  1. Isn't the age going down to 27? Thus it would be 8 years if I'm not mistaken.

Crosby will be unrestricted when he's 25.

The new NHL rule is, 7 years in the NHL and you can reach UFA status.

Thats why alot of teams don't let 18 year olds play, because if they are only going to get 5-10 mins per game... its not worth having them turn UFA a year earlier.

  2. I'll add my voice (words) to those supporting Souray. You don't just throw someone away because of a few mistakes, especially given the personal issues he was dealing with. I trust that Habs management understands a certain level of loyalty to players is necessary to expect any back in return. I fully expect Souray to come back and have a very good season. Mistake-free, no; but if that's the standard, there's noboby who can meet it.

BTW - Habby1197's post seems to have received response based on one sentence contained therein, but the rest of his excellent contribution is filled with reasons WHY people should 'stop shitting on Souray', as he so eloquently put it. Criticizing one line out of context ignores the validity of his argument.

    Thanks Mont Royal!

Kozed, off topic... but you back for another SK season?

    I would hope so.

  3. What people have to understand is that Souray at 2.432 million per year might be the biggest steal in the NHL. He's not Pronger, but he isn't making 6.25 million either.

In a cap world, we're DAMN lukcy to have Souray, especially at that price.

Also, I think it's fine to tell people to stop "shitting" on Souray, mainly because calling him a 5th or 6th Dman is a joke, he's top 4 on any team in the league.

  4. I agree. Souray as a 3rd-pair guy would be the ideal. But since the Habs lack depth and are small on the left side (Markov and Bouillon the other D's), Souray gets more defensive missions than he can perhaps handle, especially against big, fast and talented offensive forwards.

I dont see who in the Habs' prospect pool could replace Souray on the left-side in a year from now. Too bad that O'Byrne's a right-side guy. I'm guessing Gainey will have to find a replacement through trades or free agency. Unless J-P Côté shows some tremendous progress.

    Okay, that's it.

    I can't take it anymore.

    EVERYONE STOP SHITTING ON SOURAY.

After an ALL STAR 2003-2004 season, he had a rough start to 2005-2006, can you blame him? He had a very messy spilt with his wife, and clearly didn't have his head in the game.

Pre Olympic break he had 5 goals, 15 assists in 49 games, which is very dissapointing. Then once he had two weeks to get himself together, at the TOUGHEST part of the year he went on to put up 7 goals and 12 assists in only 26 games, which are numbers for a TOP dman. He ended the season with 39 points in 75 games. Without his messy start he's a 50+ point Dman. Okay yes, he does get undressed from time to time, but not as much as everyone seems to think.

I think the Habs should do EVERYTHING they can to lock him up long term, replacing Souray won't be easy at all. He's a big time leader on the team, whenever someone runs our goalie, he takes care of it. When someone runs Ribeiro, he takes care of it, if someone goes after Koivu, they meet Mr Souray. He doesn't choose who he protects, he's the ultimate team player, and the players on the team appreciate him immensely.

Remember, Pavel Kubina, who IMO is not a better Dman than Souray, got 5 million a year from the Leafs, if we can sign Souray long term for 3-3.5 million per year we better do it. Because there are better defensemen in the league, but not as many as some of you think, and many of them can't bring what Souray does, not in the least.

Remember, he strikes fear into other teams, and if the team you are playing against is scared, they are at a disadvantage.

One more thing, I'm a season ticket holder, I go to 40+ games a year, I see what goes on during the commercials and whatnot, Souray is ALWAYS pumping up his teammates, encouraging them, being a leader.

If he goes go, many of you will regret what you said, because without a doubt the Habs will be a weaker team, in more ways than one.

  5. 2 million left in cap room is quite a bit for a deadline deal considering the salary will only be based on how many games are left in the season...like Corvina said, that could be a 6 million dollar player.

It's actually an 8 million dollar player, or 8 million in players... since the deadline is now with about 20 games remaining... 25% of the season... So 2 million in cap space gives you 8 million dollars available in salary room.

  6. I love what he brings to the team, but that much money seems like a bit much to me.

Personally I think we should have let him walk and got someone else, however, he is not being overpayed.

He is a #4 Dman on many teams, and he has been a good team player on the Habs for years.

For example Wallin got 6.9 million over 4 years for 1.725 million per season.

Wallin is no where close to the Dman that Boullion is, IMO.

Also Commodore signed a two year 2.5 milluon dollar contract for an 1.25 per year average, who also is no in Boullion's league.

He's an excellent skater, good first pass, can fight, throws big hits and plays with pain.

    Is he undersized? Forsure.

Is he overpayed? No way in hell.

Many people seem to forget that he is a UFA with all the bargaining power. I'm 100% sure there are at least 5 teams that would have been prepared to give him 2 million + per season.

    Welcome back Boullion.

  7. THe only reason he didn't end up in Hamilton was that he wouldn't have come over from Switzerland. He could play at a higher level over there.

If anyone saw 110% tonight, they said Streit signed a 2 year one way contract worth 2 million dollars... 1 million per year, most of the guys on the show were furious... and explained that Boullion won't sign for less than 1.8, while Huet is looking at 8 million over 3 years.

  8. I'm not one to make anything up, I saw it... I'm sure other people did too.

I found someone else who heard it...

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did anybody hear Kovy reply to reporters that if BG thinks he didn't do enough then he's going to start arguing about it. He sounded angry that BG would single him out and suggest he wasn't doing all he could. The thing that makes me angry is that BG NEVER said that. Asked if he thought Kovy could play better he said yes. We are saying the very same thing on this board. Of course he could play better if he was surrounded by guys that could keep up with him. The reporters made it seem that BG said he didn't try when BG said he could do better. Nothing like the media to cause a problem where there is none. Now BG has to make sure Kovy knows he didn't single him out. What a waste of effort and time.

Looks like the reporters didn't really tell Kovalev what was really said... But Kovalev was still very upset.

  9. If he did say that, why hasn't the media jumped all over it? Inflammatory stuff like that is media-fodder.

I find it more likely that he said"you" instead of "him." I wouldn't be surprised if his comments were directed at the interviewer. I can't imagine him saying that about his GM.

I'm not one to make anything up, I saw it... I'm sure other people did too.

  10. Im not sure if anyone else saw this, but after the game Kovalev was greeted by reporters saying that Gainey said that Kovalev and his line didn't do enough in the series... Kovalev responded " I don't care what he says, I'm never appreciated anyways, It's been like this for years... I really don't care what he has to say".

Did Kovalev just play his final game in Montreal?

  11. just wondering if my fellow :hlogo: fans are looking forward to it, or if this film looks like a bust to the habs nation. I know me and all my friends are looking forward to the film, but how about you guys(and girls)?

I saw it months ago, it was showing here in Montreal at the AMC. It's a good movie, you'll enjoy it.

  12. Florida has a good chance against Atlanta and you never know when Ovechkin will take over a game and win it.

I agree that Montreal probably won't beat New Jersey, but I also think it is very possible that Atlanta or Tampa lose a game. Florida is not a bad team, and Roberto Luongo will be standing between Atlanta and the playoffs, unless of course Ovechkin ends their season first.

Have some faith, Atlanta is the one with the most pressure on them.

I was at the game tonight, I feel pretty sick... How could Gainey not call and time out and how can he not have Kovalev on the ice with 45 seconds left? He's a joke of a coach.

Habs go into the game on Tuesday with a point.. at 0-0 they have their point, they don't even need to gain anything, they just have to not lose it.

  13. I'll go if Habby1197 brings Randi (blast from the past, uh?). :P

Sorry for the chatter, had to slip that one in. ;)

Hahahahaha Oh wow, I love it... Having an annoying girl night, Randi... wow, blast from the past is right, she's bad news that girl...

    Kozed, Classic :)

hahaha, oh that brings me back.

Anyways, I'll be there. It would be fun/interesting (maybe scary. lol) to meet some of you guys. This is sort of a last minute thing, so I dont expect a big crowd. We should probably make plans on somewhere to meet before the game, some bar/pub on peel/crescent/etc, somewhere in the area of the bell centre. Or we could just goto la cage like everyone else does.

Yeah, last game of the year I'm there we could all forsure share a beer or two or three...

  14. yes I know I am sure they would do that though some people will not be able to pay for all the tix with the same credit card.

I hope someone can give you a hand, otherwise you make sure you are online the second single tickets are available... Also, that means you won't have to put out 1500$... You may not be able to get Blues for 36$ each, but you will forsure be able to get Grey's for 45$ and Whites for 65$... Just make sure you're online with browsers open ready to hit refresh a million times.

Puck and I have gone this route before and have been successful, goodluck!

  15. Anyway you are only buying 2 tickets I would love to buy the other 2 please help a fellow habs fan out.

The only problem there is the refund, since you have to put out 1500$ for a pair of Blues, and you only get the money back 5 days after the Habs are out of the playoffs. Now if someone buys them for you and you give them 1500$ cash... you can't return them under your name. Maybe you could go with someone from HW and they could charge both your credit cards... Otherwise you get ######ed over with the returned tickets.

  16. I started a thread on this earlier I know that season ticket holders get priority on tickets for the full playoffs any chance you still have that option. I would give you the cash and you could get them for me. I really want to have the option to go to the games. Please Help HABBY 1197.

    http://forums.habsworld.net/index.php?show...playoff+tickets

Hey, I'm not sure I can be much help... It's max 4 tickets per person... There is a presale Sunday, try going to the centre bell because there is 100$ of extra costs buying online.

  17. So, I went to get my playoff tickets today at the Centre Bell... I got 4 tickets in the Blues for the entire playoffs, and then I went to sign for my season tickets for next year. I have had 21 game packs for the past 3 years, but I have decided to take the full year.

I go upstairs to the marketing department level, and I see my friend who works there and he gets me the paper to sign, and finally I have my own season tickets, and 2006 playoff tickets, I'm thrilled. I'm about to get into the elevator and the doors open, and it's Gainey... in a track suit, I'm with my friend and we both freeze. He asks up or guys, we say down... we go in and say have a good game tonight, and he says we'll do our best, thanks guys.

Ahhh... Playoff tickets, Season tickets and an Elevator with Gainey.

    I love Montreal.

  18. Hehehe. Man did I blast him back then. Remember?

I just pray Huet isnt the same. I dont think he will, because unlike Hackett back then, Huet's actually the one reason why the Habs are still in the playoff picture. But the playoffs will make or break him and only then we'll be able to know what his value is.

Hackett didn't have Huet's lateral movements, or rebound control... Huet is also, the coolest goalie in the NHL, no nerves, pretty much like Brodeur. His stats over his LA career were very good too, very solid numbers... I think Huet just plays the game and has fun... and it's going to put the Habs in the playoffs.

We're lucky he turned out this way, just like the Sharks are unlucky the way Kipper turned out.

LMAO, I do remember you ripping Hackett, good old ESPN boards... With LINDEN_FAN and Justathot.... haha

  19. Hack was a notorious choker, injuries or not. Every big game, he'd allow a couple of bad goals late in the 3rd. I will never forget the way he completely blew 2 games vs the Sabres with the season on the line in 2000 and cost the Habs a playoff spot.

You're 100% right, he never won the big games... He was a ok starter, but thats all.
