TSN said the Raffi Torres could be on the trade block because CBJ is doing terrible. Is anyone interested in him? I think he would be great next to Moen on the third line, and could be capable of stepping up to the top 6 for short periods of time.

Halak vs Vokoun Battle for 1st spot on team Slovakia?
Vokoun is from the Czech republic, so probably not.

IMHO Max Pac was sent down because I keep confusing 67 with 57 when Max is on the ice. It's quite a letdown when you think Ben is on the ice but it turns out to be Max.

Someone posted earlier that the canucks were scouting habs defencemen for their playoff push. In addition to Sedin and Kesler at centre they also have Schroeder and Hodgson in the system. Maybe we try and dangle something a little better in an attempt to get one of their top prospects (Hodgson would be amazing in my opinion).

There's a difference between trying to make a guy feel pain (hurt him) and deliberately trying to injure a guy. Howe was a a guy who played physically and wore you down and made your whole body sore. This kid isn't doing that, he's trying to injure people. All three of those videos are deliberate elbows to the head. They weren't a case of "getting the elbows up." He was blatantly and intentionally putting his elbow up trying to cause damage to the head. There is absolutely no excuse for his actions. He's not playing physical hockey, he's assaulting people.
that's why we buy low. if we can trade a pick or maybe a guy like dags for cormier would you do it? he was been to the wjc twice and he was the captain this year. i know this doesn't mean he will become an all-star (see chips), but he is worth the risk. he has probably been reading his own hype lately and feels he is untouchable with of his hits. if we can bring him in i bet JM could read him the riot act and get him back on track.
-
ever hear of a guy named gordie howe? he also had a tendancy to get the elbows up, thing is people forget that when he scores goals (i'm not calling cormier howe, calm down).
my point is i feel cormier's value is much lower after this incident, yet he still has huge potential. also wouldn't it be nice to have the habs being the aggressor as opposed to the ones limping off the ice?

anyone else see this hit by patrice cormier? if the devils are looking to get rid of him i wouold take him in a heartbeat.

unless he is willing to sign for under $1M on a 1 year deal (which he wouldn't), i wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. the guy is 36 or something like that, makes around $5.5M now. so if we did sign him we would be on the hook even if he is hurt.
i realize salary is an issue, but if you think he is getting anywhere near 5.5 again you need to give your head a shake. He will still be 34 on the first day of free agency so we could sign him for about four years at like 2-3 mil a year but have him retire after two years

Halak for Turco ?
:puke:
turco is a UFA at the end of the season and i wouldn't mind picking him up to mentor whichever goallie we end up keeping. no chance i would ever trade an asset like Halak for him though.
-
That was a great pass by Hammer and sweet little move by Cammy.
Cant say Price isnt getting offensive support.
Well Carey did pick up the assist on that goal. Looks like he was taking matters into his own hands
-
What the hell kind of goal was THAT!!??
its new to us, but thats what it looks like when players go to the net
-
give me a break. Halak got us a point on saterday. The guy had 4 days off. Should have started today and you could have played both goalies on the weekend for the back to backs.
As a coach you have to reward good performances. Long term, I'm not decided on either. If we want to get in the playoffs we need to go with the hot hand.
BTW, i didn't call for the other goalie based on what I saw in the game. If you look at the game thread, I posted the same thing BEFORE the game started.
Bottom line, we NEED to go with the hot hand, who is getting the job done. Given our place in the standings, we don't have the luxury of keeping both goalies happy or give them an oppertunity to get there shit together.
Why are so many people calling for a win and you're in system, then crying when their favourite goalie loses and is out?

I wouldn't trade Plekanec, not just yet anyway. I would want to see what Pleks is looking for contract wise, before just dumping him off to Edmonton, who really has no players I would want. If I am going to trade I would see Dallas. I would see if we could get James Neal or someone of value.
Turco is a free agent this off season, and with him being 35 Dallas is looking at not re-signing him. Maybe Halak plus a pick goes their way for Neal? Besides could any habs fan really stomach Rebeiro and Plekanec ripping it up on the same team?
-
if we can't sign plex what about trading him and spaceman for Olli and Dion? Calgary wants an upgrade at centre and we want a big centre. Keep in mind i have checked no one's salary in this, but i think it would beyond screw us cap wise.

TSN has reported both Phaneuf (he denies it) http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/story/?id=305276&a...name=nhl-flames and Souray http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/story/?id=305271&a...name=nhl-oilers would be willing to be traded. That do anything for anyone?

"Aging American stalwarts such as Mike Modano, Bill Guerin, Keith Tkachuk and Scott Gomez will all be able to rest during the long break in February because they were left off the team."
Well he did turn 30 last week. I guess 30 is the new 40.

I think we will need more continuity on the third and fourth line, and to have one of them become a true shut-down line like the ducks had the year they won the cup.
-
tsn has a more positive outlook, so that's who i choose to believe

tsn says gionta and hamrlik will both play

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short, but that was the best first period I've seen in a very, very long time. Better puck support than at any point in the last few years and when you're trying to defend, that's incredibly important. I also love the fact that this really did look like the lunch-box-crew that many were hoping for. So many good things out of that period. I only hope it continues in the second. Forecheck, forecheck, forecheck!
PVR's the way to go. No commercials or listening to the RDS maroons blithering.
(I haven't read anything else in the thread yet. Might be amusing to see this post later after and before a couple of Flamer goals. LOL)
Incidentally, those Flame uni's? Brilliant. When I first turned it on it brought me back to 86 and 89 and I kept thinking I was seeing Niewendyk, Fleury and all those guys. These are by far the best Flame uni's.
thats why they had to cut theo, it would have confused to many of the flamer fans.

dion is a minus three... not pretty

Calgary has a lot of top-tier defencemen, and little scoring. Does anyone see us making a trade with them in the near future?
