  1. “Suzuki’s two goals in 40 seconds are the third-fastest pair of goals by the same player in regulation and overtime in NHL history, behind Alex Ovechkin (37 seconds on Dec. 15, 2006) and Mikko Rantanen (38 seconds on Dec. 11, 2022). … Hutson, who has 62 points (five goals, 57 assists), is the first rookie NHL defenseman to reach 60 points since Nicklas Lidstrom in 1991-92.”

I don’t know though. When you look at the score card, it says Suzuki scored with 9 seconds left, and then 29 seconds into overtime which would be 38 seconds.

I suppose if it was something like 9.9 seconds left and 29.9, but even then that’s 39.8.

  2. Montreal beats Florida 3-2 (OT)

    Columbus beats Nashville 8-4

Detroit loses to St. Louis 1-2 (OT)

NYI loses to Tampa Bay 1-4

Detroit was winning 1-0 with 29 seconds left and Montreal was losing 2-1 with 9 seconds left and then scored 29 seconds into overtime.

Beginning to see some separation in the standings.

0-4-0 in the past week has been enough to place the Islanders in a precarious position. It’s developing into a 3 horse race.

Based on the points system, Suzuki (and Bennett) had the highest total out of the players here.

    Suzuki: (2g) = 4 Points

    Savard: 0 Points

    Anderson: (1g) = 2 Points

    Gallagher: 0 Points

    Caufield: (1a) = 2 Points

    Barkov: (2 pim) = 2 Points

    Mikkola: (1g) = 2 Points

    Reinhart = 0 Points

    Marchand = 0 Points

    Bennett: (4 pim) = 4 Points

I voted for Suzuki so I win :P

In all seriousness, I had goals as the tiebreak in my head but it was never announced so Bennett and Suzuki tie for the win.

Hutson was the highest out of anyone in the game (3 assists = 6 Points)

  4. First time in a while I’ve had to come down from a high rather than recover from a low after watching a game at home. I’ve felt this before but not in some time and this year, only when I attended in person.

It was a really big game. Had we lost, both New York and Columbus would have been sitting on our laps in the standings, and each of them with a different type of tiebreak in their favour over us.

I hate the Bruins, but at this point, don't care about them.  They are out whether we beat them or not.

I want the win, cause WE NEED the two points.

I was thinking earlier about how I don’t think about the Bruins anymore now that they’re crappy, even though I was thinking about them while thinking about that :P

Just a bonus I noticed when looking at the standings and seeing that they’re last place in the East.

  6. Keep testing Vanecek and keep laying the body on Barkov.

We don’t have the luxury of playing backups during playoff type hockey too often.

We’ve had three lines that have had opportunities but Florida’s been mainly relying on their top line. Barkov is feeling an injury though so keep being physical on him.

Florida is also missing Sturm who ran into Greer and didn’t return to the bench in the second period so Florida is already shorthanded.

Molson Cup winners by month this year:

    October: Caufield

    November: Suzuki

    December: Laine

    January: Suzuki

    February: Suzuki

Looks like Suzuki will likely get it again in March, so we pretty much have our answer.

    Also, the past few years:

Suzuki did indeed win the Molson Cup this past month. It was awarded prior to tonight’s matchup.

So it looks like this so far this year:

    October: Caufield

    November: Suzuki

    December: Laine

    January: Suzuki

    February: Suzuki

    March: Suzuki

Being a missing piece the team needed and being the MVP are not the same thing.

Example no one is calling William Carrier an MVP candidate for the team, but the improved defensive results and upturn in winning percentage also came around his trade.

That doesn't mean he's better than Lane Hutson or Mike Matheson who were on the team since October, just that adding another RHD was necessary to balance the lineup.  It doesn't mean he's better than the first two, but it does mean the team is better with all 3 vs 2 of them.

Laine has been necessary to add offence, especially on the PP.  But he's not been more valuable to the team than a guy like Caufield who has been here since October.  It just means the team is better with both of them in the lineup.

Alexandre Carrier plays for the Habs. William Carrier plays for the Carolina Hurricanes. I’m not sure many people would forget Patrik Laine’s first name. The comparison is off in my opinion. Regardless, I personally don’t hold Carrier’s value to the team as high as Laine’s.

In case it wasn’t clear as I decided not to number anyone after Suzuki, my order of importance to the team this year is as follows:

    1) Suzuki

    2) Hutson

    3) Caufield

    4) Laine

Caufield has more value to the team than Laine in my mind.

With that being said, Laine wasn’t brought in as a missing piece for the power play, it just so happens that he has excelled at an astronomical pace this year in the situation, thus being extremely valuable to the team.

Alexandre Carrier is indeed not better than Hutson or Matheson. Laine is however better than Caufield, Hutson, Suzuki, and the entire league (in terms of per game) at scoring goals on the power play. Suzuki and Hutson have racked up points as well but once again Laine has been our special teams MVP this year.

  10. This table shows the preseason projections teams had of making the playoffs as well as the current projection & change.

    IMG_6725.jpegIMG_6726.jpeg

The Habs and Capitals had the lowest predicted odds prior to the season out of the teams that are currently in a playoff spot. So, maybe the Habs would have been happy with that matchup in Round 1 had they been told that preseason. 🙂

In all seriousness, we would certainly be the underdogs but I somehow feel as though we matchup somewhat well with them. Perhaps even better than when Halak had to be a stop 🛑 sign in 2010.
