I notice that every time we win a game, there is a flurry of comments among journalists and fans calculating our playoff chances. There is still denial out there - no doubt within the organization as well.

I agree last week when we where 4th last MB should of started selling our ufa's. We don't need to make big trades like trading away Pacioretty, Gallagher, galchenyuk. But we should be looking at trading Plekenec, petry, Benn. Get as much picks as we can and let the kids play see what we have and what we need to get to retool.

I don’t know about you guys, but the most exciting part of this season is when my phone dings. In that brief instant, there’s the small possibility that MB will begin to redeem himself. That we’ll begin to see the retooling of this team into something befitting of the most storied franchise in all of North American sports.

    Until then, tank baby tank.

Every point we get from here on out hurts this team and its future. Something tells me we end up picking in the middle again and blow our chance at a top 5 pick.

  3. With the way this season is going and the fact as of right now we are tied for 6th last in the NHL, do we shutdown Price? Send him home tell him to take it easy get the rest he needs and have him healthy for next season? This way we go for a top 3 pick in the draft. Or do we do what we always do push for a playoff spot come up short and pick in the middle missing out on top end prospects. I know it would be hard to tell a guy like price to get rest and stay home. I say from here on in trade our ufa's  call up the younger guys and give them a chance to show what they can do for the rest of the season. This way it gives you a better idea what we have in the system and what we need July 1st.

Colorado has a slew of background financial issues to contend with, there is a reason why they left so much of the cap open, they are struggling in their market, spending to cap is not something they can or will do anytime soon, so you can take them off the list as soon as immediately.

San Jose however has everything going for them, Cap space, the team is still in it, and with Big Joe likely on his way out, it makes room for Tavares to come in and fill the void while giving that team another 5 year window to get it done, that one would be difficult to compete with.

Only thing we have to offer is Money, A prestigious Market, Opportunity to right a ship sailing a drift and leaving your imprint on the team's rich history, The chance to be a part of a three pronged weapon with your Team Canada pals Price and Weber. There really isn't much else and to be honest it is very likely not enough, we will have A chance, but the likelihood of it succeeding is, and will remain, slim, I hope no one expects much more than that as an outcome to the sweepstakes.

Ok so lets say tavares doesn't sign here. What does the organization then do? Do we blow it up and rebuild?

I'll tell you right now: Montreal is not signing Tavares.

There is not a single thing Montreal can offer that better teams cannot.

Well unfortunately Bergevin put everything in that basket.

naïve expectation for this to ever happen, if they even trade 4 guys from this roster I will be surprised.

I know just saying tavares would be a big game changer if we can get him, which is why i don't make any big moves with our key players ie Pacioretty,Price, Gallagher, galchenyuk and weber. Right now i would look at clearing out the other guys and let our young guys play and see what we got.

I only look at trading our key guys if we don't land tavares.

  7. Like I said about Pacioretty, I say the same about Price, Weber, Gallagher, galchenyuk, we keep them and don't trade them unless we can't sign tavares.  With all the picks we have plus we should get more if we trade Plekenec, petry, niemi, Benn , at the end of the year we try and trade for tavares rights. If we can sign him we just need to retool. If we can't then we trade everyone and rebuild.

So it’s clear as day that those I’ve seen who want to see Pacioretty traded are also doomsday prepers when it comes to the future of the Habs. The common reason I’ve seen for trading Pacioretty is the theory that the Habs won’t be very good while he’s in his prime. While I didn’t have much hope for this season based on our off season, there’s no way to fully assess our team of next year or the year after that and so the reasoning isn’t completely accurate. You can place us somewhere in the standings next year and the year after that but the truth is, no one is ever right.

My stand on Pacioretty is this, if we can't find a way to lock up tavares on July 1st, then I would look at trading Pacioretty for a true center for this team.   He will be our only player that you would get a good return on. I don't trade him now or at the deadline or at the draft.

    Disagree

A gm who is tight to the cap and sees byron as a piece for two playoff runs would and should.

We saw what gms were willing to do to keep their core together and stay under the cap in all.the trades with vegas last year.

    That contract is real value.

I disagree also don't see any gm giving up a 1st for Byron maybe a 2nd pick but not a first. Byron on a playoff team would be a 3rd line guy not a top 6.

I think if you're planning a retool, which I think is very doable, Pacioretty stays on the team unless the deal is too good to be true. He has some trade value, but I believe he has value to the team also. Find someone to feed him the stretch pass and he will be back on pace for 40 next year.

You only move Pacioretty if you don't get tavares. If we get a top 3 pick this year, keep Pacioretty and can land tavares, then things change fast for the better. If we can't land tavares then you have to look at trading Pacioretty.

Failing to make the moves to acquire a player doesn't mean that they have to draft a centre

Again, draft BPA and you can trade for a centre.   Drafting McCarron and De la Rose hasn't helped them to solve the centre issue, now has it.  Its not as simple as just draft centres.

    Talent trumps all.

How else do they get the center than?? They clone it??? If you can't trade for a center you look within the organization farm system and that's by filling a need by drafting.

  12. 26 minutes ago, Commandant said:

Yes, and then when he is NHL ready, I'm going to trade that player for the centre i need.

or you know... i could have Jose Theodore, and Cristobal Huet, and Jaroslav halak, and Yan Denis, and still draft  Carey Price.  Kinda like the habs did.

But on your logic, they should have taken the centre.  Now who was the next centre taken immediately after Price?  Oh yeah, it was Gilbert Brule.

Thanks for your facts fitting the absolute perfect example for this franchise though, and thats why you draft BPA.

Ok in 05' we didn't need a goaltender, we needed a number 1 center. At 5 if we drafted by need we would of drafted kopitar. Then in the 3rd round if you wanted to take a goaltender quick was there bishop was there.

Just like in 03' we needed a number one center, the draft was full of them. What do we do we draft a winger.

All I am saying is for an organization that is in desperate need of a number one center we have passed on them in the draft for years.

  13. 11 hours ago, Commandant said:

Add to that, what you think are your holes today, and what your holes are by the time the prospect is ready are often different.

    BPA...  All day, every day.

So you're telling me that lets say you need i don't know a center and its your turn to draft you're going to draft a goaltender just because that's the best prospect available when you're drafting???? Even though you don't need a goaltender????

  14. I think our problems as an organization is that we don't look to the future as much as we should. We let star players age because we don't draft players that could one day replace them.  Which is why we end up holding onto them for far to long when they out live there usefulness as a player. Then we end up losing them for nothing. When we lose a key player to an injury we can't call up anyone that can fill the mins, and when we lose someone to free agency we have no one that can replace them In the system. We need to do a better job filling team hole's and adding depth at every position in our system.
