  1. Subban and Bouillon had each had 26 shifts in the game, and Murray was low man on the defensive totem poll with 23. Gorges and Diaz each played 36 shifts, and Markov played 35. Subban needs to be playing more than 20 minutes against the Blues. Therrien is trying to prove a point and it's costing us games.

First, this is the best argument of the bunch. By a mile.

Second, I can accept MT playing Markov more because of the experience factor and the fact that, had it not been for a few disastrous injuries, Markov probably had a more than reasonable chance of winning a Norris. Gorges I can see playing more from time to time because his kind of defence is different from that of Subban, and sometimes you need to go with the horse that suits the race. But Diaz? Really? And only 3 more shifts than Murray?

Of course, the caveat to that is the consideration that his two minute shift is actually closer to three full shifts. So, you know, there's that.

  2. And now Bob McKenzie is hypothesizing that all this hubbub with Subban is a result of contract negotiations. Which makes sense, from the team's POV: you aren't playing as well, aren't proven, so less money for you. But IMO, that would be bargaining in bad faith. McKenzie also suggests Subban might be looking at a two-year deal for arbitration and UFA potential. I hope the only contract he signs is very long-term. I'm mildly concerned with all the brow-ha-ha right now.

  3. Shame about Leblanc, however with this turn of confidence perhaps he'll really take his game to the next level and start tearing up the A. That's be great because I think a Leblanc for Schenn deal seems pretty good.

As for DD, you have to think the rope is far shorter now.

  4. Nail Yakupov is a step in the wrong direction, We need bigger forwards, and defense to handle the playoff game. (Did you watch the game, you know, with the Blues)?

Boxing is more popular than ever, Floyd Mayweather makes 70 mil a year, the idea that "boxing is dead" or "who watches boxing" is a canard. The smurfaholics/euro lovers are on notice. MB/MT like tough hockey, and tough players, and if you're looking for a return of the 911 Nancies of 2011/2012, I suggest you tune into a rerun of "Dawson's Creek."

Don Cherry? Is that you? ;)

Just to make a point, big and tough doesn't mean fights, it means, well, big and tough. I don't think any of the arguments against fighting mean people want another episode of the Smurfs. I think it just means they don't want guys like Parros and his stage directed fights.

Another small point, I'm not particularly fond of your Cherry-esque quasi-bigotted "euro lover" statement. It's just one comment, and I don't know if it's off-the-cuff and knee-jerkish to the whole anti-fight thing, but its implications are not good. It's no different than the elements of the French fandom who decry anything non-Quebecois.

  5. Sadly, the reality of hockey today is that it's still run by the Old Boys who insist that fighting is integral to the game. Only when we start seeing the Old Guard enter their old age homes will we really have a chance to see hockey (you know, pass-skate-shoot?) not be such a slave to the mindless violence that continually leaves the sport deep in the bush leagues of the farcical.

  6. Well, I have to say, I completely agree that, until this point St Louis hasn't broken one single rule. I didn't see one single hook or hold or interference. Really I didn't. Great reffing.

Yeahhhh. Sorry, but St Pierre has not played well enough to get PP time. That's ridiculous.

Some things I really like about Therrien, yet some things are SO SO confusing.
