The world has changed.  People want their sports faster and faster in 2019 than they did in 1987.  The availability of thousands of tv channels, and information at your fingertips with the internet is changing the world.

It is interesting.  I find it depends a bit on your perspective.  I always find a game goes by way to fast when I am there to see it live.  Watching on television - it always seems longer.

Here is the thing.  Last night's hand pass was obvious... and I want that reviewable cause I don't like that obviously wrong calls are allowed to stand, especially in key moments.

But we've been down this road.  The offside challenge came cause Matt Duchene scored a ridiculous goal where he was 3 feet offside.  They made the rule, and now the unintended consequence is that we have these stupid reviews for things that are a milimetre offside.

I think video review shouldn't be for every single little thing.  It should only be clear and obvious errors by a ref.   I don't want 4 minutes of stoppage to see if a guy's skate was a centimetre off the ice, 40 seconds before the goal was scored.  But I don't want someone scoring a breakaway when they are three feet offside, or that clear hand pass last night.

If the extra cap we have been lumbering around for a couple years ends up being dumped on Karlsson, and we end up with a top pair of Karlsson and Weber, it would be well worth the wait, I would be grinning ear to ear for months, quite literally.

It would be like injecting steroids into this sorry excuse for a PP, it would take our speedy transition game to another level, it would be like adding a top 6 forward and a top 4 D in one fell swoop. Imo it is very unlikely, but if by some chance it were to manifest itself as reality, it would be nothing less than a home run, timid and cautionary actions  be damned, you don't get a shot at an Erik Karlsson every summer. There are very few, if any, who see and play the game the way he does, no single acquisition within our grasp could bolster our D and help our forwards the way he could.

So forgive me if my stance is, if we have a chance in hell, you swing for the fences and try to get it done. Forget over thinking this, hesitating over his health, pondering his longevity, how he will do on his offside. There are some players that come around, you just have to throw caution to the wind and aggressively pursue, he is one of those players for many reasons. Our needs, going forward, to upgrade this roster align with what he brings to a roster, the pros and cons to this kind of signing would be like the stack of papers i signed when I bought my house vs the bill I got at Red Lobster the other night. I don't get the apprehension from anyone about going hard after Karlsson with our cap space, there could literally be no simpler, or worthwhile reason to use it in such a manner.

Why would Aves even consider that? Unless you mean for Aves own pick, not Sens.

Maybe Gallagher or Domi, Weal (worth nothing) and 2nd round pick (pretty insignificant when talking about drafting Hughes or the Finn kid) and nothing else back from Aves for Sens pick.

I meant their own pick.  And Jorda Weale can be replaced by any of the 200 4th liners we have.

  5. The 'Code' is the NHL's version of bullying, and it is allowed to exist.  Very strange concept when you think about it in 2019.  Then again, the NHL is all about 'Old School' politics.  Don't celebrate too much, don't check a big player if you are a small one, don't do this and don't do that.

A lot of BS if you ask me.

Some on here (and other places) are calling Byron dumb for fighting, yet despite what Weegar says - he left Byron little choice.  Truth is it happens all the time in the NHL, and I bet at least half the posters on this board would say something like - "the NHL is a man's league, Byron needs to man up".   Weegar should be getting a 'severe' instigator suspension if the league were really serious about putting an end to this kind of thing.  And Weegar himself admitted to being the instigator by 'asking' Byron to fight.

And again, Weber was not on the ice for either of the goals vs the Hawks and he and Mete played fine. Obviously outside of his mis-hap at the blue line creating the 2 on 0 (some thing i haven't seen happen before ;)) which didnt result in a goal luckily!

the thing that made the biggest impression on me from that play is how fast Weber got back on the play.  He fell and was completely out of position, but was all the way back to break up the play in front of his own net.   Didn't look old there at all.  Looked like a player that lost an edge.....

Just grinding your gears, but still wouldn't use 'destroy' to describe Kotkaniemi's icetime. Don't you think that is way overboard?

Destroy is a little overboard.   But my point is, his management team have mismanaged so many players over the years and I don't want to see KK become another.

Not sure who Bergeron is, but that guy is trying to destroy Kotkaniemi? I hadnt heard that, what is he doing to Kotkaniemi?

He's a nasty guy who works as a waiter at Dunns Smoked Meat.  Used to be an NHL GM or something but couldn't find a decent centre for years so they finally put him out to pasture.

...spellcheck strikes again....   I fixed it.  Thanks

I somewhat agree; however I saw a few good shifts by Weal tonight.

You used the wrong word with "deserve".  They outshot Chicago 2 to 1, but the Blackhawks had some key scoring chances, and obviously capitalized.

OK I had two nights sleep and have calmed down - a bit.

What frustrated me the most was depending on the players on the ice Saturday, we saw two VERY different teams.   Yes, Crawford stood on his head but we had two lines that gave it everything they had - and two lines that floated.  That may be simplifying things a little, but guys like Sahwa and Lehkonen gave it everything they had on Saturday - they just couldn't beat Crawford (or the post).  If that pressure and intensity was kept up they would have eventually gotten one, or two...

Problem was they would get the Blackhawks on the ropes, and then Drouin would step on the ice and make a stupid (lazy) play and that was it.  And Drouin wasn't the only one.  But he was the worst.

What was Kulak doing on the PP in the third period?

And the fourth line was one of our strengths early this season - WHEN WE WERE WINNING - then we made changes and now it is a real problem.

And why is Julien disciplining players when we are in a dog fight for a win, for a playoff spot?  Byron on the fourth line?  KK on the bench?  That is BAD COACHING.  Especially in the third period, with the game, and the season on the line.

Finally, how many young players have we watched the Bergevin era destroy?  Galchenyuk anyone?   And now he is trying to do the same thing to KK.  Wow!

  10. Thompson and Weale were also terrible.  And I mean terrible.  Bring back Hudon and Peca.

Sorry, I'm frustrated as hell.  Habs deserved a better outcome.  Problem is there are too many floaters.  As good as the Habs were at time tonight, they were terrible at other times.  Drouin really stood out for bad play tonight.  Shaw and Lehkonen just had bad luck as they both worked hard.  KK got hurt.  Danault looked good.  Domi and Gallagher were, well Domi and Gallagher.

Also good on whoever was back checking on that 2-0, McDavid and Draisaitl in all alone like that holy shit.

Price kept that solid as a rock.

Was a great backcheck by Petry.  Couldn't believe he got all the way back, and turned around to face both players.  Didn't know he had it in him,

  12. First, I'll be honest - Montreal has retired a lot of jerseys, some say too many.

But it is the all-star break - so let's look at all time all-stars.  As the title says, if you could retire ONE more Habs number - whose would you choose?

Andrei Markov and Saku Koivu are two names that immediately jump out at me.  (I know they didn't win cups, but...)

Or how about Steve Shutt or Jacques Lemaire (the player...)?

Georges Vezina's jersey was never retired?

    Never heard that?

Based on Stevie Y getting an extra pick +Sergachev, if he didnt play 40gms?

Or based on something else Tampa said?:spamafote:

He and Tampa we at odds for most of his time with the team.  it is pretty well documented.

I dont agree with that.  Drouin had 2 good seasons with tampa and the analytics were strong.  The hadnt proven anything isnt exactly true.

I still think he can be a very good player for this team.  He looked really good in preseason.  Last nights bad game shouldnt be taken as too much of an indication of his season.

Last year he scored an assist on the tying goal and the shootout winner in the first game against buffalo and we had a much different view of his first game and the season went the opposite.

Byron has had better seasons.  Wouldn't you agree?  And no one was saying he was the 'next superstar' or signing him to a 5.5 million dollar contract.  Proven anything - I guess depends on your definition of 'proven'.  How about he hadn't proven anything to warrant the hype when he arrived in Montreal, or the players given to Tampa, or the contract he was given.
