Eller is getting bigger and bigger. You feel he got big just to avoid being crushed. And showed it when Smid tried to hit him and was flattened.

Don't forget "Clitsome..." Thank God his first name isn't "Lance."

This game day thread will bring victory. I sense it.
I disagree about this being a boring game. Edmonton can't play defence. They aren't particularly good up front either. And between the pipes is downright embarrassing. And the Habs play to the level of their opposition.
Therefore this is going to be a wide open, high scoring, grey-hair inducing, pool happy (unless you've got the goalies), Price pulling, defenceless, angst ridden, fox saying anti-slugfest which will go to a shootout and will be decided in the 15th round.
Book it, Dan'O.

Is he our replacement for Brière when everyone is healthy? Okay then.

Would anyone be interested in Tootoo? Quiet rumours that he may be waived. We could always use a little crazy...

The problem is, and MB has stated this regularly, quality size doesn't grow on trees, and no one is willing to part with it if they have it. So while we'd all love to get big tough dudes, the reality is that this is still a transition year so a lot of positions were filled *as best they could be.* The only signing that's really poor, IMO, is the Brière signing - which was probably done with the aim of pacifying some of the angst-ridden fanbase as much as it was a hockey decision. And this year, that's okay! I know we all want to compete night in and night out and be up for the Cup every year, but to build a team capable of challenging consistently over the long-term takes time. Chicago had to ground out to get there. Detroit was a mess back in the Snorris days. We finished bottom three a mere two years ago.
It's really *really* easy to get riled when we see games like the other night (well-coached team, that Nashville), but it really needs to be put into perspective. No matter how much we desperately want success now now now, what we really need is patience - because if we take a step back and look long and hard at the work that MB has done, I think most would agree we've taken huge strides in a very positive direction. (And we need to remember that EVERY GM makes horrible decisions.)
My opinion? DD - not the greatest contract when taken in the context of this season's cap, but next year? Assuming *any* production whatsoever? Not the biggest issue. Parros - not my favourite, but I'll submit that, at this stage, he was a necessary signing. Bouillon - high-quality depth signing who's been *very* important. Murray and Drewskie - in today's NHL you need defensive depth, particularly since the red line is gone and the forwards attack the D with more speed than every before. While the latter adds very reasonable depth, the former does both that and the added bonus of a massive, and much needed mean streak.
As for Brière - transition year. Might as well make people happy while taking a gamble on someone who *could* make a difference. Early days, time will tell on this one.

Sadly, all. Including Emelin and Murray.

If I didn't know better, I'd say the entire team was coming down with the Bourque flu. They all look massively sluggish.
-
Ah. Prust.
We need that sacrifice.
-
Kinda nice that we have the talent in the lineup that, on any given shift, can wake up and take over a game.
This is going to get called off, sadly.
-
Are we supposed to act like losing Briere is some kind of blow to the team? Please.
No one said anything about a blow to the team. Just another in a long and never-ending list of injuries.
-
Brière out for the game. Have to suspect concussion.
And the beat goes on. Subban with the career-altering injury next? Price? Farcical.
-
It's like half the team has left their brains at home.

Thank gawd that kid keeps working.

Well, that was by far the worst period of hockey this season.
In the NHL.

a) skating draws a penalty
b) dive? really?
-
Shades of Patches being run into the stanchion.
-
Not skating at all.
-
Habs are stuck in first gear. They look terrible. Can't complete two passes in a row and are really struggling to put anything together.
Was that Gorges with the wicked deflection?
-
Anyone awake? BAD game so far.
-
Paul Coffey? Really? Best left winger who played defence ever. Calling him a defender is borderline at best.

Actually, I feel Bourque is very strong so far tonight. He's winning board battles (and being unsupported) and seems to be skating well.
