  1. Drouin had his golf tournament and a couple tweets came out about him calling up Ducharme and working on some of his struggles from last year, also did a bit of work with Julien as well.

Its promising to see him admit his faults and actively trying to improve.

I remember reading an article on Nathan Mackinnon about how the last couple years he made an effort to start doing the things that separate good players from elite players. And he has absolutely broken out to a top 5 player in the league with this mindset as before just trying to get by on his skill alone just wasn’t getting him there.

I think the same can happen for Drouin if he decides to take up this mindset because the skill is there. Now I’m not saying he will rise to a Mackinnon level but at least become the guy people thought he would be when he was drafted.

Well, if by some miracle the Jets are (a) dumb enough to trade Laine and (b) dumb enough to prefer Drouin over Domi, why, we should be all over that like Ron Hextall on Chris Chelios.

    100%

If you can build a trade around Drouin being the main piece you do it. I like Drouin and still think he can be a impact player but like we all know Laine could become a superstar.

Domi I’m definitely very hesitant though.

If you are Bergevin and Kevin Cheveldayoff offers you Patrick Laine for Max Domi + Josh Brook ..... do you do it ? #habs

    Nope.

Max Domi is our best forward and finally fixed our centre problems, plays a solid game and is a guy  you win with. Laine is a player you add to play with Domi.

Josh Brook is our best defensive prospect and hopefully Weber’s replacement when the time comes.

I’m not sure if I would do Domi for Laine straight up.

  4. I think Poehling can definitely have an impact on  the team this year. Not 1st c impact but an admirable impact none the less. His body looks ready and he already plays a strong game.

To a lesser extent I think Suzuki and Brook could surprise but I think both should get AHL time unless they absolutely show they are ready and in Brooks case it might be better considering both Weber and Petry on the right side he should get top minutes in the AHL but this kid is really good. He’s going to be a stud.

  5. I think what is happening is MB is waiting it out similar to the Max Pac deal last year. He wants to see where things fall in regards to a deal potentially to be made. We know a rumour is around Winnipeg with Laine and I’m sure there are other offers in the oven.

What needs to be considered is the roster players the Habs currently have. Do they consider Mete to have higher upside to what he’s shown. He was after all considered an untouchable a year or so ago after the world juniors. He showed great things down the stretch next to Weber and you figure he will only be getting better. And what about Poehling and Suzuki? I think management definitely want to leave room for these two should they show they have what it takes to be in the NHL and in Poehling case he already has.

Management probably want to make a move but I think they are hesitant because there solution could be guys they have banging on the door next year, you never know.

  6. I have a hunch that we will be seeing more from Drouin this year. I actually really like the player, his skill when his head is in the game is undeniable. I have heard rumours that Domi really gave him shit about getting himself together and I think Drouin feels a bit embarrassed on how he ended the season last year.

If he’s not traded I think he will put in a better effort and not get caught living in his head like he did.

Does this make Bergevin look weak to the rest of the GM's? The way he got played?

I actually think some a are pretty happy with that offer sheet, GMs now have a practical contract they can point too when they negotiate with there own RFAs.

Obviously Carolina isn’t too happy about it but oh well.

Poor Drouin, seems he is in nearly every proposed deal.

As is Suzuki, forwards that have a lot of upside but I think most are willing to part with for the right price.

Personally I still have faith Drouin can become an excellent player and I think management feels the same but for the right price can be moved and Laine is definitely worth it.

Its funny I have a friend who knows Max Domi quite well and he said that Drouin issue is he doesn’t prepare for games properly. Domi had to  baby him a lot and drag him to do the proper things training/diet etc. Honestly if the kid could just get in the right mindset it would do wonders for him. Anyway what can you do.

F**k the defensive warts, if possible to add him, i think would be best to do that, barring a crazy ask by Jets or agent.

Haha well that’s just it, I imagine the ask will be hefty, we have to keep in mind the Jets still want to contend and I know there defence took a hit.

Something around Petry and Drouin/Suzuki would be a good start but who knows.

I'm skeptical ... but if this is real, it surely should fix our pathetic PP once and for all.

So am I, his defensive warts are a bit concerning but there is no denying the skill and my goodness the shot.

Obviously this is just rumours so who knows what the hell it is. Won’t know until the Aho sheet gets worked out.

  11. I don’t mind this signing, like others have said he should be a serviceable D man next to Petry.

The one hope I guess is for Mete to really take that next step in his development next year. I thought he got a lot better when he got called back up, he’s a smart player and one could hope his upside is something like Ryan Ellis.

  12. Kadri has 30 goals playing as Toronto’s second centre prior to Tavares. He can produce so Colorado has found there second line centre.

Toronto needs to be able to design Barrie to a practical contract that will depend on how crazy Marners contract is. Be interesting what happens but this trade could look really good or really bad for Toronto in the next year.

  13. I don’t think this was a for show offer sheet. It was a predatory offer to a small market team that will be grimacing about having to pay close to there whole yearly profit in one year to a player that decided to sign it with another organization. If they match it good for them but this isn’t something they are happy to do.

Not to mention it brings him right to RFA which is a real nut breaker.

This also keeps things in perspective when our own RFA need deals, MB is not making the same mistake Dubas has made signing his star players.

  14. I honestly don’t think the added money would have made a difference, the Canes would have matched it either way.

What the Habs were trying to exploit is the front loaded bonuses to scare the owner away, maybe it works maybe it doesn’t. But he gave it a shot.

In any event even if the Canes match I still think the team is set with fresh young talent that will probably be making the team next year so it’s not too bad. Need to try to fix the back end though.
