All those teams are only in existence because "the great one" went to Hollywood.
His move was not good for the NHL.
If he hadn't of gone to LA the NHL would be better off.
Let's keep in mind that his move to LA was not voluntary. But even if it had been, yes, shame on him for trying to increase the popularity of the game!

Not to run this into the ground, but I just have to reply re: the Worksafe ad.
I will determine when and how my children learn about and deal with potential accidents as well as how they deal with nightmares and anything else this world has to offer. That's my job as their Dad and I love my job. I don't like these things being determined by anyone else let alone a television station. And just so you know we don't watch a lot of tv, but the Habs usually are damn good TV! Thankfully I have RDS...except I have to deal with Pednault...
I do believe that the message in the add is the right one, but that the graphic nature is just too disturbing, in my opinion.
Agree completely. The ads were seen by both of my kids and caused a lot of problems. They're totally inappropriate and I'll be telling the CBC that too.

Roy's contribution was great, without a doubt. But methinks it may be easier to add him and subtract Moore because Roy's accomplishments are in 'living memory', and not necessarily because his accomplishments were greater.

I agree. It took Leclair how many years before he became a bonfide NHL power forward? 4- 5 years at least. Give Tenderness the time. It always takes longer with big boys!
It took Leclair a change of scenery to get going - he was excellent immediately after he was traded. Hopefully the experience with Latendresse won't be the same.

Wow, yesterday (nov 5) was a shutout night! Five out of 8 games ended by a shutouts (nhl.com/scores/index.html)
Is there a way to check what's the all-time record of the most games with shutouts in the same day?
Yes. Review every night of games and count the shutouts.
Off you go...

Yeah, don't know, what's the status on that hit? Is the league reviewing it or was Kovi meant to writhe on the ice a la Ribeiro in order to have the league deal seriously with the elbow foul?
Actually, Kovalev WAS on the ice a long time, and it was a shoulder, not an elbow.
Definitely not a suspendable offence.

The NHL should tighten up on its awarding of assists, if the stat is going to keep any credibility. A couple of weeks ago, Sundin was awarded an assist that put him past Sittler in all-time Leafs scoring - and he was given a standing 'o' and everything, and then someone realized he never touched the puck! It was corrected, and he was given a legitimate assist later in the game... but would the originally-awarded assist have been rescinded if it wasn't noteworthy? Not likely.
Since there's already a proliferation of stats, I also agree that first assists could be tracked separately from second assists (they would both still count as points for consistency with previous years). I don't care what they tell you in Atom, a goal > an first assist > a second assist!
P.S. Leafs suck.

It's all speculation and I hope he is healthy, but to say he turns ottawa into a contender isn't true. He was supposed to do that for Nashville last year. They were going to be put over the top but they actually got worse. Sometimes glorified players can weaken a team. I don't think Forsberg is the player he used to be. His ankles are screwed. That will change everything. Hard to win a cup when you should be sitting in a wheelchair.
I don't think Forsberg would hurt Ottawa, and since they're a contender already...

love that last pic, with the pouting leaf fans right frame, especially the mousy chick front row hehehe. let's create more such photo ops saturday!
Yeah, and the guy holding his head on the far left is priceless, too!
The Leafs always show up against us (damn them), so it won't be easy. Tonight would be a good time to start tilting this matchup in our favour on a permanent basis...
Go Habs!

I think the day is coming when they bring in an experienced, competent GM, because the fans and media are increasingly demanding it, especially after seeing how the Raptors responded to such a change. I don't think a Colangelo-esque quick turnaround in fortunes can be done with the Leafs, though, simply due to having too many (marginal) players locked up for too long, and for too much, and the aforementioned lack of draft picks.
As the others said, it's all good!

Great move by JFJ.
I agree. This bizarre and unlikely scenario has distracted everyone away from the previous topic in Leaf-land, namely discussing exactly when (not if) MLSE should fire JFJ!

I don't have RDS, but there's a free preview of ESPN Classic going on, so the Habs game I watched was game 5 vs. the Nordiques from 1993. (game summary: Roy rules, Hextall sucks).
Glad that the Habs won twice last night. Yay Habs!

Do I detect a hidden message?
I smell a traitor amongst your group, folks!
No - using 'Leafs' as a synonym for 'least' is perfectly acceptable.
Mine:
1. Leafs (who else?)
2. Rangers (never liked them due to their high spending ways)
3. Carolina
In the past, #2 would've been the Nordiques, and at times they would have been #1. That was one hell of a rivalry.

Thanks for the recap, Chips!

You're forgetting Georges Vezina (my Habsworld namesake!), the sadly overlooked Bill Durnan, Patrick Roy, and my own candidate: Jacques Plante.
Sadly overlooked in right - Durnan had 6 Vezina wins, equal to Plante as the most with the Canadiens (nobody else comes close).
As someone said, comparing across generations is impossible. All goalies mentioned, including/especially Roy, had the benefit of the accumulated wisdom of goaltending to that point. Certainly there were no goaltending coaches for most of the history of team, and the plus-sized equipment helped Roy too.
Given that he was both an innovator and the best goalie of his time, my vote is for Plante.

Harper not liked in the West
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/071004/...est_poll_harper
The insurrection is on. lol As I predicted once Harper goes, the Conservative Party will go with it.
1. 'Harper not liked in the West' is not a good summary of the article. He's not viewed as a westerner; guess what - neither is Stephane Dion.
2. Insurrection? Are you serious? Have you stopped following Canadian politics now that you're here? Harper is daring the other parties to defeat him because they're in such disarray.
3. "As I predicted once Harper goes, the Conservative Party will go with it." Why? Because he was elected due to the power of his personality?

Sad news - this can be devastating emotionally. I'm sure his teammates and management will support him in whatever he needs to do for his wife and himself.

hmmm, should I go to my hockey practice and miss a barn burner of a 3rd period or should I skip it a watch the whole game
What do ya guys think
Screw practice - you're good enough.
-
I have as much love for the weafs as I do their fans taking dumps on my livingroom floor
You said it, brother... anyone who takes a dump on MY floor better be a Habs fan!
-
Great job once again, Spidey.
After seeing that 'game thread' by jcc, I'll never take you for granted again!
Oh, and Go Habs!
-
I think they should stick together for the sake of the kids.
Luxembourg?

"People say I have got concussion problems, but I don't have concussion problems," McAmmond said. "I have got a problem with people giving me traumatic blows to the head, that's what I have got a problem with."

You're a goaltender in a fringe sport, in a league that's struggling to survive against High School football, poker, and pre-horse racing shows on television.
I must admit, that's a good line.

There is no basis to deport you based on the activities you've described. You and/or your views could be ignored, second-guessed, mocked, or ridiculed, (i.e. nothing you haven't already experienced here on Habsworld )... but not deported.

Usually I'm ecstatic after beating the Leafs, but that was just a brutal performance by all except the 5 identified by Habsfan. Other than a good chance by Koivu in the 3rd, the first line was invisible. I'd like to take it and run, as Habstown suggests, but this kind of play is the norm when playing Toronto. Strangely enough, we played even worse than usual, but ended up with the win. If not for Price, the Leafs win in a rout.
As long as we keep struggling against mediocre teams, we'll always be a mediocre team.
