Tyler Segain has been stapled to bench as well as scratched in Dallas, is one example.

And it can be simply miss a shift or two or taken off #1 PP unit or #1 PK unit, or the opposite and a guy is doubled shifted or plays all 2 minutes of the PP. Go to extreme and a 7 minutes shift for Kovalev in New York....which backfired as Kovalev thought was because he was playing so well and not punishment for his typical lazy/floating play.

Sorry should of said that here they don't do that to the vets.

  2. Yeah but if you want to send a message to the team without making a big trade, then that's the only thing the coach can do. Take the C off max might wake the team up, put the responsibility on the players. Other teams have done it to there captains before. The one that comes to my mind is San Jose when Joe was there captain.

Rumours aside, signing Tavares would change the whole profile of this team IMHO.

With Tavares, this team has a core of JT-Price-Weber-Patches: arguably pretty close to contender status IF we can also somehow acquire a legit #2 puck-moving defenceman.

Without Tavares, this team needs to focus on its crop of young-ish FWs and look to build around them so as to contend in 3-4 years. That means rebooting via a Pacioretty trade and possibly other significant moves.

So I would wait until the Tavares file is settled before deciding on Pacioretty and guys like Shaw, etc.. (Pleks needs to be dealt at the deadline, obviously).

We shouldn't be waiting tell the trade deadline to unload our ufa's. Start trading them now. We are 4th last in the league, we have to realize that the season is done.  And for those who think otherwise you're the reason this organization can't rebuild this team the right way.

Hindsight drafting can be done for any draft.   Getzlaf was taken 19th overall so there were a few teams that missed on him between us and where he was picked.

but you can do that with anyone.  People say tampa has been a great drafting team.

Was taking Slater Koekkoek ahead of Filip Forsberg a good pick? what about Brett Connolly over Jeff Skinner and Mikael Granlund?

both top 10 mistakes by tampa.

which is why you can't judge drafting by taking one pick or two picks and going, we should draft this guy, instead of that guy.  You have to look at the whole thing.

2003-2007... Timmins is averaging 3-4 NHLers a draft, and gets legit star talent in guys like Price, Streit, Halak, Pacioretty, Subban, McDonagh.  this is amongst the best drafting in the NHL.

2008-2011... Drafting is poor, part of it is a lack of picks though... only legit talent is Gallagher and Beaulieu.

2012 - 2016... Drafting is looking pretty strong to be honest, as seen through a lot of the article.

But that is how to evaluate it, stretches of years... not individual picks.   Every team makes bad individual picks.

What I was saying is if we drafted by our biggest need which was center. That draft was full of centers we could of build our team around. We took a gambling when we were picking 10th.

  5. I think the draft we missed big time on was the 03' draft. If Bob at the time drafted by need we would of been set at center. We should of picked Getzlaf at 10, then in the 2nd round Bergeron at 40 we would of been set at center for the first time in a long time. Also that could of been the draft that won us a cup.

But Bob went kostitsyn at 10, and a guy who never played in the NHL Urquhart at 40.

Over which forward who was taken from the division?

he isn't better than anyone who made it.

I think that's the problem with this layout. Not really a fan of it when they did it, still not a fan of it.

Even the skill competition isn't the same it once was.

I still think they should make the all star game an out door game.

Yah, he is tied with some top quality d-men alright. :sarcasm_on:Fine for KHL, not so much for $6m/yr or trying to keep up in NHL when he has been slowing down and having his icetime cut every year for several years.

You can say the same about Plekenec but he gave him a 2 year 6mil deal without blinking.

  8. 2 hours ago, Prime Minister Koivu said:

The gist of what he said is that he is not making risky trades to help us make the playoffs this year but he will make trades to help us long term. That might mean Patches as part of a package for a young centre prospect for example. Where a risky trade to help now might have been Mete, Hudon, Galchenyuk and two firsts for Duchene.

What he said about trades was reasonable and sane.

He screwed the team last off season when he played hardball with Markov and Radu. Can you imagine how different this team would be today if we had both those guys here? Not to mention that the Drouin trade would have made sense as an all in, we are going to win now trade. We wouldn't have signed alzner and we would have some serious power up front despite having centre issues.

I wonder how many Habs texted or called Markov and said, "WHAT! You aren't coming back"? Just to hear how MB treated him like shit during the negotiations, how he wanted to come back, how he was willing to take a one year deal, how much of an asshat MB is...Did that conversation have any effect on anyone? I know they are professionals but if a coach can loose a room surely a GM can as well.

MB has not only failed to get us that centre (other teams have traded for them) in his term here but he royally screwed this team  and we are in this mess purely because he screwed up.

totally agree with you. He took on a team that was 2 top 6 players away from possibly winning the cup, and turned it into what it is now in his 5 years here.

    Cody Franson is on waivers.

Don't think Montreal has any use for him, but it is worth noting that Bergevin tried to trade Gorges to Toronto for Franson a couple of years ago until Gorges nixed the trade... might be some residual interest from Bergevin.

I guess it would be depended on how long weber is out

You're wrong... I'm not defending the GM and I want him fired.  I've said so many times.

I'm just not willing to make up things he didn't say to attack him.

I think we are misunderstanding each other because of this..... If Bergevin trades players a player  like Pacioretty ,Gallagher, or galchenyuk  he could probably get a #1c and I do agree.

But in his press conference he said he isn't trading his core group that means Pacioretty, Gallagher, galchenyuk aren't going anywhere.

Thats why he can't make a trade because without those guys being included in any trades for a #1c he doesn't have the pieces to pull off a trade.

I hope wording it this makes more sense.

Whos making up things? I just pointing things out. Its called reading in between the lines.

You wanted him to trade draft picks and prospects in December?

That would have been a huge mistake.

Do we forget this team started at 1-6-1 and have never fully pulled themselves back from that yet.

Even when they were third in the division it was by one point, and Boston had 4 games in hand.

The 5 game win streak was fun, but it was never followed up on.  Trading away future pieces in this season has never been the correct move.

You're trying to defend a GM who went into the off season knowing he needed to add scoring but instead just added an unproven player and lost rad and didn't resign Markov. Then did nothing to make up for there lose. There's a reason why the team start 1-6-1, that reason is the GM.

He doesn't want to trade core guys?  I don't think that has been an issue in the past (Subban), and I'm not sure its an issue now (we are hearing from Friedmann that Pacioretty is on the market). He may have made some bad trades, and there is lots i can criticize Bergevin for.  Being trigger shy to make a big trade isn't really a fair criticism.  He's made a number of big trades including Subban for Weber, Sergachev for Drouin, Petry, Vanek, Cole for Ryder, etc...  Most teams have not made this many big trades in Bergy's tenure.

Understand what he was saying in the press conference, he believes in this core,  he thinks they're still a playoff team....... that means he isn't trading anyone from its core that includes Pacioretty, Gallagher and galchenyuk.

I don't even know what you are arguing.

CC and I were discussing WHAT HE ACTUALLY SAID, and whether or not what he said in his press conference is the right approach or not given the current season.

You've added in a bunch of shit that Bergevin never said and now you are arguing against it.

You also indicated he has traded the future twice?  Trading a 27 year old Subban might be a mistake, but I don't call it trading the future.  Its not moving a prospect and draft picks.

So he's only moved one piece in Sergachev, and that trade was for a 22 year old, and I don't know that half a season is enough time to proclaim whether that trade was good or bad yet.  Sergachev is playing well offensively, but he's still far from a finished product in his own end, and is playing on the league's best offensive team.

If he made a trade in dec for help things wouldn't be this bad. But he didn't. I am pointing out that they're players that can help, he just doesn't have the pieces to pull off a trade.

Now with the future point, he traded away a big core piece of this team in Subban and got burned on it because he could of gotten that #1c for him.

Then he trades a young top 2 d prospect for what he called was our #1c, but now he is saying that he is best fit for wing. Thats two trades of your teams future and best trading chips And he got  burned.
