  1. Shaw is a guy the gets you through. Eller was a guy that got us there but did not get us there last year, that was the reason for the trade. Eller and Shaw have similar cap hits.

Shaw will be a major pest along with Gallagher in the playoffs.

  2. So it is starting to seem like Kreider probably has shortened Price's career. As a former goalie I have an idea what he is going through. Welcome to bad knees Carey. I feel mine 24/7, blew the right out in my mid 30's stopping a two man breakaway. The left hasn't been right since my teens. The only thing you can do is play through the pain until you can't take it anymore and hang up the pads. Kreider =Samuelson.

He is not "on vacation". Wish he was. He has a knee that will cause him pain for life. If I skate on mine it is swollen for a week. I tore it up 15 years ago.

I'm sure the pain you go through is horrible but I bet Carey has received much better medical attention, I'm not sure its a knee but even if it is Carey will be fine. I need to be super positive.

  3. Price is just on vacation. Let him enjoy some time off during this now meaningless time of year.

Habs are a playoff team, that's a guarantee. The true test is how healthy they can be in the play-offs and can they win 16 game between mid April and June.

  4. Jim Nill is a one crafty politician.

That quote is amazing, really threw me for a loop.

Might be some weight to the beaulieu Eller for yakapov petry rumour

    Hope not.

    Emelin's days are numbered

I kind of get that feeling as well.

Yow, now there is a curve-ball!

One thing Gonchar is not and never was: an Emelin. If this move is meant to eventually replace him on our blueline, it truly is a blunder of historic proportions.

That's for sure, Tinordi must be in if Emelin is out.

Emelin has value in a trade and Tinordi can do what Emelin does. Everyone thinks this trade is about M.B not having faith in the kids, I think its the exact opposite. I'm feeling like a core player (Emelin) is getting moved and Tinordi will fill his spot. Gonchar will be a veteran depth signing that never suits up. Just an Insurance policy

Would be interesting to see what Emelin is worth with his cap number.

got that right. if gonchar plays ahead of the kids for even one shift it is moronic! he was washed up when pittsburhg kicked him to the curb nearly 5 years ago. if he was a top six dman yopu would not get him for a washed up healthy scratch fourth liner.

like radio caller said earlier........if gonchar plays its a old leaf like trade. anything not to develope your own dmen.

i am seriously hoping this is a purely garbage for garbage depth move. with what the habs have now on d gonchar would be the no 8 man. if he becomes the no 6 man .....

did they learn nothing from kabby?

if he plays ahead of the kids shame on MB

I agree that it's a shame for 28 and 24 whom I feel should both be playing now over 43 and 55.

yes there simply has to be morte to the trade....................if not MB just made the type of move that Gautier was raked over the coals for. first thing i thought of when i heard it........spacek for kabby...... but atleast kabby was not going to get put in front of two great young dman that should be in here DEVELOPING

iif thats the case i hope they both ask for trades.

That would be very silly of them.

Habs own their rights for a long time to come, RFA years.

*Gilbert, Markov, Subban, Beaulieu, Gonchar? Which of these plays well in their own zone?

What do you mean by play well on their own zone?

If you mean throw the body well I would argue, but if your asking who can win puck battles and get the puck out I would say 77, 76, 79 all do that very well. Gonchar I can't comment as I have watched little of Dallas last year and this.

  5. are you kidding me? he was an offensive dynamo on the back end in pitts no doubt about it..... ok they had crosby, malkin and company but he still he put up over 50 pts in each season there including 2 x +60 point seasons, obviously minus his injured season..

im intrigued to see him play 1st line minutes on the PP! he is one of very few real PP specialists in this league. in fact he and markov should run/ coach the power play not therrien and his staff

Glad to have some positivity in this thread.

Hahahah I've legitimately wondered if that would work before. I mean, Gonchar Markov are literally Russian legends on the pp.

"there is a misconception here that you dev elope kids by throwing them into the toughest league in the world unprepared"

like galchenyuk ? not a game in the minors.......

galagher.... half a season with dogs

    subban ....one season with dogs

    price....half a season with dogs

    patches......one season with dogs

    who is the misconception with?

Subban is the only D man there and he is a super star.

Trying to do too much right now but he will get it going before the end of the month.

I'd be willing to bet that Tinordi is in the Habs lineup by playoffs...

    Hope so!

I think Emelin and his $4M/year salary will be gone by January, thus bringing Tinordi back up.

    Where to?

What do you feel his value is?

The Bruins because of their injured dman have leaned on their kids and called up guys from the AHL and not only are the kids getting the job done, but they are getting great NHL experience.

I wanted Moen gone, but this is a horrible move!

I am not sure it's a horrible move but I 100% agree with you about what the Bruins are doing.

Unless you give your kids a chance to shine they will never prove they can.

I have watched lots of Bruins and Dougie Hamilton made and continues to make loads of mistakes.

Do any of you recall the out of the box Subban goal in the playoffs last year. You know who's fault that was 100%, Dougie Hamilton.

If there is another deal coming, the dman that should be moved in order of preference are Gonchar, Gilbert or Weaver. Moving Emelin makes little sense, unless Tinordi is ready to play 20 minutes a night.

Weaver would be the guy I would move.

Just spit-balling here... if the value for Gonchar at 4.6 mill is Travis Moen, what is the value of Gonchar at 2.3 mill?

Habs can retain a lot more salary than Dallas could. Just saying.

    That's an interesting thought.

Who was the last player the Habs got and sent packing right away? I feel like it happened recently.

Not sure if anyone asked the question yet, but....

If Meon is gone and Bourque is in Hamilton, whats the long-term plan for our bottom 6?

We have 11 forwards, Bowman got called up, I'm assuming to be in the bottom 6 temporarily. Is Bournival the long-term plan or one of Tinordi/Beaulieu being shopped for something in our bottom 9?

I don't mind picking up Gonchar and letting Tinordi and Beaulieu stew for another year, they aren't ready. Plus with injuries they will get playing time, just not dependant on them being good now.

I really believe they want Bournival, Tangradi and Bowman to get some serious time with the Habs this year.

If the Habs trade for a forward I would believe it would be someone with top 6 potential.

  6. Don't worry, Therrien haters are a dying breed!

All will be singing his praises come May!

    I pray your correct.

Probably if he still has a job. :)

Hahaha you believe he can be fired this year?

What do you think it would take?

i see things differently. (This is not unique to Habs fans - this is sports fans in general.)

Let's assume great things, and say the Montréal Canadiens win the Stanley Cup in 2015. (Humor me.)

-People will still be complaining about Therien if they complained before - the team will have won despite him, not because of him.

-Likewise, whichever players they hate most will still be in their doghouse. If they don't like Plekanec, 70 points and a Stanley Cup won't be enough to change their mind. If they think Desharnais is too small, it won't matter if his line catches fire in the playoffs, he'll be a passenger. If they don't think the Habs are a contender, the cup run will be a fortunate fluke, the team still sucked.

Fan negativity is usually not solved by results.

    I agree to an extent.

I however would be over the moon if the Habs won the Cup with whomever was coaching even if I disagreed with every decision he made.

With the parity in the league and 29 teams to beat every year I would give any coach that won a cup a 5-7 year cushion where I wouldn't fire him regardless of how the team preformed.

  7. I for one am very happy to see him back in the lineup. He deserves every second of ice time he has got this year. I don't believe I have even seen him take a shift off. I love his ability to compete for loose pucks, I love the way he contributes at both ends of the ice he is absolute revelation for a player many believe should be sent to Hamilton. #Foundmoney
