    5 isn't a high bar.

If he repeats last season's performance of 5 goals against goalies this trade is a disaster.

He needs to be at 15-20 to have even a chance to win the deal.

Every analyst I’ve heard discussing this trade has stated that Domi has tremendous upside and that his 9 goals last year was the result of a bad year.  He has the potential for 20 goals for sure, and can also setup the play.  If he wins more puck battles than Galchenyuk and isn’t easily knocked off the puck, then I can see why MB made this trade.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t love this trade but I also don’t think Domi is Deslauriers.  Domi has the potential to be Gallagher.

Easier said than done though.  Suppose Arizona wants Hughes - why would they trade up?  Let the Habs take Kotkaniemi at 3, Ottawa gets Zadina/Tkachuk at 4 and they get their guy without giving up any other assets.

True.  My scenario only works if ARI want Zadina or Tkachuk - they do the trade to grab their guy (eg. Zadina).  Then OTT takes the other (Tkachuk).

I usually don't trust Engels' rumours, but if this is true: I can see the other half of the Domi trade happening with Arozona and Montreal swapping Draft picks and the CH getting a LD

Yes, I agree that will happen if MTL is deadset on taking Kotkaniemi.  No use taking him at 3rd when you can trade down and grab another asset and still get your guy at 5.

Why would we get a blackhawks player (duclair) for that?

Crap, meant Dauphin or some other C prospect that might be of interest to MB.

Or they swap 2nd rounders... my point is I bet MB is not done dealing with ARI.  It just feels there could be more to the discussions that took place when Domi for Galchenyuk was completed.

I don’t see it happening with how many picks we have in the second round.

Maybe.  Or instead of a pick MTL gets Duclair and ARI’s 5th overall pick for their 3rd overall pick?

Bah, the anticipation and speculations is killing me!

Burke isn't with an NHL team anymore but he still has a bunch of connections in the league.

I’m willing to bet that MB had discussions with Arizona during the Domi/Galchenyuk trade about swapping 1st round picks.  It wouldn’t surprise me to see MTL trade the 3rd overall for ARI’s 5th overall & one of their 3rd rounders - MB is waiting until the draft to see if CAR takes Svechnikov.  If they do, then I predict the following:

    1. Dahlin - BUF

    2. Svechnikov - CAR

    3. Zadina - ARI

    4. Tkachuk - OTT

    5. Kotkaniemi - MTL

Montreal gets their future 1C and an extra pick in the third round.  Kotkaniemi was their guy all along IMO.

I am really not sold on Kotkaniemi. I mean I'm sold on the possibility of him as an NHLer but not as a third overall pick.

I would much rather shoot for the second round centres and try for a centre in 2019.

Not sure if it was mentioned but who are centres in this draft that look promising after Kotkaniemi and Veleno?

  8. I’m a Habs fan and will always be a Habs fan.  Despite losing Chucky, who I liked quite a bit, that doesn’t mean I’ll start cheering for the Coyotes.  Arizona sucks, they don’t deserve a team.  I could care less about Chucky now.  Welcome to Mtl Domi.

    Go Habs Go!

Ok I am going to go to bed now, when I weak up I am hoping its just a nightmare and this trade never really happens. This is a dream within a  dream. Everything will be ok when I weak up????????????????????????

It could be worse, we could have gotten Tie Domi.

We don't need Strome. We have Drouin, Danault and our new #1C as of July 1 - Tomas Plekanec. That's all the C depth a team led by Marc Bergevin needs

Max Domi played centre in Arizona towards the end of the year.  You can bet 100% he’ll play centre in Mtl.

    C depth chart is now:

    Drouin

    Domi

    Danault

    De La Rose

    All begin with D...

concidering our lack of depth at C I think Kotkaniemi might make the team right away.

If they draft Kotkaniemi then yes, he plays right away as the third line centre:

    Drouin

    Danault

    Kotkaniemi

    De La Rose

barring any trades or signings of course.
