  1. From a very reliable source (NOT EKLUND); it has pretty much been confirmed that BG is looking to sign Sundin (says Doug Jarvis's son)

Not going to get into details how i heard this...but lets hope Bob inks him!

    From Canadiens.com

    http://canadiens.nhl.com/team/app/?service...rticleid=366556

OTTAWA – Sometime on Thursday night, a phone call was placed by Bob Gainey to Mats Sundin at his home in Sweden. You can bet that any player in the Habs’ dressing room would be more than happy to cover those long distance charges.

Having now secured exclusive rights from the Maple Leafs to speak to Sundin, Bob Gainey and the Canadiens will now have every opportunity to lure the coveted free agent to-be to Montreal.

While rival teams were huddled around their respective draft tables focused on the long term futures of their teams, Gainey was busy inching closer to a deal which would immediately bolster an already potent Canadiens offense.

“I got to speak to Mats late last night,” revealed Gainey of the most talked about phone call in the NHL right now. “We didn’t talk for very long. I would qualify it as an introduction, on both sides. I let him know that we believe he would be good fit for our team and that we would now have the time to get to know each other even better over the next couple of days.”

Gainey will now have an exclusive window to negotiate with Sundin, leading up to when the 37-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

“We didn’t get into any specifics yet like dollar figures,” confirmed Gainey. “Mats now knows that we have every intention of showing him why Montreal is the place for him.”

The Canadiens’ GM is well aware of what the longtime Leafs captain could bring to his up and coming young team.

“Acquiring an experienced impact player like Sundin will not only help our younger players, but also allow us to better compete with the top teams in the league,” explained Gainey. “We’ve been patient and built our team through the draft. We’ve now reached a point where it’s time to bring in the right veteran players to get us where we want to be.”

  2. Bring on Sundin!

I am uncertain about Tanguay...I would have much rather preferred Cammalleri but meh at least Bob is representing the Buyer logo for once!

I can honestly say that I haven't been this excited since we acquired Kovalev

    GO BOB GO :hlogo:

In Addition: Im almost 100% sure that the fat Newf, Dandenault, and Smoke are all gone if Sundin comes...

theres just no room for them...But what is going to happen to Streit? :o

  3. Price

    Kolzig UFA

    Komo-Markov

    Zidlicky-Hammer

    Gorges-Cube(Valentenko)

    A Kost Plek Kovy

    Higgins Langkow(UFA) S Kost

    *Torres-Koivu-Latendresse

    Bégin-Lapierre-Kosto

I really like this lineup minus langkov...however i love Torres...he would be a ryder type addition with much more grit!!

Zidlicky is also a very responsible and offensive minded D man..if he is available for the right cost by all means ink him down!

  4. It may be early to determine who makes the Canadiens next year and who doesn't, but lets have a contest and see who is most accurate in all three predictions.

My prediction for the Habs roster 08/09

    A. Kost-Pleks-Kovy

    Higgins-Sundin-Latendresse

    D'Agostini-Koivu-S.Kost

    Kosto-Begin-Stewart

    Markov-Komi

    Hamrlik-Gorges

    Emelin-Obyrne

    Cube?

    Price

    Halak?

Habs Finish 2nd in the east with 101 points

Habs win the Cup (major expectations)

    Lapierre gone to AHL

Streit leaves as UFA (unless he signs for less)

    Ryder leaves as UFA

    Dandenault gone

    Smoke retires

Sorry, posted twice can a mod plz delete the other thread thanks

  5. Well Cliff Fletcher just fired Paul Maurice and Randy Ladoucer today

I'm sure he is NOT going to re-sign Sundin...so by all means, BG, please give Mats a big fat juicy one year deal in Montreal. I am almost certain that he will make it worth every penny. In his past four seasons he has had 75+ points. On top of that, it seems that Sundin wears off on the players who play around him and ups their game level just that much more. I think we are all dreaming on getting him though...

    Shanahan..no thanks...

  6. Well, Gainey made a decision to get Price experience and it was a gamble. Not just on winning or losing with him, but on Price's confidence.

If we lose this game, there will be no doubt that we lost this series due to Price not being good enough. The damage to his confidence could impact him for a long time. Maybe goalies take years to get their mojo back.. This was always my worry with Price. I don't want to see him rushed to the point where he suffers a major setback....

Once again very valid point. I've been saying this all along (you can check my previous posts if you don't believe me). IMO, I really think that he was put into a role he wasn't ready for, and that he might burn out like Marc Andre Fleury before returning to regular form seasons later.

  7. no, Huet kept Washington in it.. I watched those games and Huet was a major step above Price. We don't need amazing goaltending right now, we just need some steady play....

No kidding! Huet was spectacular..and by the way Lazy 26 did you not see the goal that took Washington out of the playoffs? There was Major goaltender intereference on Huet in OVERTIME of Game 7. Where are we right now? 20 minutes away from elimination in game 5...so you really can't defend price and say the future...Because this is NOW..as in Playoffs 2008.

  8. What game are you watching? We hit 3 posts in the 1st. We totally dominated this game. If we get even mediocre goaltending, we win. (3 goals in 12 shots - you can't win with that kind of goaltending)

I like Price, I really do. But he's in a slump right now. Carbo has a tough decision to make for next game. He needs to start Halak. Price had his chance to shake off his bad streak tonight and it didn't happen. He's even lost his puck-handling ability, so you know he's really struggling. Not the kid's fault. It's tough facing the kind of pressure he's facing when you're 20. Start Halak. Give Price a breather. Don't destroy the kid by making him come up a cropper yet again in game 4.

Now maybe Halak has a bad game too. Who knows? But at least we have a chance at getting better goaltending. If both teams keep playing the way they have, we win with half decent goaltending. (Let's hope Philly isn't able to up their game - they've been pathetic for most of the series - Boston gave us a much tougher series - SO FAR!!!)

I wouldn't even be suggesting Halak if Price had only been bad 1 or 2 games. But look at the last 6 games: he's had ONE good game in those 6.

It's up to Carbo now. (Kinda reminds me of the gutsy move that Pittsburgh coach made in '91? 92? Replaced Tom Barasso with Pieterangelo for a couple of games until Barasso got his game back. Probably won them the cup because they would have been eliminated had he stayed with Barasso at that point in the playoffs.)

Glad I'm not the coach right now!!!

    - Jack

Not only that but Philadelphia doesn't know what halak's style is like and where his weaknesses are...he will pose new challenges for philly...If i were carbo I would totally throw Halak in...he's a guy with nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain. Give him a chance and i am sure he will respond

  9. Price will have a shot at redemption I am sure. If he responds with another effort like tonight

you will see Halak in Game 5

Screw that the team played harder in front of Halak in the 3rd....

Besides...didn't somebody have a Jaro the Hero avatar up before??

I believe it was KoZed...whoever it was...put it back up!

I know you like Price Wamsley, but you need to accept that price has been marginal at best and sometimes the most unlikely shake-up is for the better

For example: Cam Ward in Relief for Gerber for Hurricanes playoff run

  10. No offense Wamsley, I truly enjoy your posts.

Your "rose coloured" glasses concerning Price is the exact same as Brobin's blind love for Huet.

Price has sucked all series long and with the exception of game seven, he sucked in that series too.

    He has been terrible.

Forget about the missed chances, Price has sucked. Plain and simple.

Finally somebody sees the same light that I do!!

  11. He has been weak tonight, but where is Kovalev? Where are the Kostitsyn's? Where is the blame on Markov?

    etc etc.

Kovalev gave a great pass to No finish Higgins in the first

Andrei Scored a fantastic goal game 1 and has been buzzing around the net...in fact i think he might lead our teams in shots this series

And Markov is injured...i think people on this board are forgetting hes playing hurt

Price is one of the biggest reasons if a L is chalked up tonight...he hasn't looked great...

At the same time u dont want philly to score 5 on price in the 3rd and have his confidence totally destroyed, therefore I think Halak should in fact start the 3rd

  12. Put Muller and Carbonneau in the lineup next game...as far as this game goes...

    we didn't:

    a) execute on opportunities (posts dont matter)

    b) score the first goal (this is the 3rd game where philly has scored first)

    c) get the special teams going

if we cant do any of all 3...we're toast

Also...Price needs to stop shaking his head at his players...he needs to come out a little and cut the angle down. He's way too far back in his crease.

Putting Halak in isn't going to solve much at this point...starting him game 4 will be a good idea...it will pose a lot of problems for Philadelphia (they wont know where to shoot)
