There were a few minutes of brilliance in all periods but as the last years we still have a huge problem getting the puck out of our own end and thats what getting us so heavilly outshot. Maybe the Leafs played better than usual since its a home opener against their biggest rival. Im still scared at what might happen when the offensive superpowers of the east will be our oponents.
don't be too worried, for the most part our D pairings have never played a single game with eachother. just give them some time to gel.

Isn't obvious who our captain should be???
Metro?
-
metro is leading the team in points so far, did anyone have him in their pool. lol
-
komi has taken 5 minor penalties today...brutal
-
if the score holds who gets first star? stajan or the refs?
-
first he crosschecks the smallest player in the league, now he puches a guy when he's down. Komi is such a classy guy.

I'm gunna say 5-3 Habs. Goals from Gionta, Spacek, Pleks, Laps and Cammy.
spread the wealth.
5 goals, 5 goal-scorers.

Well, I read that he would think about retiring or not
We may have a Mats Sundin saga 2.0
maybe he is just resting up for a playoff run.
-
prediction: habs will come out strong and play like the 06-07 sabers, fast and furious.
5-2 habs!
-
he would be a solid vet presence, and the big body we are looking for. if we have an injury in our top 6 he should be waiting by the phone. this is assuming that he won't just retire for good...
-
has anyone else been following the theo fleury thing?
while I don't think he should be a top priority signing, if we can't find anything else I would take a look at him. I wouldn't be expecting him to play top 6 minutes or anything, but he could help some of our smaller forwards learn to play bigger than their size.
Just a thought.

If the talent levels between the NHL and KHL ever come close than an all-star game or champ vs champ game would be cool.
Wonder if Afiniganov will land in the KHL soon.

Ah well. We could do worse than Plekanec. I think we need a winger more than we need another centre.
which is where prospal comes in.
-
here is another direction BG could go.
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=286037
Vaclav Prospal has been bought out, and I think we would be pretty smart to offer him a short term deal. He is 6'2 and could be the big winger that BG wanted to play up on the first line. He went deep into the playoffs 2 years ago (lets forget who he beat in the 2nd round), so he has experience. This would be a long term deal, he would just be keeping it warm until either Lat or Pac can step up. He is a 600 point man (okay 599), so we would have to dump some salary, but it would be worth it to have a proven guy up their with gomez and gio.
Any opinions? (and don't give me that tampa reject crap)

I know there isn't much chance but you can always hope.
Also I think you might be right about the canucks. There might be enough oiler and flames fans who come to just boo them.

I can't put into words how amazing it would be to see my habs play in my home town. It would be nice to see the game coming to the heartland of hockey (sorry montreal).
While it is supposed to be a home game for the coyotes there is no way that will happen. The other teams they would play would be the flames, oilers, canucks and devils. The only time there is a chance of the yotes getting some support is against the devils. I'm suprised they didn't pick the ducks or sharks to show Getzlaf or PM. I think Moen would get a crazy ovation though, so it would be amazing.

At least this will put an end to the Sharp to Toronto talk.
-
    Oh stop it
Yeah , I know that was stretching it. It just looked like I needed 1 more decent reason to give him a look.
-
I'm suprised I haven't heard anything about Sundin coming to Montreal yet. We were after him all summer last year, now nothing. Our needs haven't changed we still want a big second line centre, maybe his bad season scared everyone off. This is also a guy who could step into a leadership role until one of our younger guys is ready. Maybe he will take a pay cut to play on what some people consider a competitive team.
-
Let's say Gui gets a good year (ie: 25 goals + 20 Ass.) My guess is that he could ask for 1.5 to 1.7 million$ per year on a 2 or 3 year deal.
kind of sad the 25 goal scorer would be making the same as our sometimes enforcer BGL.
-
damn. The one weekend game in western canada there is a rider home game starting an hour earlier!
-
Yeah, that is what I am saying
Subban was an unknown outside of Belleville before the world juniors where as Tavares has been on the radar for 5 years.
I would not be judging Tavares on two weeks, I would be judging him on primetime coverage on Sportsnet,TSN,etc
for half a decade.
Never judge a player by two weeks and junior stats. I have seen plenty of can't miss junior kids do nothing in the NHL.The hype machine known as TSN has placed plenty of 19 year olds among the pantheon of greats, and three years later
the same guys were writing these players off.
Just saying
-
well. Tom wins 0% of his fights though...
He does play about 50 games a year more than BGL though, and if you aren't in the line-up you aren't winning fights. At least tommy is sort of multi-demensional.
