  1. i think MB NEEDS to have a package deal in place for someone substantial. if we go back to Winnipeg for example

kane for eller bourque collberg ellis and 2nd rd pick or something of that nature.

    habs look

patch DD kane (this line looks very dangerous)

galchenyuk briere gallagher (briere centering these 2 for the next 2 seasons??)

bournival plex gionta (a 3rd line that already goes against the opposition and brings tonnes of secondary scoring)

prust white weise/ moen (a real 4th line that can play 10/11 minutes a night)

a balanced lineup with room to grow..... patch entering his prime with DD as his robin! galchenyuk, kane, gallagher, bournival still scratching the surface of there careers while insulated with vets.

These are the types of deals that are going to make us better. trading eller isn't the question. who is coming back in return is! if your getting a kane back who is younger bigger faster stronger and has more offence...... of course you do it. but we will have to give up something to get a coveted player of this nature and at this point eller is the youth we should be cutting ties with not patches or the galleys or the D.

next would be sending gorges on his way for a right handed defender

    subban R

    markov

    emelin

    tinordi

    beaulieau

    pateryn R

    murray
    gorges
    boullion
    Drewiske
as it stands we have only subban as a right handed shot on def. this is a serious issue on the back end and is not good for team balance.
for example emelin 1 year post op with a right knee reconstruct playing on the right side means he has to force guys to the outside opening up to his right knee.
    we need a righty ASAP
  2. 1st - E. Kane is 22 y.o.

2nd - last season: 200 shots on goals, 150 hits

Only one other player had comparable stats, Ovechkin 220 SOG 120 hits

3rd - last season 17 goals in 48 games -- equivalent to 30 goals in a regular season = Two X 30 goals season in 4 NHL seasons.

4th - he is on pace for a 3rd 30 goals season in 5 NHL seasons.

you would trade PK subban for evander kane straight up?? thats crazy talk period.

if we are trading PK subban we need to be getting the malkin's/ovechins/stamkos/tavares of the world not evander kane who with all do respect (you project would of scored 30 goals last year given an 82 game schedule). just as info subban had 5 less goals then him but 5 points more LY.

1st kane 22yrs correct pk subban is not old BTW

2nd shooting percentage of 7% (hardly something to write home about)

3rd last season he was on pace for 29 goals over 82 not 30 and this season he is on pace for 27. with that said one multi goal game and those projections change drastically! thats why I'm not a fan of projecting goals. look at max or ryder or DD as examples of projections being made prior to hot streaks or goals /points coming in bunches or slumps

4th as i said in #3 he has one 30 goal season one 17 goal season*( lockout) and is on pace for 27 this year.

all I'm saying is PK out scored him last year and will most likely put up more points then him this year, all the while playing D. we are 100 times better with PK in our line hip then with evander kane in it.

PK subban for evander kane straight up is crazy talk

  3. I really don't think you can get a 22 y.o. Evander Kane for Plekanec. Plekanec is my favourite player but I really don't know how and why the Jets would trade Kane for him. He is about where Subban was 2 years ago. He already has a 30-goals campaign (something Plekanec hasn't accomplished thus far). Oh and did I say he is 22 ? If Bergevin can't sign PK long term, I'd trade PK straight up for Kane and try to sign Kane long term ASAP.

thats crazy talk!! PK is one of the top 5 defensemen in the league. evander kane is not one of the top 5 wingers in the league. plex is better then evander kane all day long

You don't constantly change captains. Pleks for now. Once he retires/gets traded you re-evaluate. It would be great if Galchenyuk or Subban are ready at that time.

i meant id go with patches as captain and if not him markov for the years he has left before retirement and by then PK would be the man with the C

  4. MTL: Steve Ott (UFA)

Buff: briere Charles Hudon and 4th rd pick

    Mtl: taylor Hall and perron

Edmonton: josh Gorges, rene bourque sebastian Collberg, nathan beaulieau and a 1st rd pick 2014 1st round pick 2015

    **would this be enough?

    Hall plex gionta

    galchenyuk eller gallagher

    patches DD perron

    prust Ott moen

    emelin (L) subban ®

    marky (L) pateryn ®

    murray(L) diaz ®

    tinordi(L) boullion (L)

man we would be a helluva hockey team

  5. agree with gorges NOT being captain. he just isn't good enough. i think patches is the guy to captain this team moving forward. very vocal in the locker room. great in front of the cameras and he's one of our core best players. after him id choose markov short term for a few years while subban continues to grow into being the first Black superstar captain in NHL history!!

  6. man... the key to winning trades is getting the best player back. plex would be the best player back in all these trades. we would be the loser in all of them.

moving an expiring contract + picks and marginal prospects for a significant player under contract? thats ideally what MB should be looking at. we trade 3+ assets for 1. those are always the trades that are won.

id personally like to see a sign and trade for Ott to centre moen and prust. that would give us one helluva 4th line. maybe best in the league and a line that would make you drool in the playoffs.

  7. The only goalies that are starters right now in the NHL that started for Canada between 2000 and 2007 are Fleury and Price.

The only other NHLers were Auld and Leclaire.

i did mean WJC goalies overall and not just Canada. with that said there is only 60+ goalie jobs in the NHL and id bet 90%of them played in world juniors. but world juniors has new goalies every year or so

    2009 pickard/ tokarski(hab)

    08 jodion

    07 price

    07 super series bernier/ mason

    06 pogge/ dubnyk

    05 beauchimen*

    04fleury/ harding

    03fleury

    02 leclaire

    01 auld

    2000 finley

    99 luongo

    98 luongo

    97 biron

    96 denis/ theo

    95cloutier

    94fernandez

    93derouyville/ legace

    92kidd

    91potvin

    90fiset

    89fiset

    88 hackett

    87cujo

    86 burke

    85billington

    84wreggett

    83 vernon

basically just looking at canada alone over 20 years and not even counting the kids from 2008-2013 who haven't even got a sniff of goal at the NHL level,

pretty much every goalie has played in the NHL for a significant amount of time outside of beauchimen, pogge(dubynk), finley and derouyville(legace).

obviously there not all elite goalies but dissecting it a little more you'll see every 3 years or so a strong goalie comes out of Canada.

  8. I don't have anything against advanced stats, the more quality analysis the better. Advanced stats are too new to have any idea what we have in them. I don't see this big regression coming with the Leafs, looking at their roster shows they're a quality 6-8th place team, not a 29th place team. As far as us versus them, they would smoke us like they smoked the Senators ten years ago, it's just that bad of a matchup.

    no they won't!!!!

  9. PK just won the Norris any defender in the league can play 25 minutes with him and do better then they would with out him.... the only issue we will have with tinordi playing with PK is the substantial raise tinordi will command when his contract is up (see mike komisarek/ andrei the giant).

there is more then 20 young defenders in this league logging heavy minutes. dont assume that tinordi isnt ready to partner arguably the best if not top 3 d in the league with subban. its easier to play with talented players then to play with average players.

Tinordi has done nothing to show otherwise so far in his progression.

3 game call up... 13 minutes of ice time +3 and even contributed to the goal leading to a win!

5 games in playoffs... played more minutes was placed on the Penalty kill had a fight but finished -3.

he should of never been sent down if not for the old "dont burn a year bull" and we all know it!!!

he's 6'6" and 210lbs and counting.... he is exactly what the heck we are looking for. give the kid a real chance for success

he needs to play in our top 4 on the left with PK and any one lobbying for gorges in that role is crazy i think.

    tinordi PK

    Markov emelin**

    "tough defender" Diaz

    boullion

    drewskie

    nygren*

  10. Subban pinches all the time. Gorges stays at home. That's why they're a good pairing.

exactly.. now upgrade that stay at home defender with a bigger tougher stay at home guy!

maybe tinordi isnt ready for top 4 minutes yet we wont know until he is given that roll... im just saying gorges occupys a spot in the line up we need to address..

  11. Gorges and Subban is a great combo

thats because subban carries him...... boullion looked lights out early season when subban first came back from his hold out as well. same with diaz prior to being concussed. any one player will look that much better playing with great players! see chris kuntiz and or mike komisarik

  12. i meant moving forward... gorges is the guy i think we need to upgrade! although he has the heart and is willing to step infront of 100km pucks... he is just unable to clear the net and enforce play around the crease. he's to soft for top 4 minutes and lacks the neccesary skills to lead play out of the back. thats why diaz is the better option on the 3rd pairing with a tough guy.

markov and PK both want to dictate play and start our transitions and puck movement. they should run their own lines.

if we want a smooth transition for tinordi(lefty), putting him with PK(righty) or markov(lefty) is most definitly our best option. i think tinordi will be much less vulnerable on the ice playing 25min with PK on the right then he will playing 14min with say gorges/ boullion/ diaz (all turn over machines)! Its common sense i think. tinordi showed he was able to play 14-15min in the playoffs plus the penalty kill. 3 months of heavy minutes with our top D is just what the DR ordered till emelin returns.

In the meantime addressing the HUGE size debate on the back end with gorges diaz boulion... one needs to be upgraded and gorges is most valuable on the market and is locked up. both boullion & diaz are upcoming UFA's.

  13. dont forget big bad conacher and his tying goal with seconds left to turn the series on its head... man he's a big body!

i believe we need a bid nasty defender and a much improved price and our habs will be alright!

    TINORDI subban

    markov EMELIN

    "NASTY D" diaz

  14. Moen, Desharnais, and Gionta aren't exactly in high demand though; the latter may not be ready to start the season even. I agree with you that the older UFA's are a great way to manage assets for that exact reason, I just don't see teams lining up to trade non-NHL assets (prospects/picks) for these guys right now, not with the free agents that are still out there.

agreed, we dont need to move those guys today! what we need to do is sign morrow and jagr then we'll worry about the cap tomorrow ;)

  15. I think sometimes fans over rate the ability to 'just trade X,Y,Z, players for draft picks'. You cannot assume there is a market for players, especially this season when the cap has been lowered.

i think recent history shows that Jagr and Morrow are in fact tradeable, very easily i might add.
