I feel like Weber deserves better than this indignity - being passed around like herpes - but such are the vagaries of the cap system. Since he is signed for another 678 years, he can probably look forward to another such ‘trade’ or two before it’s all over.

Well really it's on him. He doesn't want to officially retire so he can still get paid. It's just his contract that gets passed around since he's never really playing for these team's.

I'm unable to reply to quotes. I won't pollute the thread with superbowl talk after this. It was a hold. I said that. So by the book, it was a penalty. Just thought it was a shit call considering even if he didn't touch him at all, there's no way he is even close to making the reception.

Maybe they need to rewrite that rule to give refs some lean way.

But kinda of hull's ⛸ in the paint in OT that wasn't called and won them the cup. See I put some hockey in it 😹

Either way if refs don't make the call then it's a blown call.  Refs can't win .

KC played great in the 4th and earned the win, but that call was pretty tight. He didn't interrupt his route at all, and he was a mile away from getting a reception. It was a hold. The hold didn't affect the route at all. Without the hold, he still is nowhere near being able to catch it. Huge impact on the game. Too bad. It was shaping up to be one of the better superbowls I've seen in a bit.

He pulled on his jersey coming off the line then again in route . The player even emitted to holing him and hoping they wouldn't call it.

    The call was horseshit.

When you make 0 DPI or Defensive holding calls for 58 minutes, you can't call some ticky tack bullshit in the last two minutes.

If they were calling everything close all game, I could see it.  But the refs have to be consistent.  If they didn't call similar plays all game long (and that stuff was happening all game) you can't just make one call with 2 minutes to play.

    Should have been 4th down.

Chiefs would have kicked the FG (lets assume they make the longer FG) and the Eagles would have had 1:30 or so and 2 timeouts with a drive to win or tie.

The refs were letting him get away with that holding call all game. You know as a player in the fourth they're going to call it tight. He even said after he was hoping they wouldn't call it when he did it.  Refs didn't lose the game.

    As for the ASG/Skills Comp.

Was it really better, or was it just something that was new to us.  I think its lost lustre when you have seen it all 10 times or more.  Its glorified practice now.

We are all pretty hardcore hockey fans, i mean we post on a message board and discuss each and every game.

The thing is the ASG/Skills Comp isn't made for us.  It's made for kids, and getting new fans into the sport.

Always thought all star game should be an outdoor event.

    Anyone watching this junk???

It might be the worst thing I’ve ever witnessed.

I haven't watched the skills competition since they change it a few years back . Use to be my favorite to watch. But now it a carny show.  Miss my 90's hockey.

Hope the AHL Canadiens can crush boston

Don't think we're are going to get the top pick. Our hope is  we need to stay within a top 10. For now we need to cheer for the panthers to lose and become a lottery team.  Would be a great bonus to have 2 top 10 picks if we can't get the first overall pick.

Careful with mixing up your numbers as you jump from full-season AAV to prorated.  It's easier to stick with full-season.  The Habs can retain 50% to Drouin to bring him to $2.75M prorated.  That's the full-season AAV that's going to matter for teams, regardless of the fact that 80% of it will be paid.  A team needs to have $2.75M in full-season cap space to bring in Drouin at max retention.   I know where you're going with the other calculation but if you go with your $500K number, you can't compare it to full-season cap space, you have to look at the actual dollar figure of cap space of other teams.

At $2.75M (full-season), what makes him more valuable than a bunch of other bottom-six forwards with lower cap hits?  We're talking about an offensive player who hasn't scored a goal in a year and hasn't scored a power play goal since 2019.  He doesn't kill penalties.  What does he bring to the lineup of a playoff-bound team?  He doesn't bring anything to the lineup of a non-playoff team.

I don't think anyone on here thinks he's a top-six player anymore.  I'm not sure even he thinks he's a top-six player anymore.  And certainly no one thinks he's supposed to be carrying this team.

He's a mediocre fourth liner on a non-playoff team that's going nowhere fast.  There will be better depth players available.  More importantly, there will be cheaper depth players available and that's where Drouin's value tanks to zero.  Montreal can't get him below $2.75M (again, just using full-season AAV for simplicity).  Most depth guys make less than that even without needing retention.  Dadonov is basically in the same situation although if this line he's on now does well for a bit, there might be a taker for next to nothing.

But if that's all you're going to get - say a seventh-rounder for either of them - is that the best use of a retention slot?  Wouldn't it make more sense to be a third-party retainer on a move that gets you a better draft pick than that?  In that scenario, keep Drouin and Dadonov and rent out the retention slots for better assets.  If they can get a fourth-rounder for retaining 50% of 50% of someone else's contract, I'd rather see them do that than hope someone is desperate enough to pay a seventh for Dadonov or Drouin even though they technically would then lose those two for nothing.

Bergevin would give us a 1st for Drouin 😎

The Habs can only keep 50% max retention.

Just using an example some here still think of Drouin as a top 6 guy which he isn't. You got to look at him as a depth bottom 6 guy, that's where he has value. Especially on a playoff team and especially out of Montreal with no pressure on him to carry a team.

I just  pointing out that their is vaule for him, just  not high end type but low end picks can turn into a high end vaule . We shouldn't just let him walk away at seasons end and get nothing for him.
