  1. Looks like this thread jinxed Begin...went to the dressing room right after that hit in the third period.

By the way, Dandenault is probably the hardest working guy out there night in night out for all the grinders on this team...It will suck to see him go because hes so versatile like Streit, but his age is catching up with him and its time to make the transition to have youth running lines 3 and 4. I like Begin, but even HE is a waste of salary. I have pretty much forgotten about him being on this team because he seems to be as injury prone as Carlo Coliacovo. To be honest i'd like to see both of them out next season and have the youth take over for the grinding role.

  2. Nice contradiction there. Malkin gets more votes, but then you say the fans wanted Kovalev more. Interesting. It's not like people had to go out of their way to do the write in votes. Malkin is better than Kovalev, is the future of the league, and deserves to be seen by the fans. We've all seen Kovalev, let us see Malkin now.

Let me ask you Fanpuck, not trying to be rude or anything, but did you even vote? I started a group on Facebook to get Kovalev into the all star game, and got 1,504 people to join at its peak. It's not like you can oh so conveniently select Kovalev from a drop down list with only a few others on there (as Malkin was). In fact, you have to contend with a big alphabetical order slider to vote for Kovy with every "tom, joe, fred, larry and ed" in there as well. To be honest, I would bet you that some people when they do these mass voting for one person thing just click on two randoms from the East to represent along with the person from the write in list (I'm sure some people on this board are guilty as charged doing it too). For example...look at Koivu...look how many votes he got despite having a bad season? If Kovalev (67,340 votes) was on there, there is a strong possibility that he may have had the equivalent number of votes, if not more than Malkin (79,566). As for "We've all seen Kovalev"... be honest with you I've never seen Kovalev in a "Slam Dunk Type Shootout", and I sure as hell would have loved to see him in the 4 targets drill too, secondly..I've never seen him at the All Star game in a Habs Jersey...Comprende?

  3. Last time I cheked, the topic was "Habs Need to work on Final Minutes Drill" and not "Koivu is playing like @$$"? But since nobody cares about the final minutes discussion, I might as well give it a whirl. We all know Saku isn't playing well this season. He's had several linemates put with him and they all seem to be problematic.....Am I noticing a recurring theme here? Let me restate that one more time juuust in case you missed it...he has had several linemates this year, and everybody seems to say that so and so is bringing Koivu's game down. Maybe it's the other way around...has anybody thought of that without saying...Oh Ridiculous? Anyways, reality check time...We're stuck with him for the rest of this season and the next... so how about we all just stop having our hissy fits and realize we're getting nothing for him unless his no trade clause is waived. If i was a statistician (which I am not) I would say the probability of Koivu being ran out of town is about a 2.9%....what can we learn from this....

JUST LIVE WITH IT.....WE ARE SCREWED UNTIL HIS CONTRACT IS UP

  4. I don't think BG should pull the trigger period. If it's not broken don't fix it...this team is sitting just fine right now. As far as I'm concerned Huet needs to stay and Bob Needs to re-sign him...but if Huet wants contract security than we have no choice but to move him. The only move I see Montreal doing at the deadline is Ryder to somewhere for some draft picks. Does anybody have a situation on JP Dumont or Dustin Brown? I'd love to see either come to Montreal for the home stretch going into the playoffs. Ps: Alex Tanguay...can keep his ass put in Calgary

  5. First of all..I have to say this again...Josh Gorges SUCKS. He is no better than Rivet...in fact he is starting to convince me that he is worse! He needs to be sent down....he sucks...period. With regards to the team tonight...we had MORE than enough chances to be in the game tonight. 8 powerplays and one goal to show for...including TWO five on 3's in which we cant capitalize on? Give me a break!! Our 5 on 5 play was not even marginal..it was simply piss poor. I could not find one positive in this game tonight. In fact, while I am at it i will also bring this point to the table...when is Carbonneau going to learn that Higgins is not a powerplay type player??? But there is nothing to panic about...it's just a few small things that need adjustments. Smolinski is just a waste this year...he has not impressed me whatsoever..on that note.....why was he on the 5 on 3?? Awful coaching move there by Carbo. We have too many "energy" type players on this team..for example: Streit, Lapierre, Ryder, Latendresse, Begin, Kostopoulis, Dandenault. We need more finesse and depth players IMO. To be honest, it seemed like the whole team was flat-footed out there tonight and the guys were simply being outworked. But, on another note you cannot complain that the team has played some great hockey in its last 11 games 6-2-3 is not bad at all...Points in 9 of 11 games. Lets hope these little things all come together and everything will go back to normal next game (as it should). :hlogo:

  6. I think Kovalev is going to make it because he was the top write-in candidate by the fans.

I know three people who don't deserve to be voted as highly as they were...

    Maxim Afinogenov: GP: 38 G: 7 A:11 PTS: 18 ....Sad...

    Jason Blake  : GP: 42 G: 8 A: 19 PTS: 27

    Chris Drury: GP: 42 G: 11 A:18 PTS: 29

...If those three make it and Kovalev doesn't over one of those three...I will be very upset

  7. I dont know if he's done enough to get in but I'd be a treat to watch.

I think he has done more than enough to get in...He's actually in the plus instead of the minus this year

He doesn't take shifts off anymore. He once again proves night in night out that he's there to win...

He still makes NHL defenceman and forwards look for their jocks on the ice. And he's not as selfish with the puck.

He has progressed his game into being an all-round player...which I think has All Star written all over it. I don't think Koivu should go..

He hasn't done anything spectacular this year ^_^ .....But Congrats to Markov...he rightfully deserves it!

Just read the news during my break @ school... great news.

Here's hoping Kovy gets on the team as well (the rest is decided by the NHL, right?).

NHL has announced they will reveal the rest of the Eastern Conference All Stars Friday

  8. GO HABS GO! I hope Big ####, Pleks, and Kovy light it up, along with Ryder keeping the ball rolling...and hell..maybe even give Josh Gorges a goal.

Keys to the game...be disciplined. Win one on one battles, utilize the cycle down low (washington's D are irresponsible and tend to get out of position). Change the powerplay up a bit with some fake shot passes cross ice (Markov). I have no doubt in my mind that Price will play good (he will be remembering about winning Gold on this very day!...hopefully the next step hits his mind...and we all know that that is :hlogo: )

  9. Is it just me...or does Josh Gorges turn the puck over way too much? Yes, I know we need him there now...but when we have a defensive surplus, he needs to spend a few games in the pressbox and work on his puck awareness in practice and work on pressure plays (which he is AWFUL in executing)... I am always nervous every single time he is out there and the puck is deep in our zone

On another note...decent effort tonight..it's too bad Corey Locke wasn't in the lineup....to be honest he reminds me of Koivu in some ways.

Anyways, sorry for posting in the other thread Cataclaw, but I was too eager for the game thread to be up

And last but not least, I would like to wish everybody on Habsworld a safe and happy new year!!! May our Canadiens pick up where they left off playing above .500 hockey for 08

    GO :hlogo: GO

  10. 1) Teemu Selanne

    2) Little #### stays for good...ryder gets dealt

    3) A miracle deal (landing big UFA at TD)

    4) we sweep Sens and Leafs for the remainder of games vs them

    5) NO TEAM FLU

    6) Kovalev makes the all star game and owns

    GO :hlogo: GO
