    touche Colin...

I am 31 and no hair...

    So... :D

    The hair comment...

Does that preclude us ever doing a trade?

  2. The Thrash and Stars finalized a deal today, one that was a long time in the making. Atlanta gears up for the playoffs and Dallas collects a coveted prize.

    To Atlanta

    Guerin 34 $8866445 86-79-82

    Ott 22 $700K 58-73-70

    2005 3rd round selection

    To Dallas

    Kozlov 32 $3M 77-70-76

    McEachern 36 $2M 77-74-75

    Zamuner 35 $1M 61-70-70

    McKenzie 23 $450K 60-57-64

    2005 1st round selection

From a Dallas standpoint it's a tough call, obviously, having to eat age and salary, but I get far more flexibility with multiple players rather than just one massive salary guy. The clincher was the 1st round pick, which should be a mid-round pick. That will allow me to get two very solid players in the upcoming draft and will officially begin the long haul of bringing this team back to respectability.

Negotiations were easy-going and a lot of fun.

Edit note: I should point out that, while I have plenty of room to keep Guerin under my cap, it didn't make sense to keep him since he would be a superstar amongst children. Better to let him go help another team and go for a Cup while I rebuild around a youth concept. It just didn't make sense forking out that much for a player on a rebuilding team.

  3. Two things:

    1. As to Mad Mike on the Island, remember that much of his nickname came about because of some of the nutty things he did on the Island a few years back, before Kumar and Wang bought the team. That was when the Islanders had the worst and cheapest owner in hockey. They were restricted to a pathetically low salary cap back then. Now, since then he's also made some bizarro moves, but nothing like what he did so long ago. Yashin remains his only real blunder since the new ownership came in.

    2. Everytime I see the heading for this thread all I can think is Lindros. Remember when he was drafted and his mom told him what to do and where to go? Fans in every rink made fun of his mother. So when I read Ryder mum on contract talks... *laughs* What? Ryder's mum is in on the contract talks? What??

    :D

And I think that puts me to post 100.

  4. I used to watch Raw. All the time. Big fan - nay, huge. I know it's all nonsense, but DAYEM it was funny stuff! The Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, the McMahon family - the wedding stuff with HHH and little miss McMahon. DAMN FUNNY stuff!

Then Rock left. No more trash talk master. It just lost its appeal totally.

I tuned in to Michaels' monologue last night. Sad stuff. He went on and on and on and on and on ad infinitum...

However, when Hart's music blared? NICE MOMENT. Adrenaline rush. Me, 34 year old fart, got up and started cheering and laughing. I was sucked in. You know what would have been perfect though, to shut Michaels up?

    [cue Rock music]

If ya smellllllllllalalalalalalalalalala what The Rock.......

    IS

    COOKIN.

Micheals...(high pitched whiny voice) "I'm going to beat you up Hogan, you bad, bad man" SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND KNOW YOUR ROLE!

[Michaels tries to interrupt, Rock puts up his hand and shuts him up]

Shut up, 'fore I smack your tastebuds into next week Jabroni!

You open your mouth ONE MORE TIME and The Rock will take that mic, shine that sucker up real nice, turn that sumbitch sideways, and shove it STRAIGHT UP YOUR CANDY ASS!!!!

Oh, and if they're talking about Hart, then I guess he and McMahon have found common ground in their decade-long disagreement. If he comes back for Summerslam, I might actually watch here and there. Better, though, if Rocky came back. (Rocky, Rocky, Rocky)

I'm one of the millions [ear] AND MILLIONS of Rockaholics. The man is a master. I hereby take Rocky as the mascot of the Dallas Stars.

    Bunch 'o' Jabronis.

  5. Stars confirm.

And thus begins the beginning of the restock of the AHL club. Time to do all those little deals that you never quite get around to while shopping around all the high-priced talent. Wallin looks like a solid kid to have around and Stoner - despite his name - looks like he might actually have some potential. Time will tell.

    Good, clean transaction. A+

Hehehe, I was waiting for that game. It was as close as it could be (shots, challenges, etc.)

And Anaheim stole a tie from Toronto, scoring 6 on 4 with 1.52 secs left in the game... LOL

I hope Hannes wont be too mad with the Hawks chasing Theodore, hehehe. Made up for the snooze fest I had vs Washington the game before. 2-0 loss, 16-14 shots on goals. ZZzzz

The home-and-home between Carolina and Washington was the playoffs of the bottom-feeders... they split. :P

Almost lost it again but Czerkawski scored with 10 minutes left to tie it. It's usually him scoring with like...4 minutes left to win by one. I schooled Dallas (sorry Guy! >_>) and still only won 4-2. Outshot them 31-11. 11 shots, you better damn well get the shutout. Oh well, not gonna criticise Aebi, I'm sure he was tired from the game before which is my fault v_v.

Quite alright. I think it's telling that I didn't allow 15 goals against. ;-) IMPROVEMENT!

  7. On the one hand I feel much better with you having said that - I'm not *completely* insane. But on the other hand, Shortcat just posted here...on the HWL vacation thread! You must see my confusion!!!!!! *laughs*

So, whaddabout the list? Huh? Huh? ;-)

Yeah guys, don't ask me anything, I'm too busy crafting an AP79 voodoo doll. :P

Whatchout though, this guy is very sneaky, he becomes chummy chummy with you and then "pretending to advise" you, steals you best assets.

Um, I do believe you cornered me the first day I joined and tried to convince me that some puke with an overall 39 was going to pan out to be a first liner, then you tried to get me to trade you Arnott for him. :D Okay, so I exaggerate a little...

  9. *laughs* Can someone update the "Members" page on the HWL site? I'm starting to lose trace bigtime - and I just joined!!!

Which team are you, Shortcat? ;)

Oh, and perhaps, as we head into the trade deadline, this would be a very good time to put out a list of everyone's Yahoo names so we're all there (or as many as possible). Some kind of organized contact sheet (GM hotline list) would be really useful.

  10. Dallas is pleased to announce that it is out of the trade market for the time being as it has completed the final trade necessary for the team to start the rebuilding process.

    To Toronto:

    Guerin, 34 $8866445 86-79-82

    Zubov, 34 $6000000 81-75-78

    To Dallas:

    Carlo Colaiacovo, 21 $1130000 58-83-74

    Matt Stajan, 21, $825000 74-69-73

    Dmitry Vorobiev, 19 (prospect) 34-48-53

    Toronto's 1st round pick

Deal is delayed one week until Guerin comes off the injury list.

Finally the last of Dallas' legacy is gone and we start fresh and young and clean. With Colaiahoweveryouspellthefreakinname I really help the defence and Stajan is another useful player who will do well here. Vorobiev is a potential defender in a couple of years and makes my defence satisfying for the moment.

  11. You jinxed it all! I was safely losing everything, then once you mocked the team, BOOM, I win a game. lol I think that's one in the last 14 or 15. *chuckles*

Seriously, though. I don't want anyone to think I'm tanking it here, because I'm not. I just had to get salary levels down really fast, and I figgerd I might as well do it now since I wasn't going to be making the playoffs anytime soon.

I've picked up some younger players and some picks and I hope to retool this team to at least be somewhat competitive next year. But this is a long-term project because, as I'm sure you all know, Dallas was a club with a lot of oldtimers and high salaries and an empty kid cupboard.

yup, but that doesn't mean we are allowed to abuse untill then, some moves have been refused for cap consideration, let's be consistent.

I've personally never been over the cap for more than one real time week. It's been a practicing season for me.

Did or did not teams in the NHL abuse it badly before they had to get down under the limit? Not for me to say, I know, but as far as I'm concerned, if you want that Cup, go all the way to a hundred million for all I care. As long as you can dip back under by 30 June, it's all good baby, it's all good.

  13. What's with the one-year contracts? Are all these players so convinced that they're going to wow management that they feel the need to sign short-term so they can get a better deal? Is this the way of the future? Or is this about Gainey having some kind of master plan that sees him remoulding the team? Perhaps he's very cognizant of the fact that the cap is going to probably diminish somewhat, and in signing these guys for one year, he can renegociate next year with a tougher stance. But on the other hand, wouldn't that potentially make it harder to sign these players?

I dunno, but I'm not comfortable with it at this point.

    Colin

  14. For those of you looking to play catch-up, LOOK NO FURTHER.

    :D

Guerin (2 weeks to full health), Zubov, and others are all available.

It's Dollar Daze at the Dallas Stars
