  1. PM Bouchard would be nice.

i'd rather have Rolston or Koivu

we really don't need souray to be competitive... and we are never going to get as much for him as we can right now. I say Deal Him for a second line center that can score. I've said this in another forum but I would love to see Kovalev + Souray for Rolston(or Mikko Koivu) + Schultz.

    dream come true for me

we might have to throw in a pick to make this happen because of the salary differences...but MAKE IT HAPPEN

  2. I can see Souray going to Minnisota for Koivu, there has been alot of rumors between these two teams lately.....this is purely speculation.

I would love to see Souray and Kovalev for Rolston (or Koivu) and Schultz. it saves us money and we dump the enigma that is Kovalev for a scoring center to play with Samsonov next year.

the Koivu brothers would be great in montreal

  3. Kind of bored today and found this while surfing. Again consider the source. Eklund

Habs Looking for Big DealToday @ 2:52 PM ET

Here's an e1 that is good for speculation and entertainment purposes only....The Canadiens are looking around for scoring and one potential UFA is on their radar according to a source at this hour...That name is Pavel Datsyuk.

A source told me that there is "some serious exploration going on..." and noted that the Wings obviously want to keep Pavel, and likely will. However it is obvious that at this point the Habs are getting very serious.

Just please do not trade Markov!!!!

this is not what we need right now....we need a big, scoring center, not another small skilled center. I dont care who we have to give up, anything goes for the right man. (right man being under contract next year)

  4. I still say you need to bring someone in who can meet all of the following needs:

    -Offensive centre

-Much needed leadership in the dressing room

-a guy who they can build around going forward but can help the young guys now

And that leads me to the only guy out there who meets all of the above - Marleau.

I say the habs should make an offer that SJ can't say no to.

    SJ needs the following:

-clutch guy with playoff track record - Kovolev

    -Offensive defencemen - Souray

-addtional scoring to pick up slack from Cheecho - Ryder

I would also even though in Bonk or Johnson (who are UFA's anyway), and try to pry away a d-prospect like Carle.

there is no way that Bonk for Carle would happen, Bonk although playing better is old, and Carle is a future star for the San Jose Defence

  5. If Sammy is staying, i would also like to see him paired with Koivu. Maybe try these lines:

    Samsonov - Koivu - Latendresse

    Higgins - Plekanec - Kovalev

    Perezhogin - Bonk - Johnson

    Streit - Lapierre - Ryder

    Murray, Downey, Begin(IJ)

Can always swap Lats and Ryder at any point.

    works for me

  6. They will not attempt to recall him.

It is as simple as this, they are sending him down knowing that if somebody claims

him his salary is off the books and that if nobody claims him his salary does not

count against the cap. Either way it is a clear indicator that they are freeing up

    salary to make a move.

He will finish the season in Hamilton if he clears. Win/Win if you ask me.

and next year as well....poor guy, but thats the reality of the situation.

but I don't believe that they will even send him down...he is on waviers until tomorrow at 12:00 noon, after that (if he is still with the team), they can decide to either send him to the minors or to keep him in montreal. If he goes to Hamilton he will be there until the end of next year, cause montreal will not pay half his salary next year and i can't blame him, if he stays there they pay him but it doesn't count under the cap. Or they might keep him and try it out on the first line.

i just hope he is gone by tomorrow...my guess is Washington

  7. its addition by subtraction. under the cap, we simply can't afford to wait for high priced talent to suddenly materialize. this guy was turning it around (a bit), but once it became clear that he was not going to spark kovy, his salary was simply not justified. also, he's been a pain in the ass and i suspect not loved in the room. his agent said trade him, so gainey pulled the trigger on waivers. if he is taken off of waivers, gainey could simply sit around for a couple of weeks and not do anything (with extra money to spend when a deal materializes).

    Amen

I calculate that we now have roughly 4.5 mil (if Samsonov gets plucked off waviers)

  8. this is so unlike Gainey.... to react so quickly or rashly.

I mean it was only this morning that Sammy asked for a trade and 3 hours later he is on waivers?

something is not right here...either something bigger was in the works before Samsonov asked to be traded or Gainey is simply fed up with his crap, or both.

But it just seems to me to be a reactionary move instead of a proactive move by Gainey...this is not something that I am used to seeing from him.

I just hope this is part of a larger plan

  9. Wow, i log on and this is what i find -- bad news about Sammy.

This instability isn't good. Hope it gets resolved soon, one way or another.

totaly agree the team is barely holding it together as it is, i really hope that this isn't as huge a distraction to them as it is to me.

on the other hand it might be just what the doctor ordered, this team went through alot last year and mabie Sammy was just not fitting in personality wise with the other players

  10. Yeah,

he'll be picked up FOR SURE.

I hope its cuz Gainey is preparing for something big (Forsberg) because Im sure we couldve gotten SOMETHING for Samsonov.

I am not so sure man.....3.5 mil is a lot for 7 goals in 52 games

  11. Kopitar would have been a good choice... yes. better than Brule, and Bourdon etc...

    but better than Price?

better than the next "Patrick Roy / Martin Brodeur" ?

nah, Only Sidney Crosby is a better choice...

In fact, my ranking for the 2005 draft, with insight, would be the following:

    1. Sidney Crosby

    2. Carey Price

    3. Anze Kopitar

    4. Jack Johnson

    5. Guillaume Latendresse (;) )

Sammy, Perezhogin and Plekanek for Jokinen and a spare Jock strap...

minus the jock strap that might actually work....

I just don't know what we need more a first line center or a future great Goalie.....

I'd almost rather we only get back smolinski and hten we make another trade, just so in losing Sammy and his salary, we don't also pick up someone else with a big fat salary that negates signing souray/markov (both????) in the off-season...

If we traded away sammy for Smolinski, then turned around and traded away Souray for Jokinen (plus antoher prospect / pick they'd want ) I would be MORE THAN happy... Is this asking too much?

just a little...but we can dream cant we

  12. I can see Sammy going to Chicago but I really hope that we get more back than just smolinski, please oh god we need a puck moving defenceman.

that way we can deal Souray for the 1st/2nd line center that we need

  13. JOKINEN JOKINEN JOKINEN......please God, let it be so..

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or even better Anise Kopitar from the Kings.....Souray and ryder for Kopitar (I wish that we would have picked him instead of Price he is awsum, plus he is slovanien just like me)

  14. Agreed that souray is mediocre at best in our own end, but on the other hand, you cant ignore his 17 goals and 40 points which is top 5 leaguewide amongst Dmen. More importantly, he is clutch. Against ottawa the other night it was souray who finally put in an accurate shot from the point when all our forwards were missing open nets. Also how many games have we seen him carry the contest by coming in from the point and ripping a shot top corner from the face off circle?

I agree with you on that point but I just think that there are more well rounded defencemen available than Souray. I know hes got the big point shot and I know that he is a team leader and the first to stick up for his captain (that was great last night by the way). But for the money he will command next year I think we can get someone that is better defensively and almost as good in the offensive categories.

don't get me wrong I think he is great and I wish that we could afford him, but I just don't see it happening. Their are more important pieces still missing to make this team a true contender.

I think a trade involving Kovalev and Abischer (sp) for a true Number one center would be ideal, thats still the biggest piece missing. We need a franchise center (Preferably french Canadian, or just Canadian, but I'd settle for Jokinen)

  15. They are both pretty important, Markov more defensively, Souray more offensively.

Remember this is a league where top level defensemen are worth their weight in gold, and the habs system is short on defensive prospects. Both these guys should be a priority.

agree with you 100%, a good defenceman is worth his weight in gold, and we aren't very deep in defensive prospects...

But there seems to be a few good defencemen like Stuart, Sopel, nick Schultz, Aucoin that could be acquired via free agency or trades, as much as we need a strong shot from the point we need a good first passing defencemen that is not a pilon in his own end even more(see Souray).

and I hazard perhaps even a Cam Barker(young and cheap) could be had in return for Souray.

Has anyone noticed that we get spanked by good forchecking teams? this is because our defense(other than Markov) can't make smart first passes under pressure so therefore they turn over the puck too much, which just makes everyone look bad. Not too mention that without those first passes out of their own end we have a really hard time generating any offence with our speed game. That is why players like Dan Boyle, Markov, and Lidstrom are so useful they can play under pressure. Souray not so much.

Sorry about the length just had alot to say ;)

  16. I wouldn't give philly anything more than a midround pick and Garth Murry for Forsberg.....but we all know that they want more than he is worth.

If they want somebody to take him then they should be the ones to sweeten the pot with a pick or prospect, nobody is stupid enough to give up their future for a broken-down rental player that will almost surely leave at the end of the year.

    I say something like:

    To Montreal:

Forsberg, R.J Umberger, mabie a 2nd/3rd round pick

    To Philly:

    Abescher, Perezhogin

this way when Forsberg walks at the end of the year at least we have something to show for our players, and Philly gets a quality netminder and a good winger...Philly can stand to lose a center anyways

  17. So. Apparently according to Gino Reda and Keith Jones Forsberg would have been a Canadien already had it not been for his latest injury (spectorshockey.net).

As to the rumours of Sammy and Rivet for Aucoin? It really does make good sense for the Habs. Replace a blueliner and rid a forward so we can put in Kosty or Grabs and save salary in the process. It's not a horrible looking trade for the Hawks either, quite honestly. Rivet has been playing poorly, but he's better than that overall and everyone knows it. He's a solid defensive defenseman with leadership. Sammy is working hard but hasn't got anything out of it because of a variety of circumstances - even Carbo admitted that much.

where are these rumors coming from...

I havent heard anything this year about Aucoin (isn't he injured right now anyway?, cause thats the last thing we need, well mabie other than another useless russian winger, that could be slightly worse...slightly)

personally I think that the Pitkanen rumor was my Favorite thus far, he's gonna be great in a year or two, he just needs a new system, with another puck moving dman like him we'd be able to get away from the apposing teams forchecking for a change.

    anyways go Habs go :wall:
