  1. Yes, there's a Young Stars team in this tournament...as long as you're from Canada or USA. If you're not, then you can't play for that team but you can play for your country (for example, Patrik Laine is on Finland). Perhaps more apt names for the final teams would be 'Gimmick Team 1' and ' Gimmick Team 2.'

Talk to any of the players involved, and they'll tell you how they laid in bed as a child, dreaming of hoisting the Gimmick Cup.

  2. I experienced recently what I guess is a somewhat common problem with Windows 10. Out of the blue, I couldn't left-click on the Windows start button, which obviously made things pretty difficult to navigate. I actually had to rewrite some code in order to get it back up and running. Pretty annoying.

Other than that, I have no issues and it's definitely faster than the 7 that I upgraded from.

  3. I'd come down the middle on this myself. The team needs offence - PERIOD. Now I'm not saying Reway is the guy to provide it (some of you have noticed my general policy of putting little faith in raw rookies). What I am saying is that if you have a player who can genuinely provide that dimension on your team, but whose defensive game is mediocre, we should tolerate it under the circumstances. Now, if the player is worse than just mediocre - if he's outright terrible outside the O-zone and doesn't give a sh*t about improving - that's a different matter. He needs at least to show some good faith, some willingness to be half-decent. But I would tolerate some lapses and mistakes in exchange for goals.

I tend to agree with all of this. This was why I was ok when the Habs signed Semin last year; I thought his offensive contributions would outweigh the occasional defensive lapse. Clearly I was wrong in that case, but Reway might legitimately fill such a role in a few years, if not sooner. BUT, Therrian will have to take the bad with the good, and realise that not every player is going to be a Selke candidate if that's going to work.

  4. How many other keepers do you have; of those, how many are of the evener distribution variety? If you have some higher offence but more finesse players, I'd go with Landeskog. If your other keepers are more balanced though, then I'd lean towards Panarin. But that said, I'm the type of fantasy GM who likes to try to compete in most categories instead of trying to load up on winning 5 or 6 each week. If you lean towards the latter, then I'd be more inclined to go with Panarin.

I have Panarin in my keeper league and he's one of four skaters I could justify keeping (out of two, the others being MacKinnon, Wheeler, and Eichel). I'm more or less wrestling with the same idea - is Panarin going to be a one hit wonder or is he legitimately a 75-80 point player? Not an easy call to make.

When healthy, Malkin and Seguin are multi-cat threats, with P Kane obviously contributing heavily on the offense. I'd gladly sacrifice hits and blocked shots every week if it meant winning the majority of the categories.

  5. DON is apparently overjoyed.

There's a relatively small number of people, guys like Commandant and myself, that don't have anything against Therrien, particularly, and don't see any obvious massive upgrade available. That's not exactly the same thing as being 'happy' about him coming back. 'He'll do' is basically our argument.

And then there's the clear majority of teeming anti-Therrien loathers. Most of whom will quickly come to loathe MT's successor, and his successor, etc..

Count me in the "He'll do" group. Unless realistically there's a better option available, I don't see the need to get rid of him (although I admit earlier on, I wanted BLOOD after such a shitty season).

More and more I wonder why the supporting cast has remained intact; that concerns me more than Therrien behind the bench.

  6. Well, since you're on a roll, Brian... One of my leagues is a quasi-keeper, and I have to choose between Landeskog and Panarin. It's a head to head league, and the skater categories are G, A, +/-, PPG, PPA, SHG, HITS, BLKS, SOG, PIM & GWG. Landeskog's impact is more evenly distributed, but I think Panarin has a higher ceiling if he isn't a one-year wonder.

    Thought anyone?

  7. Or they wanted to stand behind their captain knowing all of the nonsense that was out there about a lack of leadership in the room. Or some voted for each of them and Pacioretty got one or two more votes. As I wrote in my column last night, I don't really see the need to read between the lines here. Yes, it was a tad surprising considering Subban's well-known generousity but I'm not inclined to think there's a rift or a divide simply based on that.

It wouldn't surprise me if PK was advocating for Patch to get the votes.

  8. P.K. Subban played with a strained MCL from SJ game Feb 29 until he suffered neck injury Mar.10. Recently stopped practising with a brace

That might partially explain the increase in tumbles he was taking later on in the season,

  9. Didn't we kind of luck out in the lottery in Carey Price' draft year? I vaguely remember thinking that, thanks to the miracle of random chance, we might actually snag Crosby. (Price was a pretty good consolation prize - I've never forgotten the hysteria among fans that we failed to pick that obvious superstar, Gilbert Brulé  This is why I don't pay too much attention to 'expert' pronouncements on the merits or demerits of any given draft pick).

Anyway, the point is that if we lucked out once, it seems implausible that we'd luck out again. (I get that random is random, but what can I say? I tend to quit while I'm ahead, which is why I'll never make it as a gambler).

Yeh we did luck out. Montreal had only one ball in the lottery (as opposed to 2 or 3)

  10. Barberio mostly does what he does, I think. (I like the kid, and have done from his first game with us). Just like Pateryn can mostly do what Emelin does, notwithstanding Emelin's excellence in Big Games, which I doubt Pateryn can emulate.

I'd cut both veterans loose in favour of these youngsters. Then look to sign a seasoned, Weaver-type vet on the cheap to serve as #7 defenceman, just to make sure we're not relying unduly on babies back there.

I'm hoping Gilbert would be willing to assume that role (and get paid as such)

  11. First week of head-to-head playoffs and these players from my fantasy roster aren't playing: Price, Subban, Malkin, Seguin, Landeskog, Vatanen and Gallagher. I recently dropped Cammalleri and Lehner due to injury. And I just got O'Reilly, Hossa and H. Sedin back from injury. I can't think of ever having worse luck with a fantasy team.
