Just cap space to make room for Gio? That's a rumour Mtl wants to move Gorges. If that's the case, I categorically disagree. Love Gio, but Gorges is more valuable, IMO.
-
At least one person predicting he;ll still go to the laffs
-
"Upgrading" Gorges with Boyle? If that were to happen, colour me decidedly unconvinced. Another multi-year deal to an older player we remain on the hook for? The only way I see it making sense is if we sign him for one year with the assumption that the kids will take over. But theres a lot of risk there. I would hope its one of the other bigger defensive names out there. Or perhaps a shocker for a forward or two.
-
Parenteau deal is done.
-
I'd be disappointed with Boyle. Age and size are not a welcome combo, IMO. He's not going to make us harder to play against.
-
I understand his disappointment, however hockey is a business. Montreal wasn't going to the media with this, he did. Not that I blame him, but for outsiders to say they don't like how its being handled... well I'm not sure I agree. I like Josh. Good character guy, above average in his own zone. Still, really only a 4/5 guy on a solid defensive team. If we can make the team better either through trade or by bringing in a UFA with his dollars freed, then it's a good hockey decision.
Still and all, though, he's been a great member of this club and one of the reasons we're better today than we were when we got him.
-
Looks like Mtl potentially has a specific target and needs the cap space. Interesting.
-
Their 1st rounder next year? They'll be Stanley Cup favourites in November and a top-5 pick by season's end.
-
Id be happy to pay Weaver more than 1M and play him in the top 6. Sheesh. Unless we're players in the UFA market, we look somewhat thin on the back line. I know everyone is dreaming about our kids, but I'm still not convinced. Love to be proven wrong, but.
-
Why Cube and not Weaver? I don't get that.
-
If Ehrhoff is so good, then why was he traded for a fourth and then a conditional 7th? Seems to me his stock is plummeting and the Sabres don't even want to pay him $4m. And while he got points on the worst team in a while, did he do that because he was incompetent defensively?
-
Anyone know if we're in on Jiri Sekac?

I've pushing for Kane since before the jets finally fired Noel. I think they want guys that can play now, rather than prospects though. Pleks-gorges-moen-pateryn-1st for Kane-bogasian is what I'd offer.
Don't need to go anywhere near that high. Kane's value is plummeting. We're talking picks and prospects here and maybe a serviceable forward.

Word out of Ottawa (here) is that Spezza had all the western Canadian teams on his list of no-trade. Montreal and TO were okay. Of course, trading for this guy is kinda like trading for a big, fuzzy bunny.
The O'Reilly situation could force the Avs hand on Stastny. He's smaller than Spazza but is a lot more consistent.
-
I suspect Bergevin will be kicking the tires on Kane. Lots of displeasure with the player in the Peg and while they don't want to give up on him, they may need to get something for him before his stock potentially drops lower. Doubtful it's even a roster player, at this point, or if it is, it won't be an impact player.
-
Interesting. Explain why - ?
He's small, soft, doesn't really go in the corners, and while he has slick hands, he doesn't consistently use them. I suppose as a bottom-6 guy he's okay, but really, we already have Bournival, and while the latter's hands are made more of stone, he plays harder. I'd be really disappointed picking up Jokinen - other than watching him in the shoot-out.
-
My gawd. Jokinen would frustrate the hell out of almost everyone here. Pass.
-
I hope Therrien has a case of The Macallan 25-year for Carey Price. I'm not convinced. What were we, bottom-5 in puck possession? Doesn't inspire confidence.

Dallas sucks.

MB's presser today:
1. Goes to podium and stands behind table.
2. Picks up microphone from the standing position.
3. Pauses and drinks in the anticipatory silence in the room.
4. Drops the mic and walks out.
Presser done.

Whoa. We we from a lottery pick team to bonified contenders. If Washington wins are we lottery fodder again?

Latendresse returns to Montrela from the Swiss league where he was trying to rebuild his career - after suffering yet another concussion during practice. He was given his outright release. He refuses to call it a career... yet.

New headliner question for the thread. Who will score their second before DD does?
-
Try to see from another perspective. Maybe the group knows Desharnais is having a hard time and Pacciorety (arguably one of the players that can impact the most) is trying to boost his morale by tying Desharnais in a key role.
If that's what it is - Pax supporting DD by saying whatever it takes - then great. But I heard Pax, and his tone did nothing to convince me he wants to be without DD.
Habs qualify Subban, Eller, Nattinen; release White, Czarnik, Delmas

Oh thank gawd. No more White. Another player some fans seem to love but who adds very, very little to the team. That he's no longer here indicates we're another step up the ladder. One run further from Lind and Witehall.
