Allen  is not and should not

he considered the answer though. Not sure if he is even durable enough to be considered even a backup anymore.

He's not the long term answer for sure but as a likable low ego vet to help young goalies transition to be starter? Sure.

It's hard to imagine he will get overpaid.

Plus if the contracts too long... he goes on waivers and mediocre goalies are always getting claimed.

Man was looking at cap friendly and their must be like  over 10 teams that are over the cap. Never seen anything like this before. A lot of trades to come before the start of the season for sure.

Lots of LTIR screwery going on too.

I kinda wish capfriendly would just have a *assuming folks are on ltir* tab. Instead of having to go into armchair gm and move everything around.

on another note, I was looking at the lineup suggested by Cap Friendly. What do you think of this lineup to start the season?

I would swap Dadonov with Hoffman and Play Shueneman instead of of one of the rookies.

things I noticed with Hoffman's stats is he had the lowest Sh% of his career (minus his last year in Ottawa which... Let's just say he was distracted lol). Also he had the lowest offensive zone start time % of his career.

Maybe we st Louis can change his usage a bit to up his value. Maybe a Drouin-???-Hoffman lineup and give them offensive zone starts?

But, is Anderson the type of player who can ever just hang back, top of circle and wait for a one-timer set-up? Like Ovi or Stamkos and the like do, with obvious success.

He's probably more useful smashing defenseman in the boards and passing to another one timer guy. Maybe he can work on his saucer.

Somehow I think that if it was easy EVERY player in the NHL would be doing it.

Considering his advanced stats indicate he is one of the worst passers in the league... Any improvement would likely help 😛

On GHT120's comment, I meant a one-timer is a possibly more approachable skill to improve through repetition than something like "defensive awareness" or passing/vision. Both major weaknesses of his that would require a lot of work.

In my brain I was thinking him battling on the boards boards, passing it around the boards than drifting back out to the hashmarks. Just a play you could see happening every game. I'm not saying it would define his offensive strategy.

You are so right. A limited player, but as you say, so much damned fun to watch that I find it hard to be too critical of him. And he does bring some value. If you’re the other team, you worry that he might be on his game any particular night, because he is basically unstoppable when that afterburner kicks in.

If he ever does add another element or two to his arsenal, that could make the difference between 35 and 50 points, between being an entertaining “bonus” versus being a real impact player. It was interesting to hear him talk about how MSL wanted him to develop other aspects of his game…that seemed to be a new idea to him. He’s probably too old to really do it, but it’s an intriguing thought.

I feel adding a one-timer wouldn't be the hardest dimension to add? I feel adding defense won't happen so might as well diversify his offensive threat in the cycle?

  6. 4 hours ago, BCHabnut said:

Anderson has one move. Fire up the afterburner and power past or through everything in his path. Scare the shit out of the goalie and shoot in close. Not knocking it. It's fun to watch. I just haven't seem much else as far as shooting goes.

That's all I see... but it would be easy to forget him doing other things because when he does that it's so exciting hahaha

Sorry to say i agree, seems Anderson goes into boards like a bull and often banged up and i think St Louis has mentioned he can slow down and not give-er 110% all the time.

But, when Anderson is on, he is a fun player to watch.

I would like to see Gallagher firing the puck alot more.

    e.g.

    21-22- 2.53 shots/gm

    20-21- 3.02shots/gm

    19-20- 3.83shots/gm

Since we are talking about shooting... Does Anderson have a one timer? My brain tells me no but it seems like he should?

I said it was HYPERBOLIC (i.e., greatly exaggerated) ... the point was simply that asking a player to not do what they do best will significantly impact their performance ... Gallagher as a perimeter player is useless IMO.

On rereading my response seemed oddly rude. Sorry. But there's room between perimeter player and netfront presence. I think he can find a position hovering nearby the crease without needing to take as many cross checks to the hips and back.

  9. 5 hours ago, GHT120 said:

But a large part of his production comes from the "net front duty" ... I fear it would almost be as if back in the day someone told Shaq he needed to shoot more threes to avoid some of the pounding he took near the hoop (his 3-pt shooting percentage was 0.045 going 1 for 22).

NOTE: the example is intentionally hyperbolic, but conceptually sound IMO ... moving away from the net would IMO greatly reduce his effectiveness/production/value.

No it's a terrible comparison tbh. Gally can already shoot and be a threat not in front of the net. It's not learning a new skill... He has the skill already. He doesn't have to be the dedicated net front presence to go to the net and be a problem down low.

All those ______hockeynow sites are clickbait and I dont know the montreal guy well but Dater, DK in pitt, and jimmy murphy in boston are like an all star list of the worst beat writers from each team.

It just popped up on Google's suggested articles. Annoying how terrible websites pay to be featured -.-

For what it’s worth, 2 tweets saying a 1st round pick is compensation, likely using the same source.

It’s interesting Engels is saying this may be apart of another deal.  Anyone have any rumours on what that may or may not be?

No rumors but I feel the Islanders might be eager to pick up a forward from us after missing on Kadri?

Another thing is we could see this pick being flipped with say Hoffmann to say Anaheim as a cap dump?

I expect Ylonen to start in Montreal. I would not be surprised is Barron starts in Montreal too, although I would prefer him to start in Laval

this is my back of the envelop, potatohead, best guess:

    HarveyPinard-Schnarr-Belzile
    Teasdale-Stephens-Francis
    Gignac-Hillis-Martel
Simoneau, Abbandonato, Beaudin, Condotta, Richard, G.Bourque, Fortin, Beauregard, K.Roy, Saulnier, Poiririer

    Fairbrother-Barron
    Harris-Dello
    Norlinder-Bowey
    Galipeau, Centorame, Green

    Primeau, Poulin

    Is Mysak not coming over?

  13. Reading a lot of stories about Jake Allen and Vegas. Seems illogical imo for both sides.

There has to be a more reliable option for Vegas than a sub par starter with extensive injury history. They honestly can't want a guy who is injured as frequently as Allen.

Then for Montreal... I'm just assuming Price is basically done and they want Primeau to get AHL starts. So Allen-Monty tandem is it. Unless we get like Huchinson back and feel like rolling Monty-Huch for the tank.

  14. @Commandant do you have any statistical player comparisons for Farrell or Roy? I know you've used player production at lower levels as reference for later production before ie:McCarron never producing.

I'm excited about these two but given their weird trajectories or playing the extra USHL year I'm not sure where to peg my expectations.

Hyman isnt a bad player.  I think they will regret the contract though.  Its a little too pricey.

Smith has been great in the playoffs so far but hes 39 and he cant keep up this pace.  They really could have used a quality 1b with him.  Koskinen aint it.

Kane (on the ice) has been a great pickup.  He can play.  Off ice is always the issue.

    Problems with the oilers though...

How do they pay Puljujarvi this summer.  Prime offer sheet candidate with their cap mess (not Habs but a team who isny expecting a top pick in 2023).

The bottom 6 forwards are hot garbage.

    Kassians contract.... woof

    That defence...

    Duncan keith....woof... washed up

    Cody Ceci..... ouch

    Kris Russell.... yikes.

    Calgary in 5

I think Yams gets signed over Poolparty... The guy simply doesn't have the hockey IQ to be a regular contributor from what I've seen.

Not to defend Edmonton's score but Ceci hasn't been terrible and Russell is the 7th d. Barely passed 5 minutes last night.

The whole Keith situation is brain numbing though...
