I thought I recently heard Chelios has since said, he wanted out of Montreal at the time, due to constant criticism and team leadership set-up? So was either trade or lose him and was going leave one way or other.
I heard there was a lot of teammate wife-sleeping at that time. LOL

Was it on the right net at least or was it an own goal?
On topic, Parros got the green light to practice with contact so he should be back soon. Pacioretty is also skating with the main group at practice and Emelin is skating with a non-contact jersey.
Haha. Actually, I'm usually one of the league's leading scorer's, so it was in the opposition net - after decking out three players! Unfortunately, I tore my meniscus in one of my knees, so no leading scorer for me this season as I need to rest it periodically.

I can't see the Habs making any deals this season, quite honestly, unless a hulking winger comes at a price that MB deems acceptable, or DD has a suitor. Otherwise, I just don't see this as a season when we need to make a huge change.

Since the thread was introduced, I had a gut feeling on who the most underrated Hab really was. I'm pretty satisfied at this point that my initial instincts feel vindicated by the first part of the year. Markov is, by far, the most underrated Hab, both within the Canadiens fan-base as well as throughout the league. I wonder what his value might be had he not suffered a few of those injuries, because I think he would have been in Norris consideration a few times, and may very well have won it. He's such a smart player, and I can see him playing another few years at a very high level.
Coming in a close second place is Plekanec who does so many little things that go overlooked when he isn't scoring. I think it was Cuke who first called him a glue-guy, and that's a very apt label.
As for overrated, I don't really have much opinion on this. Every player is vastly overrated by someone - I remember people feeling Jason Ward was all that (even though he needed to hit the boards before he turned cause the guy just couldn't skate). If I had to name someone, though, I'd call out White. I think there's a lot of commentary about what he is, and what he brings to the team, except he's changed his game so much in the last year (because he was taking horrid penalties) that he's lost a lot of the edge that made him the effective agitator he needed to be. Trizz was the one who said it to me best, every team needs a little crazy because it keeps the opposition on its toes. White has lost the crazy and he just isn't good enough to be anything but that.

Just a thought about Price. I often hear or read that Price had an off or poor year last year. I think Price had a good year but faltered down the stretch and then was hurt at the end. People keep saying that Price is a horse and can play 65-70 games.
I wonder if that may be the problem. Maybe he's being played too much and needs to play fewer games so he can be stronger at the end of the season and the playoffs. There may be a pattern to his late season downturn and injuries and maybe his playing time should be something they look at and maybe reduce a little.
Adding in the Olympics for him may not be a good thing for our team's success.
That's a pretty reasonable hypothesis, for sure. To be honest, though, I'm not sure I agree. My opinion, as I watched Price's game degenerate as the season unfolded, was that he was unsupported off the ice. Every goalie has bad games, and when that happens, they often get an extra night off and you hear about them working with coaching to target issues. I don't recall hearing that last season. I also feel that he lost more and more control of himself in the crease as the season progressed - and a good goalie coach should have caught that and worked with Carey to eliminate the extraneous movements.
I truly believe the best move MB has done since coming to Montreal (and he's done a lot of great moves) was to hire Waite. The difference in Carey's game thus far has been substantial and his consistency level has been excellent. (And I don't care about the "howler" he allowed the other night because every goalie in hockey has a few of those a year - it's part of the trade.) It may still be relatively early in the season, but I'm looking forward to watching Price's continued evolution into elite goaltender.
Kudos have to go to MB and the coaching staff for pulling Carey over the humps in his game (and Price himself for obviously working hard).

Haha sakicq! I have a buddy on my soccer team who was saying the same thing about his fantasy team! I asked him if he could request a category for kidnapping, which would make him a clear winner.
We were trying to figger out what Shanahan would say:
The principle point of contact was the gag in the mouth, followed by tying the hands behind the back.
Okay, making light of a serious situation, my bad. Apologies to those offended.
BUT REALLY... principle point of contact! Jon Stewart would have a field day!

Markov has changed his game somewhat, and he's *far* more intelligent these days. Now, whether that is just an anomaly and he gets tired, I don't know, but I'd imagine Commandant is correct in that, last season being his first in a while, he got overly tired. I suspect we're seeing Lidstrom Light right now - that NHL defender who really establishes himself late in his career. That's my guess-slash-hope.
Because honestly, Markov really is all that - and the bag of chips.
-
Can't move Budaj as we have no reasonable replacement. I'd dangle Fucale and see what happened.
-
hey man, give em hell.
Thank you. I did. Even scored a goal. Hurray for old guys!
-
If you played for the Habs, you'd still be better than Juha Lind.
Thank you!
AND Johan Witehall, I'd like to hope!
Now excuse me while I put braces on both my ankles and hobble out to play soccer tonight. ;-)

TFP states that MB will be opening talks with Subban soon. They expect roughly a doubling of his salary. I don't care about the number, honestly, I just want to hear that negos have started and the term is around 7 or 8.
-
Markov - Hamrlik is light years behind Markov-Subban.
If they can resign Markov and Subban and still have room for Eller this year and the increases for both Gally's next year, we have the potential to have a better defence next year if Belieau and Tinordi are ready then what we had in the 80's.
My worry is we will let Makov walk. This is why i had hoped PG would have signed Markov to a longer term deal then 3 years. 3 years didn't make sense, since now to sign him for more years is more of a risk, since he is over 35.
Haha. I love it. And I'm not complaining about what you said at all here, but isn't it amusing how people were ready to call his last contract one of the major duds because of all his injuries? Fact is, Markov is *still* one of the better defensemen in hockey today.
-
He was sent back down tonight.
But I've loved his effort and intelligence.
He's a smart player - that much is clear. I see some potential there, possibly as high as second line, though he still has a ways to go for that.

Subban has been playing somewhat higher risk lately, and while the Habs are trying to lock it down waiting for injuries to return, it's only natural that they reduce his ice and get him to concentrate more on making sure he's doing all the little things correctly. Every player every season has a time when their level of play dips and they are necessarily pulled off the ice more often than they're used to doing.
Or, contract talks are about to open and the Habs want him to be struggling while they try to sign him for less than what he'd get while playing at or near his peak.
Or ... nevermind.
If he's traded, I'd expect a Crosby-ish return or you can expect a Colin-ish withdrawal!

I'd rather have a guy who gets injured easily but has a metabolism that repairs quickly than a guy who repeatedly gets the same injury because that particular part of his body is gimpy. Like, for instance, me: same ligament in my ankle torn 6 times. If I played for the Habs, I'd be *that* guy - injury prone!
-
Price didn't see that one until late. Not the best goal.
-
Goal! The Reject Line!
Been sitting on that for a while, haven't you. Heh heh
-
And then I look at Holland's stats and he too has shifts way too long.
-
Holland is playing very efficient hockey.
-
Leblanc looked good that period and I think Therrien felt the same way. He had more TOI than Gallagher, Plekanec, and Galchenyuk.
The problem there is that he had two less shifts. I like that he's looking better, but he needs to make sure he's playing the team concept.
Bournival given the goal.

Dommarkräk!
Bless you!

The 2nd wave of that power play is.... bad.
-
He sure did. Diaz should study the footage closely. Notice how at no point in time did Markov dive at the puck carrier.
He left the shot and positioned himself in such a position as to be able to intercept both the main cross-ice pass, but also potentially the drop pass. It was really brilliant.
-
Markov played that 3v1 perfectly.
Time to look at signing Gagne

Oh oh oh! The Leafs have won the Cup 10 years in a row there! And I'm the top scorer in the league every year!
