  1. Come on this dose not make Tocchet a monster by any stretch. People gamble. Who cares? In some places its legal in others its not. Although he was possibly part of this ring and it was illegal IMO it is no big deal. If he lived in Canada he could bet on sports legally.

In theory I agree. He's not hurting me or anyone I know so who cares. However they are saying he financed the whole deal which could come under the RICCO statute. That could be very serious and he could be facing a long prison term. That would be typical of the americans and their right wing ways. It could really turn out to be a tragedy and ruin a guy who from what I understand is a great guy. How come Gretzky is around these guys but never involved? (Mcnall)

  2. I would say Redden no question. He's easily overlooked. And chances are the Senators will be hardpressed to sign both him and Chara...

Kaberle and McCabe are very good, no doubt, but I don't think that the Leafs will let em go.

Sundstrom is a guy who coaches love because positionally he doesn't make any mistakes. Unfortunately he brings not much else to the table, in that he doesn't really stand out. There was a time when he was putting up 20 goal years for the Rangers (he was drafted very high and was highly touted)..but those days are long gone.

if ottawa cannot afford him what makes you think we can?

  3. personally I don't think our team is that bad. Do we need some guys ok all of them to step up and play like they can OF COURSE. But this is still the team we were all so happy with 25 games ago. Theo needs to sit and think for a while. Fortunatly Huet is proving to be one hell of a back up. I must admit I never saw this coming. If theo sits for a while he will get his competitive juices flowing again because he will realise he is not Montreal's saviour ala St. Patrick. H e is really competeing against a ghost if you think about it. Lets keep what we got make the playoffs and see what the off season brings. Believe in BOB. He is not a loser never has been and never will be.

  4. I am sick and tired of all the berating of Gainey.

ENOUGH. Give him and the Habs a break.

We have a NEW NHL. A NEW game. Gainey and all the other GMs had to take educated guesses as to how the NEW game would be played.

He took his shot and missed. Give him credit for that. Fergie Jr. did nothing in Toronto. At least Gainey tried. You all wanted that.

He will regroup and rework the Habs into a very competitive team, now that he sees and knows what the NEW NHL is all about.

Be patient. You'll be happy you did.

I agree 1000% all of the moves that Bob made were good "AT THE TIME" I think it was Dolly Parton who put it best I never made a desion that I thoiught was wrong. All decisions are made on the basis of the facts we have at hand. Be patient BOB is not a loser he never has been and he never will be. We are fortunate to have him. And hey at least we can beat Boston and the leafs We will have to wait fot the next cup BUT it is coming...

  5. GMs should make moves based on the best information available to them. It is NOT their job to be psychics, prophets and fortune tellers. With that in mind:

-Garon for Bonk/Huet. Bonk was a PROVEN NHL veteran at centre, which the Habs needed in case Ribeiro should regress after his breakthrough season. A desirable player to have, and a significant upgrade for us, given all the information available at the time. Theodore was a proven #1 goalie. And Huet is a perfectly good backup. Therefore, this trade made sense. Expecting Gainey to know in advance that Theodore would suddenly collapse, and that Bonk would be hampered by a groin pull and never fully recover his moxy in Montreal, is ridiculous.

-Hossa for Murray. I'd rather have Murray - a physical, gritty, leaderhsip-type guy in an orghanization that desperately needs these qualities - any day. Hossa is a marginal player, garbage. I can't believe that anyone is still lamenting the loss of that clown.

-Hainsey. Yep. Things look bad on this front NOW...but it's far, far too early to come to a definitive assessment. It would be lunacy to condemn Bob's tenure in Montreal because Hainsey has played well for a few weeks. Talk to me in about two years.

-Perrault. He was let go because he's getting long in the tooth, because his defensive game sucks, because his faceoff prowess is overrated, and because Ribeiro beat him out of a job. All good reasons. Now that both Ribeiro and Bonk have collapsed, this looks like a bad move - but see my first point about Bonk.

-Julien. Give me a break. This was a lateral move at best, but something had to be done. You'd swear Julien was Scotty Bowman the way people are now talking - anyone remember his uselessness with our young guys---?

As for the idea that Bob has ONE MORE YEAR TO MAKE THE HABS A GREAT TEAM, well, if short-term fixes are all our organization can think about, we're condemned to another 20 years in the wilderness. Bob was NOT simply a great player. He has been a great coach (in Minnesoat/Dallas) AND GM (Minnesota/Dallas), where he led a crappy franchise to dominance and Cups. The track record is there. But is he a psychic? No. If proven players don't produce, then ANY GM looks bad.

And you know what? If Theodore hadn't sucked rocks all season, no one would be writing this now.

my point exactly but much more eloquently

  6. I say it's between Souray and Komi with my bet on Souray. Komi and Cote have been getting better together, I like that pairing. Souray, on the other hand, been watching players Breeze-by him.

from what I have seen lately sourry is taking dance lessons. He has been practising the latest dance steps with the like of charra spezza and bergeron
