Available this October, it should be better than the broadcast version as it has extra scenes and less time constraints...also more swearing I would guess. http://www.amazon.ca/Canada-Russia-72/dp/B...6420055?ie=UTF8
  3. "CANADA-RUSSIA 72" SERIES TO BE RE-BROADCAST *September 27-28, 2006 at 8:00 pm EST on CBC for those who missed it the first time or for others who want to watch it again
  4. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=170211&hubname=nhl would have liked at least Chara as a habs. Savard would have been nice too. That is fast. Wonder if that's legal to have talked before the deadline.
  5. Bertuzzi to Florida for Luongo Others involved as well
  6. I agree that the Habs are a team moving up. Gainey has done an outstanding job building this team and he has proven he is not afraid to make the big move if needed (Kovalev, Theodore). From these playoffs you can see how good Pleks will be. You can also see how poor Ribs is. It's also plain to see we need more offense, where as the D is in fine form with the style brought in by Gainey and Carbs. Gainey will do his best to find offense, hopefully both at forawrd and from the D. :hlogo: GO HABS GO. The future is exciting! :hlogo:
  7. Hey at least some one at CBC was smart enough to wake up and notice that broadcasting it last week, as originally sheduled, was a boo boo. You had both the Juno's and The Final Four.
  8. Edmonton Sun Today "Although I couldn't get the hero of the 1972 Series Paul Henderson on the phone, I did connect with Yvan Cournoyer. Dubbed "the Road Runner" for his blazing speed on skates, Cournoyer scored the tying goal before assisting on Henderson's series-winning goal in Game 8 in Russia. In fact, that famous photo of Henderson leaping into Cournoyer's arms immediately after the goal has come to represent the Series. Cournoyer viewed the CBC miniseries Canada Russia '72 at a special screening last week at the Hockey Hall of Fame. He found the movie accurate - except for one scene. "And that was when people was booing us in Vancouver before the game," Cournoyer said, over the telephone from Montreal, adding that didn't actually happen. "But the rest was pretty good. It's a movie," he laughed. "It's a little different to see somebody else play yourself. But the people who did the movie are pretty good. The guys who played Ken Dryden, the coach, the assistant coach, (Alan) Eagleson." The actor portraying Cournoyer didn't command huge scenes in the four-hour miniseries. Explained director T.W. Peacocke: "All Cournoyer did was show up in great shape, play really hard and never complain. And that's just dramatically not that interesting. The more interesting characters were the ones like Vic Hadfield, who bolted from the team." Now in his early 60s, Cournoyer works for the Montreal Canadiens as an ambassador. So how does the Summit Series measure up against the former habs captain's 10 Stanley Cups? "If you have both the Series 72 and the Stanley Cup, it's the ultimate of hockey. I think the Cup is a repeat (opportunity) but Series 72, if you miss, you could never duplicate it. So it was important back then that we win," he explained. Before I let the Hall of Famer go, I had to ask if he knew how badly announcer Foster Hewitt mangled his name during the Series. "Oh, I knew that," he said quickly, and then paused. "Hewitt couldn't say Cournoyer on the air - but he had no problem saying Courvosier in the bar when asking for cognac." "

  10. Did the Jim Richards Show on CFRB tonight. Had a ton of fun during the hour. "Off The Record" yesterday. Everyone in Toronto can catch a quick interview Friday morning on Jazz F.M. 91.1 @ 8:30 A.M.
  11. If you are old enough to remember watching the Summit Series in 1972, or at the very least, understand the significance of the first meeting between NHLers and the world's best international team from the Soviet Union, then the CBC's Canada Russia '72 is a must-see. All in all, the two-part movie, which airs on CBC April 9 and 10, illustrates the frustrations of a hockey nation facing up to the reality that it doesn't own the game, nor does it necessarily play it better than the rest of the world. The Summit Series is a turning point in hockey and while you may be sick and tired of hearing about it, the behind-the-scenes insights make this a very worthwhile project. 13. "Canada Russia 72" mini-series will be on this Sunday and Monday (April 9,10) on CBC from 8-10 P.M. "Canada-Russia '72 is one of the great triumphs in Canadian television". Toronto Star http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...&StarSource=RSS Sorry, I had to share this with my friends on HABSWORLD. And it really is good...I don't just say that cause I was involved. Some of the best hockey action I have ever seen on film. The attention to detail is unbelievable, the stories behind the scenes are fascinating. Even the music is cool.
  14. Joe Pelletier has a terrific site (1972Summitseries.com) that is all 72 and he is covering the movie as well. Lots of links to articles/reviews and other info. http://www.1972summitseries.com/canadarussia72movie.html http://www.1972summitseries.com/index.html

  17. If you had a vote, and had to vote now, who would be the Habs MVP? For sure Gainey and Co. have done a miraculous job of reinventing the team to a fast aggressive group, but afraid we can't vote for the coach. :king: My vote would be for Huet. He has turned the team around and given them confidence. :king:
  18. The Habs certainly played very well last night...very UNlucky that they didn't win. They had that jump again, looked organized. Kovalev especially was outstanding. I agree, they look like they've turned a corner. I look forward to the remainder of the year.
  19. With all the talk about Komi playing better, the Habs finally hitting...it got me wondering about ex-coach Rick Green and his style of play. He was a well positioned defensive defenseman. And, here's the good part, he wasn't exactly a banger. So, with Green gone, are our young defensemen finally working with someone a little more agressive, both offensively, and checking? Hmmmmm...........
  20. My point was Gainey's moves had a purpose in terms of how he thought the team should be made up for the New NHL. Fergies moves were staus quo moves at best. Older players who just replaced other older guys who had moved on. Not really much of a shot at the New game
  21. Forgot to add.... Another part the GMs had to guess at was factoring in the year off from the NHL. Some players played, other did not while still others played but in lousy leagues. Lots of guess work this year and in the end a CRAP SHOOT. No wonder a team like Carolina comes out of nowhere to be a top team. Again, at least Gainey roled the dice. He will adjust and correct now that things have settled and will have the Habs very competitive in time.
  22. Sorry Strummerman but I wrote this Saturday before the game. I don't jump off and on the bandwagon
