  1. 1) Remember how he made our powerplay respectable BEFORE Markov came back, something Spacek couldn't do.

    2) I watch every single game, and obviously I have seen Dag, Pac, and BGL play way more than you. You still haven't answered who you would replace him with.

    g-g-p

    ak-p-c-

    sk-l-d

    moen-metro-white

-a line that checks, hits, and can change the tempo in our favour..

-pacioretty can come in to but is better off playing first line minutes in hamilton

-they sent d'agostini down and he's still way better then MAB at 4th line duties

-BGL is in the same category as MAB when playing forward they both stink. the only reason BGL is fired is because he wont fight where as MAB is still on the point.

obviously with AK out of the lineup & d'ago/ pac sent down were handcuffed but come his return who comes out of the lineup? darche? would that be fair considering he's played excellent on each line he's played on.

MAB is NOT a long term roster player on the habs simple as that!!

    there's no way he's excepting 750 again

you really think MAB is better then Dago & pac??

  2. First of all I disagree completely that Spacek would be better on the PP, he had his chance, the result was we had to sign MAB.

Second is who do you plan to have replace MAB on the fourth line? He obviously brings much more to the table than anyone else we have tried there.

FIRST) MAB was signed 2 weeks into the season when our PP was in dissarray after the loss to relying on markov so much.

spacek has shown in multiple seasons that he can preform on PP and can flourish with his left handed shot and marky on the right.

spacek gets zero minutes with markov on the right point so can u compare? he has not had his chance with marky as he was first signed to do.

second) MAB is on the fourth line because he cant play d.... you clearly watch zero habs games if you think he brings more to the table on the fourth line then any one else.

  3. Spacek has been one of the (if not THE biggest disappointment) from all the off season acquisitions made by Bob. The Guy can't get a shot on net from the point...Oh sorry, my bad, he actually had one against the Rangers on Saturday...I thikn it was the first time in a month he actually managed to get a shot on net!

Like I've said before, MAB is a liability defensively speaking, but he's doing stuff on the PP that Spacek hasn't been able to do. Added bonus...he costs 4 times less than Spacek!

our hasnt been given an oppurtunity to do. as MAB has been almost exclusive on the right point.

  4. im aware of the salary cap and am also aware that more then 1/2 the league is over/under paid.

salary is the business side of hockey & i cant be bothered ... all i know is im tired of these "convert the defensemen to forward" shinanigans. MAB is not a top 6 defensemen. or a top 12 forward for that matter. he is a big shot at the point and liability 5 on 5. for 750 we can keep him in the press box in case of another "emergency" and dress a real forward! spacek once again is more then capable pairing up with marky on the 1st PP unit

  5. MAB makes 1/6 his salary because he had no job & no takers!!! that's everybody"s fall back... salary! guess what? i'm a fan and can give a hoots as$$ about salary. i'll leave salaries to the molson's to worry about.

like i said its everyone's classic scapegoat

  6.

Bulis, this may be the best post you have ever made.

This is EXACTLY the point! Choosing Halak over Price right now is a decision based on a gamble.

Fans make this decision easily because they have ZERO stake. If they are wrong, they either lie and say they never said it

or they say...oops, I was wrong. No skin off their ass either way.

Choosing Theodore was the proper choice. You don't trade away an asset who AT THE TIME was superior to Vokoun and had a better resume.

He won an MVP award before his career derailed. Theo had been outstanding leading Canada to a World Junior Championship and in their second

AHL season (1997-98) his numbers were superior to Vokoun's. (2.85 GAA to 3.11 and .918 SV% to .907).

They were also the same age, so it differs slightly than Price/Halak right now.

The francophone kid with the better pedigree and better stats was the right choice. Then and NOW, anything else is revisionist history.

Right now, everybody is comparing Halak to Price as though they are both 24 years old. Halak has been a .500 goaltender against teams

above .500 in his career. Price has every accolade you can win before entering the NHL, his numbers historically are unmatched for his age

and he is showing signs of inconsistency like EVERY 22 year old goaltender in history. Go take a look at the immortal Martin Brodeur's SV% at the

age of 22 on a Stanley Cup champion team (it is .902 for those to lazy). Go gander at Roberto Luongo's .915 and 2.77 GAA at the age of 22,

not so far removed from Price's .913 and 2.73 is it.

The discussion is absurd. You do not trade Price right now. Not one person on this board knows how this is going to turn out, but you make your

decision based on the info you have collected to this point. Like it or not, that info points to Carey Price. You don't base decisions on hunches or

fear that last time it didn't work out. You use the info in front of you. Until Halak beats the Washington/Pittsburgh/Chicago's of the leagues

or offers up something better than a .903 SV%, he is a QUESTION MARK, not the sure thing he is made out to be.

For every Vokoun and Kiprusoff, there are 10-20 Martin Gerber, Martin Biron and Vesa Toskala's.

    AMEN

wamsley put this sh*t to bed finally........

Halak needs to become a world beater to unearth what price has accomplished already at this tender age.

  7. come on wamsley..... every single part of this team has drastically improved since his hiring in what 6 seasons... we were unlucky against philly as we made biron look like a world beater. 1 koivu eye later and we blow a 2 game lead and crumble as well as our first ever eastern conference championship. post wales conference.

not to mention 3 calder finals 2 of them victories... the bulldogs are sitting in 1st in there divsion and a couple off the conference with so many kids up or being used by the big club.

gainey's done good. if u reverse some bad moves we could be the cream of the crop already but the habs stock continues to rise and will continue in his next 5 seasons

  8. what i cant't understand is how anyone who truly follow the habs can be a fan of MAB. i've watched every single game this season... not the highlights.... every game.

as good as he plays on the PP he is equally bad if not worse at 5 on 5.

i appreciate his contribution to the PP his 9 pp goals and was extremely happy when he scored the game tieing goal against atl and then won it in OT when he crashed the net.... yes he has 28 pts blah blah blah.

BUT, he is a horrible defensemen. and if someone says he's a decent 4th liner my rebutal is dandenault is not a 4th liner, neither was streit, and MAB sure as hell isnt either.

there is a reason he wasnt signed by anyone at season's start.

markov has proven time and time again he can be successful with whoever he plays with on that point.... souray, streit, schneider , MAB.

spacek preformed excellent for BUF last year as their PP guy & gainey went out and got him to replace schneider. give him some 1st unit time with marky and you'll see....

if we want to contend this guy should not be around... that's my outlook

  9. That's what you got from my post? That we should all agree Gainey is perfect? My point is there's middle ground on Gainey's performance. It's just not supporters and haters. Just like the Halak/Price debate.

    agreed1

gainey has made good moves as well as terrible ones.

he's been fair as well as selfish.

he's shown that he can be laid back as well as cut throat which is what i want in a GM.

in the end, i believe every GM in the league has done a little of both good and bad moves.

moving forward, we have a better on ice product , farm system and organization since his hiring.....

  10. i've been reading posts for 5 yrs and i have never in the easy 50,000 posts i've read seen 1 single guy(jackp) lobby for a player (halak) then he does. countless posts lobbying for halak while all the while stating he'd be happy if price took the reins to!!

b.s. i 'm starting to think he's not allen walsh or jack todd but jaroslav halak himself !!!

  11. that's what i mean about overrated and inflated. yes he has 12 pts. 1 OT goal to win it which i mentioned earlier, he had the 1st assist on laraque's goal which i believe should of been unassisted considering bergeron played no part in that goal.

    his 10 pp points consist of 6 2nd assists 1G & 3 first assists.

he has 1 goal in his last 15 games and if u take out the 2 goal performance its like 25....

i know he's french canadian and all but when the goals stop coming who will be the first to throw him under the bus like brisbois.

by the way 2nd assists are meaningless and should be stricken from point totals in imho

  12. u want to beat the pens? or the caps? or the devils? never mind beat... compete? then he's got to go.

like i said ... he's a horrible defensemen & brings nothing to a 4th line that is suppose to bring energy...

he has done good on the pp but nothing in his last 20 games. i'm pretty sure we were sitting in like 19th on thee pp till marky's return and that huge run on our 7 game road trip propelled us to 1st. we had an above avg pp last year till schneider came and boom it was like 3rd by seasons end. the year b4 that we were #1 (markov/striet)and the yr b4 that #1 (markov/ souray)

spacek was signed for this role and given a chance with markov will do just as good.

  13. not a single person on this site including me would of penciled us in 8th spot with all of markov, gionta, gill, obyrne, kostitsyn and gomez/ hammer missing considerable amounts of games played.

as well as SK's demotion and recall only to be hurt with his brother simultaneously with the return of gionta & markov. we sould be battling in the basement but are as of today sitting infact in 8th. we just out played the New Jersey devils for 6o minutes and sh&t pumped the rangers with some good old fashion revenge.

hail halak and praise price cause there both are guys this year. and may the hottest hand lead us to glory!!

hoping Ak comes back just as he left off hoottt! and our defence finds balance.

pouliot continues his rennaissance and we position ourselves for a run... cause i for one always believe we have a chance. just watch that miracle of 93 to understand

  14. really though.....

halak is not the key, neither is price. goaltending is NOT the problem with montreal in this first half of the season.

Health, health & health. montreal is not deep and if we are to succed we need to STAY healthy. our defence is pretty much there now we wait for AK and see what happens.

we have played 2 games with our optimal lineup and i think we can win consistently with either of price or halak as long as were healthy... halak however, is giving us the added option of stealing a game on his own.

  15. actually

    gio-gom-pou

    sk-plex-camm

    max-lap- darche

    moen-metro- pylon aka MAB

when AK returns he will replace his bro who will replace maxwell. d'ago will return from his stint and if not dealt will replace darche

then hopefully 1 of white or darche sticks on the 4th and we'll be going in the playoffs with

    gio-gom-pou

    ak-plex-camm

    Sk- lap- d'ago

    **white- metro-moen

**replace with pacio if he can find form and succeed in short term with hamilton or darche if he continues to play at a level like these first 2 games

  16. Haha ok just to clarify, you do not have to get a point to get an increase in +/- just be on the ice when a goal is scored.

I still prefer Berg on the PP, and 4th line duties. SK, no thanks to the PP.

just so u know SK ran the right point for like 3 seasons in london. no thanks???

no thanks maybe after he's tried and failed in the nhl on the pp.

but he was highly successfull in junior in that role.

i vote spacek on first unit with markov and SK with hammer on the 2nd. bergeron in the press box taking notes on how to play defence in the NHL from the defencemen on both teams

  17. Um, what are you talking about? If powerplay points counted toward +/-, then Bergeron's 20 powerplay points would be a positive 20. -9 plus 20 is 11.

meaning 28 points on the powerplay if i thought they were included in +/- would make him -37 at even strength. hence him sucking bad! but whatever the point is he reeks of fish!

as for markov.... we were not even close to being capapable on the pp until markov returned and we went something like 14 of 18 to sky rocket us to 1st in the league on the pp. i didnt say markov was the reason to MAB's success on the pp. he was wiring them in b4 marky was back but MAB has clearly cooled off since. he's got 1 goal on the pp in his last 15 games & if u take out the 2 he scored on atl more then a month ago he's got 1 G in 25.

put into "perspective" he has 9 PP goals. he scored 2 of them in his first 3 starts and had another 2 games with multiple goals = 6. he's scored 1 every 5/6 games since plus the game winner in OT on that 2on 1 when he crashed the net.

his powerplay exploits are overrated if not inflated to say the least and i just dont think the pro's to him dressing to play the point on the pp are enough to have us be a player short the rest of the game. he sucks and going forward if we want to compete for Lord Stanley in the future he will and has no part in it.

he was a short term fix and now that we have marky back we can move forward with spacek and SK

  18. u learn something new every day on this site.... ha ha ( reading my wording i see how u would of thought that)

well if his 28 points on the PP were included that would mean he has a -37... making him not even worthy of playing in our local beer league

but spacek has been given zero time with markov... who is clearly the key to this PP.

p.s MAB is nowhere near the reason we are fighting for a playoff spot rather then a lottery pick.

  19. i have clear opinions of my beloved habs...

when souray bounced most on this thread thought our PP was screwed. then striet comes along and 1 ups souray... he leaves and were up sh&ts creek right? no, schneider comes in & finally picks up were streit left off. fast forward to today and bergeron who brings absolutly nothing to the team except turnovers bad defence and a booming shot at the point. your telling me he is worthy of a roster spot??? clearly montreals PP system which was #1/2 over the last 3/4 seasons is not because of MAB... anyone of hammer, spacek, camm, SK, can play that right side with a left shot. MAB is not a good player and we are a very vulnerable team with him in our top 6 pairings. i also am not a fan of defensemen playing in forward roles.

i'm not complaining.... i never do.....

my perspective is let AK come back lets play 20 games with a complete lineup & put MAB in the press box

use markov/ spacek on the point for the first unit as originally planned in the start of the season and try hammer/ SK on the 2nd unit....

    MAB succkkkkssss a$$!

    MAB = 10G 18A 28pts -9

99% of his points are on the PP yet he still sports a minus 9
