  1. As much as I'd like to see the Sens win, I'd like to beg Vancouver to win. I don't think I can take the gloating for an entire year. :D

Seriously though, Edmo, my dark horse. Gone. Sadness.

Even more seriously, I wanna see this final go seven games and I don't care who wins, as long as the hockey is good.

Yes, I too am seeing a trend here Colin. YES, you did express interest in Ryder and YES I did express interest in something of yours. BUT, you wanted me to wait, (presumably) while you continue to shop around. I HAD to move one of either Vermette, Vrbata or Ryder. Ryder being the oldest and most expensive ended up being the one. I am sorry that it wasn't you that got him but, I could not hold him for you while you look for something better. Also, considering the bath I am taking on our other "minor" deal I feel that should have/could have been taken into consideration as well. Again, I am sorry but I can't take the chance that you might not have wanted him in the end. You didn't give me any indication that you were prepared to do what I had asked for so I did what I felt best for MY team.

Well I wasn't pissed, I was laughing! It's as if me talking about a player gets him moved. Hold on, lemme try it again. You know that Crosby fella? I put in a HUGE offer for him. (Everyone should be ready for a call from Rob vis-a-vis Crosby now.) :D

    Minny. Ryder. Call me. ;)

Oh, and I have a lineup that will make you clowns looks like... well... clowns.

Kordic - Batgirl - Brad Pitt

Snoopy - Mr. Rogers - Snuffleupagus

Nietzsche - Heiddeger - Marcus Aurelius

Peter Pan - Mr. Hanky - Mr. Hand

The third line is as defensive as it gets and while the fourth line stinks, it's not because they play badly. Heck, they even sing Christmas songs.

    Defence?

    Dumbo - Undertaker

    Angelina Jolie - Peter Parker

    Al Gore - President Bush

    Goalie?

    The Rock

    Ken Dryden's beard

Now, I know yer gonna think my defence is small, but think of the versitility I have.

You will all fall before the might Dallas Stars.

    ...stop snickering...

  4. He did. He offered me all the players mentioned, plus Fedorov, Kuba, Mara, Smid, his left ear, and a partridge in a pear tree. Quite remarkable. I only turned it down because I don't have time to care for birds.

You can keep your patronizing for yourself, "buddy". No lessons to get from you here. :P

And I'm not asking for any "privileges". Just ask for some type of reasonable mesure here. I get asked for 3 young franchise players to get a top 10 pick, yet some other teams are only asked 3 worthless bums or 1 good young player. :guru: Get real.

Really. Well, I agree 100% with what Streamer said. Furthermore, the market in HWL, as it were, is a fluid thing because we're all at different levels of game knowledge. We all also value our players in different ways. And just because you know who will and will not be a franchise player because you edited them all does not mean the rest of us know, or even want to know. There are actually people playing the game here who just want to have fun and want to try and build a great team without that extra knowledge. ;)

Furthermore, when you fly off the handle so much, it puts people off. This is a *game*. It's for fun. Perhaps people don't want to trade with you because you come off as angry when things like this happen. Don't get me wrong, we *really* appreciate all the work that you've done - the league wouldn't be what it is without you  , but I think you need to get your emotions in check. You already HAVE the team that everyone fears for the next decade, game time. Everyone knows your drafting will be close to immaculate since, again, you have that more intimate knowledge. Do you really think you'll have a league around you, though, if you continue to get angry while going 75-2-4-1 and winning the Cup each year? :D

Your sig all on its own is a little off-putting. Get off our lazy asses and offer YOU a top-10 pick? What if we get an offer we prefer (doesn't have to be better, just that we prefer) from another team? What if we take offence to 'lazy asses' and just take any offer out of spite even though yours would be preferable. :king:

Don't worry AP, you *are* going to win. Even if you fail to get the mystical top-10 to which you so obviously feel entitled. :P

  6. Heyyy. Hohhhhh. Haahhh.

No need to get pissed at me! Look around the boards today and see what I've been posting...see a theme? Not a serious post in there. ;)

Imagine. Getting all flustered at Dallas, the HWL Jester/Fool.

    :D

  7. AP you have a set list that you're offering!!! Those players are fine and dandy, but the only ones I'd be interested in are the ones you won't trade!!! You want a top-10 pick, you gotta pay the price, not just offer up guys that you don't need anymore!!! :D :D

The main guy I was really eyeing is gone now. Blake. Gone. *sigh*

I guess I'll just have to take Minny up on his offer of Ekman, Fedotenko and his 3rd round pick next year.

  8. I told you my intention was to wait until the draft. If the man I want falls to where I am, then I'd be silly to go in another direction. However if he doesn't, then other offers are easily considered, and in fact I'm listing them right here on my pages as they are received. Here, look:

    :contract:

See? However, when everyone gets impatient and starts moving things because they feel the need to get something, anything done, it makes it very difficult for me - mostly because I don't know what anyone has anymore. Now I'm going to have to bother Jersey for those two, however since he went out and acquired them, I'm guessing I probably won't have much luck. :guru:

I was all ready to hand you the # 3 pick for Bure, O'Byrne, and Smith and now you don't have them. *exaggerated sigh* I'll have to go some other route now.

  9. My God man! Look at my team! I couldn't stop a line of carpenter ants bent on the total destruction of the boards around my rink! My defence has more holes in it than the purchaced Canadian submaries! My offence makes bunker concrete look like Swiss cheese. And while Auld is relatively decent, he'll never be confused with a capable Cup-contending keeper!

Nay, short of brandishing my pen at you with snide remarks and glib commentary, I'll fall rather short of stopping you. The Kings, even minus the crown prince Frolov, would exile my troupe of court jesters with little more than a wave of their wooden swords and a vaguely evil utterance.

    :D

  10. In an emotion-laced stetement, a league spokesman voiced what many had been suspecting for a while. The resignation of the Montreal general manager has been flatly and unanimously rejected by the league. The gauntlet has been tossed, and even though it accidentally careened off the head of the Minnesota GM, the message is clear: We will not let you quit without a fight.

When the manager from San Jose insinuated that the action was just plain wrong, there was a cherring heard from the steps of the Bell Centre as the unified managers leapt into action. Chicago's GM quickly described what he felt was his part in the two-man show, displaying wonderful bendy skills and a propensity for dropping the soap. Phoenix waxed poetic on the adept trade skills that turned Montreal into a playoff favourite, and the GM from LA wept openly, blathering on about a failed attempt to secure Komisarek and that with a new GM in place, that would be impossible.

When the congregating GM's broke out into song, Bell Centre officials rushed inside presumably to pass on the news to their superior; either that, or Streamer's high-pitched voice had their ears close to bursting. The point is, they went inside to tell someone, whether it be Hannes or the police. Either way, the message that he was loved was clear, if a little ear-shattering.

In a completely unrelated story, ten panes of glass outside the Bell Centre mysteriously shattered. Said one observer, "It just started shaking in the frame and them BAM!" Details on page C4.

  11. In a show of unity, the general managers from across the HWL gathered in front of the Bell Centre to try to dissuade current GM from following through with his plans to resign at season's end. While time constraints are understandable, the general feeling is that, with all the effort he puts into the league, he deserves to get some enjoyment out of it as well.

"Certainly," one GM was heard to say, "you have enough time in the week to take out fifteen to twenty minutes every two or three days to analyze what you have and set your team up for games. Furthermore, trading on the weekends has become de rigeur and the club won't be disadvantaged by a perceived lack of leadership during the week."

Another GM, who chose to remain anonymous, was quoted as saying, "Hannes, they should make an animal cracker out of you." While the apparent meaning of the statement was lost on this reporter, the sentiment behind it was obvious: no one wants him to leave.

Surely, while doing the updates and taking care of the regular commissioner duties, the Montreal GM would have some time to quickly update his own team. One might wonder how he'd feel if he witnessed his team being dismantled at the hands of a neophyte when all it would have taken is a mere pittance of time to keep the club running under his care.

If his decision is final, these GM's standing hand-in-hand in front of the Bell Centre will wish him well and abide by that decision. However it's a consensus feeling that the loss would be great, and hand-holding would become hugging when the tears started to fall. The Lightening GM insinuated a particular fondness for the Habs leader, discussing at length the numerous times the two got together for trade talks with a bottle of Vaseline, three hamsters and a wooden spoon.

In a related story, Martha Pitch has a fascinating new article in the Health section on the new trends in men's entertainment. See page B14 for the full story.

I think they were there because Gainey put out the call that he had extra bodies and wanted to move one or two. I also think they were there to seriously scout Hainsey, since he's borderline and can be picked up on waivers. If there was a scout from the Rag$ there, I'd say Dags was being scouted, since they like our refuse, but otherwise, I'm not sure I see a lot of interest for a guy that played one good period of hockey that night.

  13. I agree with Detroit. The way I see that trade, it's a good one for both teams. Sure, Kronwall might get a little better, but I think that Sully will be just as good as the pick. And the 3rd is gravy.

AP, I understand your frustration, but you have to look at this from Buffalo's point of view. Minny (and we all know what Minny is like) sold his players really well. And kudos to him for doing it, that's how Montreal ended up with Courtnall for Kordic in real life.

More to the point, though, Buffalo does not know this game as well as you do. He's looking at the players in question as any person without intimite knowledge of the game might. He sees three kids who look quite good for their age, and perhaps his scouts tell him they might get even better. As he's looking for youth, perhaps he sees this as his best shot.

I'm not saying it's correct because even though I don't know all that much about the game, I know this trade is rather poor. I agree with blocking the trade, but, and I say this with all respect AP, I disagree with the method you chose to block it with. Sure, be annoyed and frustrated, that's totally understandable. But, instead of just cancelling the trade and screaming bloody murder, teach.

Let Buffalo see and understand WHY this trade will hurt him in the long run. We're here to have fun, and he's not going to have any being yelled at with insinuations of stupidity. His error was one of a lack of knowledge and was not his fault in the least. I believe your post, in cancelling the trade, should have included more detailed, and patiently explained, reasons.

Because if not, he's destined to make the same mistake again and hurt his team more and therefore have less fun. And then you'll have less fun because of more frustration. And THAT is the most unacceptable thing of all.

I can seperate the GM from the Assistant-Commish.

I vented my frustration in this thread, which has nothing to do with the trade thread itself; and I done so as a GM. Not as the Assistant-Commish.

I had no intentions of blocking the trade until my u2u got flooded with GMs complaining about the trade. I had no choice but to reject it.

Would it be better if I "un-reject" it and let Hannes decide?

No, like I said, it's not that I think it shouldn't be rejected, because the simple truth is that it's a team killer trade for Buffalo. And yes, you came on here and vented, rather than on the thread itself. What concerns me is that he's going to keep making those same mistakes unless someone teaches him and I was thinking that, since you were a commishie sort, that you could give a better explanation as to why you nixed the deal so he'd learn. And in the end, if he REALLY REALLY believes in the trade, no matter what you or anyone else says to him, then isn't it better to learn the hard way?

I understand the integrity of the league thing, but I bring everyone back to Courtnall for Kordic. The NHL didn't jump in there. Sure, lotsa snickering, but no nixing.

    ;)
