He was cut by LA because at his salary and cap hit demanded first line production. Kovalchuk on an expiring contract and virtually no cost will be attractive to some contenders if he keeps playing well.
He was cut by LA because he was putting the production for someone getting Paid 5mil. No other team wanted him after that. If it wasn't for Montreal he would still not be playing and you think he'll get you a 2nd round pick and a prospect. Wow

I think I’m the only one who wants Kovalchuk to spend a little more time with us. Admittedly, I’m still not over losing Radulov, and to a lesser extent Vanek, after such short stints with our team.
If Kovalchuk somehow brought us a player and a draft pick, or a 2nd rounder+ then by all means, manage your asset. If the most we could get was something along the lines of a 3rd rounder, I’m not all too excited about seeing him go at the deadline.
What makes you think that others team's would give up anything for him? Just by him playing 2 games? This guy was cut by LA no one wanted him not even Montreal until they lost Gallagher and Armia to injury. A 2nd pic and a prospect come on now. Maybe at best a 5th round pick and that's at best.

When did you try hard to back them?
The direction of player development over the last 2 years has improved, the drafting over the last 2 years has improved. The only thing I have been hard on Bergevin is the on ice product is garbage.

I am sorry but that's it for me with this management group, this coaching staff and this team. Its time for full rebuild. I was trying hard to back them but I am done.
Clean house fire everyone and tank the rest of the year. 8 years of Bergevin and we got more lottery picks then playoffs made, and that's not by design. 2 8 game losing streaks in 2 months. This team has no depth on it or in the system right now. Talent level drops off big time after key injuries. That's all on Bergevin.
We have some good prospects in our system that won't be ready for the NHL in another 3-4 years time. We need to rebuild the team now so when they're ready we have a contending team. Its time to trade Weber, Price, Petry, Byron , Tatar and any UFA, get as much picks and prospects as we can. Our goal should be a lottery pick team for the next 3/4 years.

I wonder if MB would have took a similar deal last year, let's say Fowler for KK and Byron. Today's situation would be different and the future not that jeopardized.
Fowler was available before the ducks locked him up. They were asking for a 1st and I believe a 2nd or it was 2 1st not to sure but Bergevin thought Price was too high. So if he thought draft picks were to high of a price no way his trading Kotkaniemi for him.
-
dear Molson its time to clean house. We have hit new lows for this organization. 2 8 game losing streaks in a 2 month span is unbelievable and unacceptable. Do the right thing and bring respectability back to this organization.

53 points in 37 games? I think we’re beyond salvation now. Let’s hope Bergevin can sell some (older) assets at the deadline, and then let’s enjoy the draft.I know that but the question is does Bergevin know that. What's he going to do from now to trade deadline to try and save his job?
-
I am sorry but I know people don't want to hear this but...............This is all on Bergevin and I hope he doesn't do anything to try and save the season and F up our lottery pick.

Question.. Has any habs team every had 2 8 game losing streaks in the same year?

The had an 8 game losing streak earlier in the year with no injuries,
Enough with excuses, they are bad, 4 of the last 5 years no playoffs, that isn't bad luck and injuries
The injures are what's saving Bergevin job. He keeps using them as an excuse at the end of every season.

What happened to the habs team that played the first 2 periods? Third period starts, they start running into eachother, falling down, can't connect on a pass, skating lost in their own zone. That 3rd period was embarrassing. Something major has to change after what just happened.
Maybe Bergevin got mad and told them to lose lol😂

I don't want it to at this point...nothing to be gained by missing the playoffs by a little bit. I've given up on this bunch; tank right down to max odds for Lafreniere for all I care.
No I know but this team is beyond bad.

Something needs to give here

Does no one try and take the puck off the other team on this team?

Why does it feel like this team is stuck in quicksand?

We are so far removed from those picks. 2010 (Gallagher) being the most recent. Then 2007...2005, 2003. But hey, we won the Cup in '93!
The next home run will be caufield

I'm a Timmins fan (and if you'll excuse the analogy from another sport) it is better going 3/4 with three singles than going 1/4 with a home run and 3 strikeouts...
But I'd really like to see a home run soon.
Aren't
Pacioretty
Price
Subban
Mcdonagh
Gallagher
Halak
Home runs?

You can slice and dice up Timmins picks till cows come home, but it has been shown over and over to be above average overall.
Oh I know I have no issues with him.

Correct me if I am wrong but when we draft from 20-32 we have a zero success rate in drafting players in the first round. But when we draft from under 20 meaning 3-19 (never had a 1st or 2nd) we do have a pretty high success rate in drafting players in the first round.

Yes they made the change's finally to the development department. Which will help our top talent prospects big time, this time around.

Sorry for being literal. You literally said "the last 2 drafts have been great" then list 5 guys taken prior. Of your list, only Romanov, Caufield, Kotkaniemi come from the last 2 drafts. And again, only 1 has played in the NHL, and has not been a world beater by any stretch. That said, if 3 of 21 picks from the last two drafts become NHLers, that's a better conversion rate than they've had historically since 2008.
Recency bias has happened with every draft, with most fans. I remember when Collberg was a steal, shoulda been a 1st rounder. I remember when De La Rose and Fucale were first rounders we got in the 2nd round. Heck, even pundits like Button when doing a 2012 redraft were saying Galenchyuk would've been the 1st OA pick a couple of years after the draft.
Instead of improving the scouting department, it appears as though our drafting strategy is simply to increase the amount of darts we're throwing at the dart board. More picks isn't a bard thing, but I'd prefer if the staff making those picks was better at their job.
Yes since the reset which I do believe is the last 2 drafts we have jumped into the top i think 5 in terms of prospects.
But still we have players on our team we have drafted that should be regulars for a long time. Thats if we don't trade them.
I thought we should of traded that 3rd pick Instead of drafting galchenyuk.
And this goes back to i think our prospects didn't pan out because a lot of it was player development, more so then our drafting. Our player development has been really poor here in Montreal.
It's Battle of rebuild vs reset 7:00pm

I agree 100% their was no need to rush him back.
