Kotkaniemi is day-to-day with a mild groin issue so Weal's in.  Suzuki moves up to the 3C role.

Sucks to hear that about KK but it could explain his poor play recently.

This is a good opportunity for Suzuki, he has shown in the past he thrives in the centre role.

Anytime Price would like to start playing like a 10.5 million dollar goalie would be alright by me.

Typing out, 'But how bad would the score have been if he wasn't in net?" kinda loses its sway after a bunch of 3+ goals against games.

He certainly started earning it after that second goal. Definitely redeemed himself.

  3. Great breakdown commandant.

In the last three games the Habs have

St. Louis....  61.5% corsi, 75.38% xG (5v5) and allowed just 29 shots on goal
Tampa...  55.6% corsi, 52.55% xG (5v5) and allowed just 22 shots on goal
Minnesota... 54% Corsi, 78.4% xG (5v5), and allowed just 17 shots on goal

The defensive issues that we saw in the first four games are resolving...... the trend is real.  The team had issues to start the year in their first 4 games in their own end.  The defence has picked it up starting in the St. Louis game (a softy goal by Price on Blais gifted them a third goal when we really should have held them to two)... The tampa game was again solid outside of a five minute stretch and the Bolts are likely the best offensive team in the league.... the Wild are a bad team, but the Habs played near perfect shutdown hockey on them.   And even with the Wild being bad, you can't say that about St. Louis or Tampa.

The defense on this team has turned a corner.

Nice for Carey to get the shutout.

The Wild are in an awful position going forward - a blah team that has lots of old players locked in longterm.

If this continues this way you figure they might start thinking rebuild. In which case some of there players might become available.

Like others have pointed out Montreal should be in on that.

What is up with Laval? That many fringe NHLers and legitimate prospects shouldn't be giving up a 4 goal lead.

Still trying to find team chemistry.

Goaltending seems to be a bit of an issue as well.

Sometimes, when players get old, they fall off a cliff. I don't expect this to be the case with Weber. What is more likely to happen are sustained bouts of substandard play, followed by periods where he looks like his old self. But gradually, as the former become more recurring, people will stop expecting him to play like his old self.

This is to be expected but hopefully Weber can continue on as Chara has down at the tail end of his career.

The good thing is Petry looks to be taking the next step, which should soften the blow when Weber no longer can be relied on to be a top D man.

Its not last night.  Claude started diminishing his ice time against Detroit and St. Louis.

I think everyone’s patience will wear pretty thin if this continues into the year.

I think in regards to Weber just like Kotkaniemi they both are clearly struggling but it is not entirely there fault. I think Weber will eventually turn it around because he is a grizzled vet and from what I’m seeing a lot of it is his positioning and bumbling the puck which can be corrected.

3 goals in less than 3 minutes of play and Weber was on for all 3 goals.

Julien said Kotkaniemi played poorly dropped him to wing and less icetime and Drouin good, moved up and more icetime.

Weber clearly is struggling out there. His positioning seems off he bumbles the puck far more often, which has been leading to far too many breakaways.

From what I’m seeing right now is Kotkaniemi is being blamed for last nights downfall, in which he surely did not play well by any stretch but is not the sole reason and for Claude to be putting this on a 19 year old future of the team is a little concerning.

Another couple of quality shots by Petry on the powerplay.  The man is on fire tonight!  His teammates should be inspired to play better.

Petry is establishing himself as the teams number one D.

Weber has been struggling for a bit, his last great game against Toronto.
