  1. He looked shaky?????!!!!!

Not according to Hrudey and Healy in the postgame. They absolutely love him and don't understand why he didn't get a star. No 3 goalposts tonight and still only 2 goals allowed. While they praised Price for his last 2 games, they out and out said that Halak was the better goalie. Two former NHL goalies - I think they know what they're talking about.

BTW that move by Kopitar almost always ends up in a goal. The guy is skating faster and beats the goalie to the far side. i saw Glen Anderson score a goal like that against Patrick Roy in the forum once. The only possible defense against it is the poke check, and then you can get beaten like Miller was by Crosby in the Gold Medal overtime. (I've watched that goal in super slo-mo on my PVR a few times and I'm convinced Miller thought Crosby was going to the net a la Kopitar tonight. He was completely "not ready" for Crosby's shot.)

The 2nd goal was not the greatest, that I admit. But Halak made the saves when he had to.

And just like you, I'd probably go with Halak but for a different reason: because he gives us the best chance to win.

(Now that Halak is no longer our Olympic enemy, I'm back in his corner.)

sorry, but this is really getting to be to much... we understand how much your in love with halak but seriously im starting to just skip your posts cause its always the same thing... i know i stressed the importance of getting MAB off the def and fourth line for a week but halak??? we've all witnessed his emergence this year, as well as his impressive olympics against the best of the best, we understand he's really starting to show his gift u dont need to drive it home every chance u get.

there is no controversy here. halak has been the guy for like 2 1/2 months now. with that said it could easily have been 8-2 SJ if not for price.....

IF WE WANT TO GET IN THE PLAYOFFS WE NEED BOTH!!!!!!!

goalies which ever ONE is in I repeat is not the problem.... it's which team shows up in front of them!

  2. i think to these nhlers the olympics is much more important then any league game no doubt. it's the equivalent to soccer's world cup which most soccer players would choose over anything ... i think same goes for olympic hockey.... especially in russia where you become hero of a nation!!!! and as most of these vets get a shot at the stanley cup each year, for some if not most they get 1-2 shots at a gold medal... a chance to go down in history... can we blame markov for that.... ithink he's got his priorities just right!!!!

getzy had to play not for anahiem but for yzerman... he had to prove his health... if it wasnt for the olympics he would of never stepped on the ice...

this is like playing in the stanley cup finals for your country!!

    go canada go!

  3. You're everywhere, banging away at the Subban topic. If he's sent down, it has zero to do with management knowing there job. It's how to build a winning team. Defence is the biggest jump, from AHL to NHL. Seems alot of people on this site agree, as does management, because I'm confident he'll be sent down.

how you build a winning team is by doing exactly this! just look at buffalo for example. myers has worked out great. buffalo is virtually the same non playoff team as last season. only they have a young horse on there D now. in LA most analyst's believe that a 20yr old named doughty has transformed that hockey team along with steady goaltending from quick!

subban should be given the 4th spot on this team for the rest of the year good or bad and we should move who we have to to make that work... we will be a better team now and in the future for it! plus our cap will go down!

  4. You're everywhere, banging away at the Subban topic. If he's sent down, it has zero to do with management knowing there job. It's how to build a winning team. Defence is the biggest jump, from AHL to NHL. Seems alot of people on this site agree, as does management, because I'm confident he'll be sent down.

why isnt that u steadily use the "seems all of us agree" or "alot of us" or something to that degree to drive your points across???

No, not all of us agree... even carbo said during the game at some point you got take the leash off this kid....

    A) we want to fix the cap... here's a start... actually/ finally promote a kid that's NHL ready... does it make sense to call up weber when PK is leaps and bounds better...

    b) anybody comparing price (a goalie) to a player is a fool.. price's position is the hardest in hockey where every mistake is magnified... his mistakes cost us games....true hockey guys understand this & need only look to the development of M.A fleury for the reassurrances they need to sleep at night and maybe WE should stop anointing him the next brodeur, roy and dryden!!.

    c) how can a scoring winger like pacioretty succeed when he's given like 10 games on our top 2 lines. he played with checkers and got checking results... put him on the top line for 40 games and then we will judge. that's why he's back in the AHL were he belongs cause he's not ripping it there either.. lats is slow, he's always been slow that wont change, but in minny he's able to make mistakes playing with mikko and havlat something we were to impatient to do with saku and co.!!

as for PK Subban habsy, i know for sure you probably have yet to take in a bulldog game. i've seen over 20 this season alone. and in each 1 it was unfair that PK subban was on the ice!! he skates circles around everyone..literally, every shift he'll take the puck from his own end and go coast to coast creating a chance. he's obviously learning the game still but his talent pool is to high for the AHL. those guys in the AHL are not pushing him hard enough. he doesnt have to work hard in the game becuse he's better then everyone. is that a good enviroment for a blossoming kid??? no it surely isnt!

if it was up to me i'd have him battling the prongers and richards of this league, he'll learn more as long as the habs show faith and give time on the PP and have him on our top 2 pairings

    !

i didnt know your tight with management cause from the game i noticed that with marky out they were giving him more time.. giving him PP duties etc... i'm perplexed at how you see management sending him down... for all we know gauthier believes he's ready and pk 's finishing the season with us and were moving our dead weight defenders!!!

  5. You guys have been hard on the club. I don't share your feeling. With so many guys out, let's face it: it had to happen.

We're not done yet. After the Olympics, we should have Markov, AK46, Pouliot and Cam back pretty soon. We won't be an easy prey. And we also will have Subban in the lineup. It is pure stupidity to keep him in Hamilton. He already is the best defenseman after Markov and Hamrlik. The solution is pure and simple: trade Mara for a draft pick or place him on the waivers.

We need Subban with the big club.

oh so very right... were not done by a long shot... to be holding on to a playoff spot with 1/2 the goals we scored this season out of the lineup id commendable to say the least

i dont think this team is so negative as people suggest.. that was last year and this year is different. markov, gio, gomez, camm, gill, moen, gorges etc are hardly bad guys to be around in the dressing room. subban as ive said for the upteenth time is to good for the ahl right now. all the guys saying he needs to go back down NEED to watch a bulldog game to see how badly he rips everybody. it's like playing junior in highschool when your of age to play senior only because its easier.

  6. Haha I really don't mean to harp on this, but what does PK need to learn in the AHL?

tell me about it.... i havent said much these days but i said it before and i'll say it again for those who DONT watch the doggs.... he dominates/ toys with the players in the ahl....

he's staying and those who think he shold go back down dont really know.... it doesnt matter squat what other prospects have donein this hotbed... pk is exactly what we need...

  7. Because you can get younger players in other areas of need.

Like it or not there is a need for a 2nd line center or LW depending on where they want Pouliot to play. Pleks is a goner

Moving a goalie can get that accomplished. I am fine with either guy, They also have 2 pretty good goalies in Hamilton, a vet and a younger guy.

neither goalies are nhl calibre at this time.....

  8. Okay, I get it... but what's frustrating to me is that I'm only his biggest fan *because he's best for the team* right now. As I've said over and over again, if Price started to outplay him, I'd be in Price's corner so fast your head would spin.

Having coached quite a bit in both high school and community (not hockey so much, but football and baseball), I've always placed a premium on performance as opposed to style or expectation. I've sometimes had small, dinky little kids who looked like they wouldn't be able to do anything, give me great performances, day in and day out. You just can't measure something called *heart* and it's the most important quality for an athlete to have, even more important than talent.

I've also had the "superstar" players, who came in with a bad attitude and were mediocre at best (that is, if I allowed them to stay on the team, which I only did if they had a very quick attitude change). I can remember one year when I cut a superstar and almost had a complete mutiny on my football team. "We can't win without him!!!" He had been missing practices without a valid reason. I had to have a "heart to heart" talk with the team as to my reasoning. "Why should you have to come to every practice and he doesn't?" We won the championship that year.

(BTW If the superstar had come back, apologized, and promised to have a better attitude, I would have taken him back. That exact thing has also happened in my coaching "career.")

you sound like my buddy gerry.... who's a teacher

  9. Is that a fact Lammy? I was putting down their great play today to the "we want to impress and stay here so we'll play like crazy until we feel secure" syndrome. I can remember guys like Lapierre playing like this until he felt secure.

But if this is how they play all the time, the team should think seriously about keeping them here. Reminds me of years ago (the 60's) with the kid line of Lemaire, Grant, and Redmond. As their subsequent NHL careers showed, they were the real deal.

it's not just those 3 that play well! although both desharnais and trooter are in top 10 in scoring (trotter #4)

the dogs also won both there games this weekend even with all the call ups.... subban and pyatt being the protagonists....

  10. What a GREAT game!!! Fantastic effort out there by the Bulldogs players!! This is what I have been watching all year in Hamilton. :D

    me to!!!

    the bulldogs

and i've been preaching about white and a few of these dogs for a while now watching first hand what they've been doing in hamilton....

it's not all boucher you know? they got some good players down there and this is not the same bulldog team as last year!!

MAB & his PP pros vs "a quality energy forward"

i'm not gonna sit here and completly bash MAB floating on the 4th again because this game (although only 1 game) should have shown first hand what ive been trying to get across all along about the kind of players we need vs MAB on the PP point. white and trotter might not have scored tonight (but darche did :P ) like MAB has on occasion but they are very much responsible for this win as well as the rest of the group.

    the powerplay

the habs biggest problem tonight on the PP was gaining the zone and setting up..... spacek's biggest problem was being scared to pull the trigger.... on that 5-3 for example everytime marky passed it to him he'd stop the puck first.... he's gotta fire that slapper on the 1-timer or we need to find another lefty who will!!

  11. What makes you say this?

Price has played his best when he was the undisputed number 1. He was amazing i his rookie year after he got rid of Huet, then awesome in the first round. He faltered against Philly, but whatever, hes a rookie. The next year he started off strong then got injured and Halak had to step in. When Price returned he wasn't quite where he had left off a he suddenly found himself in a goalie controversy.

Halak may thrive off the competition and need to be pushed by Price, but I don't think Carey is the same way. He seems to do better when he is alone at the top, and i think if we end up trading Halak then Price will pick his game back up.

meaning what's best for montreal is that we keep both goalies til at least next years deadline!

  12. Not Edmonton, look to Dallas.

Price Sk and Lapierre for Ott and Benn.

Clutterbuck ran 2 Dallas players and Ott beat the heck out him 2 times for doing so. That's what the habs need pronto.

holy sh*T!!! i dont want u as my GM!

no morrow? or neal? price alone is worth more on the market then ott and benn on potential alone... and Sk's ceiling for a career 3rd liner (a helluva good one but a 3rd liner none the same) as well as you throwing in laps a young 3rd line center to??

i dont care what anyone says the team who gets the best player always wins the trade... out of our roster moving forward we should look to move our spares in a package.... anyone of d'agostini, lapierre ,darche, MAB, metro, mara, spacek, weber and any AHL er not named subban, trott's or pacioretty for 1 major piece who is signed on to a contract already!!...

plex can be moved if we cant resign him prior to the deadline but WE must destroy in that deal..... plex for ott a good young rookie/sophmore nhl prospect and there #1 or maybe 2nd is much better then the deal stated above and im being kind considering the deals i,ve seen in the past on dealine day for ufa rentals!.

are we dreaming??? if burke can dump blake and toskala for giguere and put to gether basically white and hagman for dion then im sure gainey can work something out with the above mentioned players!

  13. a) camm will play wing on the habs... forget anyone penciling him in at C

    b) if we did trade with EDM im almost positive 2 of brule / gagner and cogliano would be on the way... iwould loveeee eberle but that's wishful thinking if not there #1 pick although they might want to lottery protect it. ethan moreau??? no thanks... maybe brendan morrow from dallas!!

    c) hemsky would be a sideways move!!.

    d) SK is not going anywhere and that includes the KHL. he will flourish over the next 20 games given huge responsibilities and a sense of worth playing on the top line with no leash!!

e)PRICE NEEDS HALAK... hopefully halak stays and mtl continues to give him the starts convincing him to sign on 1 more year giving price 2 more years developing as his back up.. if he unsurps him then eevryone's happy and we make the right decision...

f)subban is a habs next year.... he wont be fighting anyone for a spot....

    g) carle's shoulder is a big question mark going into next season and forget maxwell, weber

on a final note: as everyone questions our depth i continue with a little hope.... we have had considerable injuries all season and yet as of today we are in 7TH mind you with more games played. with that said maybe we do have some depth upfront.......

  14. Speaking from experience (I've torn my ACL before), you can stand up within a couple minutes of the injury (I tried to as soon as I went down but as you noted simply couldn't); heck, I tried to play through it (something I don't recommend in hindsight). :) The report I saw was that it was an ACL tear, here's hoping it was wrong.

i cringed when he went down!!! feeling his pain... i just hope it wasnt fully torn as his game will never be the same again

  15. I know what you're saying, but gee, hab29, you're a bit of a tough nut. You get a hulking PPG C with a Cup ring who is capable of dominating on any given shift (and French to boot), you're going to have to give that guy a ridiculous contract. That's the New NHL. Personally I'd rather we overpay for Vinny than for Gomez, know what I mean?

all the gomez bashing.... wow! guy has been our best playmaker since his return from that groin injury end of november .... had instint chemistry with pouliot who is dazzling right now..... not to mention all the major blows to our top line!!

that guys all over the league have great respect for his ability... roenick was quoted at being shocked gomez was snubbed from the US olympics... pouliot sent him all kinds of props for his abilities and camm's and gio wouldnt even have thought about coming to the habs without him here already.... that said you cant blame him for scoring a fat contract pre lockout after helping NJ to all the success they've had....

lets be frank, gomez is NOT the problem nor is anyone on the top 2 lines. the habs are 2 lines deep which is exactly why we are treading water.... we have metro and moen for the fourth line and no 3rd line center or wingers for that matter!!!

when is AK's return?? it's gotta be a month now??? hopefully he and sergei can do something with plex to kind of nullify camm's (hope the key word) injury. i hope it's not a full rupture cause he'll never be the same

we need to fix the 3rd and fourth lines...

  16. Not sure that Price/Pleks for Vinny is 'desperation,' but I completely agree that if we move young talent or picks for old geezers to help us NOW, Gainey has totally lost the plot.

I've said this for some time. We HAVE to be in a discreet rebuilding phase here, hoarding what youth and picks we can while this new core tides us over. This is the decisive test: will Bob blink for penny-ante gains right now, or will he do what is right for the organization going forward and stand pat/sell at the deadline? If he moves significant picks or young players for those broken-down vets, he should be fired. Period.

the rumblings in the stands at copps is that maxwell was called up to test his development... directly related to the resigning of plex.....

also, weber is being showcased as a young puck moving defencemen prospect to be included in a deal....
