the system. Cap management requires a thriving drafting/development system. The Habs are a joke in this area, and that is why we have all these bad contracts for 2nd- and 3rd-tier players.

Shaw and Pleks have to go.

Who else had a franchise player to sign an extension while landing one of the more coveted blueliners in free agency?  Of course they had to commit more term and dollars than other teams; Price wasn't signing a one or two year extension here...  You can't realistically compare giving a franchise player eight years to some mid-30's veterans getting one year deals as whoever wrote that bit is doing.

I agree Brian, alzner was going to get paid by someone. Did we pay 1 million too much? probably a l little too long term yeah, but we need defencemen, he was the best we could get,now if we can get Rads and Markov done, we won't look too bad. Signing  Carey had to  be done, best player in the world and a world class leader in the room. No brainer, even mark down figured that out.

Idiotic game plan, innit? Give up the organization's premier prospect that fills a great need to get what you can get for free.

I was just wondering if Markie played with a helmet, I mean it would explain a lot.

    That's my thought as well.

The only way I can see it work is if they throw a one year bonus-laden deal at Markov (say a $2.5 M base and another $2.5M in reasonable incentives).  The problem with that is the bonus overage it would create for 2018-19 which will make it even harder to work Price's new deal in.

dump shaw and pleks is the answer. We could use  some sticks and pucks....... Dont have to be new. How about 10 sticks and 12 pucks for each of them?

Indeed. Just because he wants to play here doesn't mean he's doing charity work. Now maybe if he give him two years, we can drop the cap hit somewhat, but $4.5 sounds pretty low for a guy who is a #2 defenceman on the depth chart.

i was responding to mineral post. I would sign him and so would everyone else. not likely to happen but it is a great dream.
