  1. So we are all pissed and doesn't take a lot to set one off. Move on. Veterans are pressing, as they should, but the net result seems to backfire. Dallas was trying to bring puck to the center of ice to get shot. Montreal for whatever reason drifts the shooter away for bad angle shots. I am a McCaron fan. I liked him in front of net. I think he has to get better position, standing and moving directly in front of goalie and the shooter as the play evolves. I thought he kind of stood at the side of the goalie last night and didn't pick up on the movement of the shooter. Subban-- got to love him for all he does off the ice, but you wonder if it is effecting his play on the ice?

  2. I tend to agree. It's far from clear that Galchenyuk will ever do more than what Johansen has already done. The 'character' issues around Johansen are another question, one I don't know much about.

Agreed--- I see 30 other teams lining up to get Johansen if he becomes available--- the numbers he has put up---- that type of guy is rarely available--- teams would look at the numbers and overlook shortcomings--- Columbus will get a decent return from somebody--- IMHO Galchenyuk would not be enough

  3. Is Manfred saying that retired baseball players can't bet on baseball? I don't see how Rose's conduct after he has left the game is any business of Manfred's at all. What an arrogant JERK. I don't deny that he has the right to decide Rose's fate as far as reinstatement, but that is woeful rational as far as I am concerned.

  4. Boy, $11 mil is a spicy meatball - delicious but hard to digest. It raises the spectre of Montreal becoming like Pittsburgh, massively top-heavy in salary.

The really interesting question here is: could we manage it? E.g., shipping out Pleks and Markov would clear up most of the needed room, at least in the short term. Pacioretty's inevitable huge raise could be a problem. I'd be interested in folks' thoughts about how to fit Stamkos in, without crippling the team in other areas.

I don't believe for a second that Tampa lets him go. I would use the example of Chicago who has been very successful using a top heavy formula. Yeah, it can be done. Pittsburg even had some success a ways back. I don't see MB taking that big of risk.

  5. Personally, I don't make the move, at least not yet. I think we have relied on Price too much. This gives the rest of the roster an opportunity to step up and be accounted for. Let's just see where we are at.

  6. I wouldn't be so sure.

Tokarski cleared waivers once, I don't think they will be that worried about losing him.

IMO The backup once price is healthy will be the goalie who plays best between now and when that happens. I think they keep the better guy. Who that will be, we can wait and see. But I don't think waivers is a big part of the equation, if at all.

100% agreed-- the only caveat to that is if they don't separate themselves ex. they play equally as bad or as good-- i would assume they would lean to sending Condon down--- just because Price comes back doesn't mean he will stay healthy--- there is also the possibility they become a commodity that is marketable-- I think it is healthy to have the backups challenging for the role.

  7. It will be interesting to see if the Ice will play him, provided he reports. He could actually be productive down there if he give it a shot. His value is pretty low, so any positive statistics going forward would be valuable for him if he was seeking further employment elsewhere. What I am saying here, is that it may be in his best interest to bite the bullet, go down and try as hard as he can muster.

  8. So after Price signed, everyone expected the Dodgers to re-sign Zack Greinke. If not them, the Giants. Instead, he signs with Arizona. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Will he trump Price's AAV of $31 M per year?

Edit: Yes; yes he will. 6 years, $206.6 M - $34.43 M AAV. And I thought Price's deal was nuts...

A Rod signed for 10yrs 252 M to Texas in 2000--- it seems quite reasonable that there would be that much jump in 16 years--WOW

On the Toronto front-- still figuring out who's running the asylum-- left it too long to get top pitching. I figure they force teams to give up pitching by signing Davis and putting Encarnation on the market

  9. A Canadien's wishlist from Philly might also include Gagner and Voracek. I am not certain exactly what Philly would be looking for, but the higher end guys would be harder to work out without a third party, because neither the Canadiens nor Philly are in the position to take on significant salary. I could see Philly going the other way, and trying to get enough prospects to get somebody to bite on Lecavalier and freeing up more space.

  10. The centres were McCarron, Dumont, and MacMillan. Miceli was technically the 4th line C but with there only being 11 forwards, there were times where one of those three C's dropped down (and others where Miceli centered the line). The first post in the GDT has last night's lines.

Bad news on the Scherbak front - he's apparently out for another 6-8 weeks at a minimum.

Thanx dlbair-- you never talked about Tinordi so I assume a Wednesday return is correct

  11. Then there's the bonafide long-term injury conditioning loan (or whatever it's called). You can't be on the 23-man roster for that one. And players coming back from non long-term injuries have taken conditioning stints before while on IR so I'm not sure Therrien's entirely correct there. Even if he is, the long-term injury loan was an option.

i think they are pretty safe here. I expect he will need a lot of time in St. Johns before he is any good to anybody. Just a guess, but after the 14days conditioning there is a good chance they would have to send him back to St. John's at which point he may be of more value because he just completed his conditioning stint.

  12. I'm just going to assume nobody is available in Winnipeg since the last time they traded a roster player, they got Tyler Myers back. Unless we want to give up a Tyler Myers type player, Winnipeg ain't trading. They just don't do picks and prospects.

i just put it out there because it seemed that Buff might be available. Our package would have to be acceptable to the Islanders not Winnipeg. Commandant makes a good point that Buff isn't exactly a good fit and would be expensive. I think rosters can be changed and I value his flexibility for one. That's just me.
