  1. I may not be the first post but I am the first to say Go Habs GO!!!!!

I was hoping to see Price again tonight

Brisebois is looking more and more like his old self, I think it is time to call up O'Byrne.

I think that Price should now start the Majority of the Games this year, mabie 2 to 1 over Huet. I really don't see the difference between either Goaltender as far as skill but the upside to Price playing is obvious.

Note to Gainey: find a suitable trading partner before Christmas and make a deal for a top 6 winger....please?

  2. I like Ryder and believe that he will come out of this slump. This is how pure goal-scorers operate. However, let me take this opportunity to float my preferred pet trade idea: Ryder for Sami Salo in Vancouver. Salo would give us that extra top-4 d-man we need, Ryder would give the Canuckleheads some much-needed offence...it's win-win and (I think) doable in the cap framework.

if it wasn't for the fact that Salo is consistently injured I like that deal, then I would turn around and try to get a first line winger for Huet by Christmas...done and done

  3. I actually thought the game was really boring. The habs were dominated for 2 periods but came away with 2 points. Everyone was defensively solid, i thought the effort (again) and offensive zone was poor. This needs to change, the last 2 they have looked alot like last years team.

Kovu and Higgins were excellent again, they need a winger to compliment them

Kovalev has been MIA the last 2 games

Not very physical the last 2 games.

They will need to work harder the next few games and get there game back. Hopefully it's just a lag like all teams get. They can't rely on goalies shutting people out for points.

I agree, it was a very boring game. We basically lullabied them to sleep for two points.

I think that we need a replacement for Ryder, if there is a deal out there for him I'd go for it. That top line is infinately better with real finisher.

I dont think that Lats on the top line at the end of a close defensive game is going to help anyone. I am pretty sure that Carbo was shortening his bench by benching the defensively unreliable forwards to keep the one goal lead. I like his decision.

  4. i think dandy has been good this year, he shows incredible speed and great forechecking with Begin. I like what I see with him on the wing. I think the season has been great so far, but im still pissed about that game vs toronto, it just gets me that we can play so dynamite against every time in the league EXCEPT toronto? WTF? I hate the leafs

oh man I know, I hate the leafs so much. But more importantly I hate the way we play them

  5. I think that Huet and possibly Ryder are the only significantly tradeable players on this team, with the exception of Higgins/Markov. And as much as I hate the Idea of going with two rookies in nets, trading one or both of them might be the only way that we improve offensively this season.

    However...

When I say I hate the idea of having two Rookies is nets, I am reminded of Theodore and Hackett. Jeff Hacket was by no means a great goaltender in his time with us but I seem to remember the tandem of Theo and Hackett working very well together. Theo, in my opinion, was never the same after Hackett left. He always seemed to be distracted by something other than Hockey (I always thought of Hackett as a mentor for Theo in his time here, just as I think that Huet has taken on a mentorship towards Price).

Keep in mind I also think that Price has a better head on his shoulders than Theodore ever had and he'll probably be able to figure out how to be a successful goaltender without the example of Huet professionalism. But I think that we have a good thing going here, it would be a shame to put him into the fire before he is ready. Its one thing to keep him here its another to start him for almost every game and make him the "go to guy".

Lets face it Huet just Cannot play 82 games, and Price needs to play a significant amount of games, 25-30, to make the decision to keep him up here a good one. Sounds like a good match to me, I think that we should sign Huet for one more year if he will go for it.

As for Ryder we need an upgrade....a real Threat on the wing...and if it takes Huet to get it? Well, lets just say that I'd want to get paid like a Gm to make those decisions. Balancing the Development of a Franchise Goaltender and the Offence we so desparately need, is not an easy decision.

sorry about the length of this post

This is just my opinion....something I noticed

  6. if you can afford it the Desjardins club seats are the best in the house, plus all of your food and beverages are included with your ticket price (excluding beer of course)

But if you really want the lower level get higher seats (that way you can see into every corner)

  7. OKay well im hitting the road soon now.

HABS FANS BE LOUD IN THERE TONIGHT

    CAREY CAREY CAREY!!!

Man I envy you guys that get to go tonight, I wont even be able to watch at all. I am going to see the Niagara Ice dogs host the london nights. (I bought tickets before I realized we were playing tonight :( )

I predict a good night for our top line, and Carey will be just fine. I hope Komi lays out Spezza with a devistating check (his arrogance gets on my nerves).

Higgins is now offically my favorite habs

  8. Garth Murray has a broken ankle... What are we gonna do? :o

I feel bad for Murray, he gave all he had against Florida. I mean the guy has been waitng to play, he finally gets a game and then breaks his ankle, tough luck.

  9. I would not make a trade like that unless Hossa was signed to a new deal. That is to much for a possible rental.

As for Koivu. I think he is a little overrated by some, and vastly underrated by others. I don't expect him to go anywhere. But ya never know. I like him.

I know thats a lot for Hossa, but in my opinion thats the kind of package thats its gonna take to get him from Atlanta before Christmas. It gives them what they got rid of for Tkachuk, and it just might save Wadells job.

I like Koivu aswell but, and i say this with much regret, he is not going to win a cup here. Not unless a major trade or UFA signing gets us a #1 center, with him as our #2. If Koivu was our number 2 we'd be a contender.

I am not calling for him to get traded, I can just see/feel it happening this year

  10. I'd try to trade Ryder + Fischer and/or Emilyn (sp) + 1st round pick and\or 2nd round pick for Hossa (heck throw in Streit{reluctantly} or Dandy or the cube{hopefully})

they get back a 30 goal scorer, decent picks and prospects, and defensive depth if they need it (i don't really know)

we get a substantial upgrade to Ryder.

anything more than this might be overpaying for him, and in my opinion he is not really what is needed anyways, we need a scoring threat down the middle. I am not saying i wouldn't welcome him. If there is one thing that last nights game has shown me is that we are still lacking finish around the net, and Hossa would bring the polish...no doubt about it.

but aside from this rumour if it could be called that

I cant help but think that Koivu's days in a Canadiens jersey are coming to and end soon. this is just my speculation but I can see him being shipped west in a package with Huet for a number one center, I am thinking of Ansie Kopitar. Los Angeles, could use Huet and some veteran help down the middle. (Although I find it hard to belive that they would trade for Huet considering thats where he came from). But Regardless where he gets shipped to i think its in the cards. I just don't know if Koivu's leadership is going to make him invaluable to this team anymore, I think that its time to pass the torch.

Does anyone else see this about Koivu?

  11. Has anyone else noticed who the Leafs have sent back to the marlies through waviers, Simon Gamache (which I hear, from a leafs fan friend of mine, had a great camp), Jay Harrison (he impressed me last year when he was called up to fill in duing injuries), and Ben Ondrus (same as Harrison).

I would think that these three players are very high on the the leafs depth chart (not saying much I know). For me it is worth claiming one of these guys just to really piss some leaf fans off. Remember how upset some of us were when Hainsey was claimed by the Jackets, Harrison is better that Hainsey for his age, and Gamache would be good for Hamilton if nothing else.

I pretty much just want to the see the leafs lose whatever prospects they have.......man I hate living in leaf country (Niagara)...man I hate the leafs.

    Go Habs Go :hlogo:

  12. I am completely suprised by these moves. Especially Price in Montreal, I don't necessarily disagree with the move, but it is not at all what I expected. However, When you really think about it, wouldn't you much rather have Price start the season with the big team than get called up half way through the season. (which I think would've happened)

He now has time to mentally prepare himself for a full year in Montreal. He can work with Melansien (sp), get to know his team mates, and not be worried about when the call is going to come or even, if he had a bad game in Hamilton, if the call was going to come at all. Management has basically told him they have confidence in his abilities as a goaltender, that could mean alot to a young kid like Price. I mean "Management" in this Case is Gainey and Carboneau, not JFJ and Maurice here. Habs management are respected people and they are going to give him a shot. thats got to say something.

Of course this could totally backfire on the poor kid. If he plays in Toronto on Saturday and gets hung out to dry by Dandenault a couple times (which happened against the pens a couple of weeks ago), the Laughs get a couple of 5 on 3's, who knows he might get shelled, then the respect of all the Managers in the league might be hard pressed to bolster this kids ego. (lets hope this doesn't happen)

I think hes got what is takes, and what better way to get aquainted with Montreal than with Huet as a veteran mentor. I think this is a good Idea/Risk.

    Go Habs GO :hlogo:

  13. I think this is great, Pekanec is a future mainstay in the habs line up. No player on the team is as versatile, well mabie Higgins. He played with Kovalev and Sammsonov for half a season and didn't complain once. He is a real team guy.

as far as Higgins, Komi, and Pekanec contracts all coming up in 2 years, I think that Gainey is going to split Kovalevs Moneys amoungst the three of them depending on how they perform. (Kovalev's contract will be done at that time)

  14. Why wouldn't Smolinski be a better first line center then Koivu. I haven't seen Koivu win any important face offs.

smolinski is not the answer for our 1st line center.....I thought that I heard Gainey say something about saving room for next off season, this is good news because not only is Marleau a UFA next summer (provided he doesn't sign this year), but Lecavalier will be going into the last year of his Contract with Tampa Bay. I can see Gainey selling the farm for Lecavalier (god knows I would), he would be the Ultimate prize for Gainey and the Habs.

I just hope that Tampa will not find a Goaltender from now to then because we have 3 Capable Tenders right now that could be used to pry Lecavalier away from Tampa. (Can you guys tell that he is my Favorite player).

I thought (daydreamed) that we could get Briere this year and then trade Koivu + Farm (excluding Price) for Lecavalier next year, with those two down the middle everyteam in the league would have to take notice of the Habs.

We would strike fear in the hearts of our opponents.....Leaf fans everywhere would start crying themselves to sleep on game nights, and we would once again be the flying frenchmen......

Having said that I am very glad that Gainey didn't pay Briere 52 mil over 8 years with a no MOVEMENT CLAUSE, that is just stupid, nobody is worth a 8 year, no movement contract (well mabie Lecavalier ;) )

In any event Go Habs Go!!!!!!!!!

  15. I'm seriously hoping Gainey stays away from Gomez, Briere, Smyth and Drury. Those guys are going to get massive dollars and never live up to the contracts.

I'd hope Gainey goes with the tier 2 free agents. Kariya might be a nice fit up front but do we need another forward?

I'd say Nylander if they are serious about a centre, but I'd concentrate on Rafalski, Preissing and Hannan. If Gainey could score one or two of them that would be quite a coup.

I would love Hannan and Rafalski as a second Pairing

  16. Well, you can bet Gainey is going to have a new contract lined up if we make a deal for Marleau.

    yeah I hope so.

I was also hopeing that the sharks would take negotiating rights for Souray as part of the deal for Marleau, but time is definatly running out on my dreams.

ie. rights to Souray plus a seond round pick next year for Marleau

  17. I would say so...he very much reminds me of Ribs. That said...with the right coach, mentor and team leadership (i.e. not lazy Russians), he could become a dominant player. Ribs became soft because a) He made the wrong friends, B- the coach did not hold him accountable for his work ethic, and c) the Montreal women got to him!

    yeah women
