  1. It's getting painfull------lack of shots in the second was a puzzler. JMO but I thought Hudon had limited ice time tonight and wonder if he was playing through an illness of some kind. Rather than worrying about slipping into 4th place, I'm worried about slipping to the bottom. Crowd was smaller than anticipated since there was a promotion from the previous Wed game where when they won, everyone got a free ticket for the next Wed game meaning tonight. I expected more fans. Maybe so if the team was better. Still have no idea how the third Milwaukee goal went in and it sounds like the radio crew said the same thing per the post game show. Going to be a tough sell for the marketing dept if they miss the playoffs for the 4th year in a row And Sly has to go!
  2. had their chances - a lot went wide or skittered along the top of the bar although Bachman's star status might have been overly complementary. Got to stop giving up the early lead and then trying to come from behind. I think Bowman might have gotten hurt in a collision with his own player with a couple minutes to go. Joey Mac did make some big saves to keep them close. OKC really appeared to have a lot of big guys in all positions. Nygren out looking for his brother's watch.
  3. amateur night as far as officiating again. First LE goal was a mile offside and the D actually backed off in anticipation. Referee missed a nasty check from behind by Maggio at the 2:07 mark that led to a Crisp injury (you'd never know it by the weak post game show) and naturally the perp. got two minutes for roughing and the Dogs had two players (Dietz and Finley) get two each for roughing in retaliation. Crisp had two guys help him off the ice and to the dressing room and didn't return. High ankle sprain??? PP a problem again 0 for 6 isn't good. (honestly 0 for 5 as one penalty was at the 20;00 minute mark of the third) Thought Allen looked steady. Still not creating enough traffic in front of the net but the referee tonite likely would not have called anything in the way D men have been given a license to clean out the opposition without fear of penalty.
  4. Nygren would be scared sh*tless if he lived in Toronto. Absolutely nothing in the Burlington or Hamilton newspapers about the alleged assault on his brother. The unemployment rate is 6.7%. Crime rate is low enough that the Hamilton police budget ran a surplus. Sounds like someone has an axe to grind due to Magnus not playing closer to home. There are a fair number of walking wounded who likely should be institutionalized but that has been like that in any major city in Ontario since the Harris Government cut back spending on Mental Health.
  5. 4-1 final. Really getting tired of Sly's brand of hockey. Booster club was in Milwaukee Sat and also in Chicago. Long trip for some ugly hockey.
  6. Christian Thomas comes through. Dogs win 2-1. (and am sending Brian an Atlas so he sees Rockford is further north than Hamilton-lol)
  7. Dumont scratched-wife is expecting anytime now
  8. just my wish list-other posters make it sound like he is too tight with Bergevin to be canned (and Marc gave him a Teflon suit for Christmas). Frustrating also is the Marlies shut out the same Flames team today 2-0
  9. worse than yesterday. 5-0 final. So exasperating. 2-0 after the first two shots. Every time they have a half decent crowd, they stink out the joint. Took dumb penalties (e.g. Dumont goalie interference, Pateryn elbowing late). Lost every fight except Dowell vs Wolf and Dowell had indicated to Wolf that he didn't want to go. Only highlight for the Dogs was a Tinordi check which broke a panel of glass. Took ages to fix it as it was one of the panels not removed for concerts (in the east end) and the rubber gasket at the bottom was completely seized up. Dietz back to the slow DD we've seen before. Pateryn sure not the same player as last season. I honestly think they've stopped listening to the coach and based on his results, don't blame them . This organizational requirement of a French Cdn coach sure seems ludicrous in an era when half the team seems to be American with few French Canadian players. Maybe time to get rid of Sylvain and hire Peter Beboer who has a knack with younger guys.
  10. referee was Darcy Burchell, a Hamilton native yet who has done a fair number of NHL games in recent years but not by himself like today! In the years I saw him referee Senior AAA, he was fondly known as "Darce the Arse"
  11. honestly, to me it looked like a shift change and Crisp made a beeline for the player who cheap shotted Thomas (Stransky). He turned turtle to exaggerate the situation, but just the same, it was a dumb move on Crisp's part. Referee (Hanson) called some real softies-couldn't believe-he called a roughing on Finley earlier-no way he could see it unless he had eyes in the back of his head. Shot clock judge was soft again. Watched closely and we had three more shots that were direct that either didn't go up or sometime went on the wrong side!
  12. miscommunication on the second and third Caps goals. They were able to get two or three whacks at each. Dustin didn't have a lot of help and there seemed to be miscommunication between he and the D men at times which is understandable. Sly put the kiss of death on things when in a pregame interview inferred Dustin could likely steal a couple of games for the Dogs. IMO, bringing him in only created a lack of cohesion. Only two official shots by the Dogs in the third. I actually counted four but the shot judge is stingy on ones where the goalie doesn't have to make a big save and only has to stop or redirect a slow moving puck which no longer seems to count. I thought any shot that would go in regardless of speed counts. Oh well-nitpicking. The goal judge seems though to put shots up that are going wide but when a glove catch is made by the goalie.
  13. wonder if Thrower and Dietz, the two former Saskatoon Blades will play D together? Both coached out there by the Original Dogs coach Lorne Molliken (sp?)
  14. yep-fans and friends only. No groups. Just too many games this month and too many close to Christmas. Could have been some alternate stars. Condon was very good. Dietz probably played his best game ever as a Dog. No glaring errors. Crisp got suckered punched by Cormier as Cormier was going to the penalty box and got a roughing penalty for retaliating. Similar deal when Pateryn was boarded and retaliated. No extra penalty to Cormier for the cheap shot when going to the bench I guess hip checks are now illegal as Pateryn timed one beautifully and got an interference penalty. Tinordi's massive body check in centre ice seemed to get things rolling. Everyone tonight got a free ticket for the Jan 14 game-Winning Wednesday promotion. Finally got to meet my brother in law's best friend, Doug Gibson, who is head of pro scouting for the Habs. Referee's Moser and Nicholson get a C grade.....inconsistent on their calls and letting the cheap stuff go.....rematch Friday should be interesting. ps-1561 in Portland tonight. Not just us with attendance problems. Ticket prices still may be an issue in Hamilton as well as food prices---two poutines and two pops=$25.00 says it all. The greedy bastards at the adjacent parking lots have gone from $5.00 to $10.00. Just a few examples
  15. Greg isn't the same Greg as last season. I read the report citing his early cut from Mtl's camp seems to have put him in a funk. Seems though that coach Sly goes into the defensive mode with a one or two goal lead and it usually bites him in the a*s.
  16. wish they could dominate a game at home and win big. I'm sure the use of blood pressure medication by Hamilton fans would go down considerably. Dietz lost the puck a couple times in his own end tonight, one time leading to a Rochester goal. Trying to figure out if this is only the second or third regulation win at home. Koharski only had eyes for us tonight penalty wise (I'm sure a very sore Christian Thomas would agree that Rochester deserved at least a couple in the bin)
  17. agreed -and three games in less than 24 hrs each (7:30, 5:00, 3:00) is tough. Stars had yesterday off. JMO but Thomas has to start picking it up. Interesting that the winning goal was at 5:04 of OT-which would not have been doable last season. They were still 4 on 4 as they had gone a long time without a whistle. The rink announcer announces the 3 minute mark meaning 3 on 3 as soon as there is a whistle. Still frustrating though is the number of home wins without OT. Got to build up some more home wins to try and interest anyone but Marlie fans ps-Condon appeared to be injured when run over in OT but no call. Didn't come out for his first star award
  18. what is frustrating Don (and speaking as a Bulldog STH) is that they couldn't have done this at home last night where the beer fuelled crowd seems to be about 40% blue and white (and I don't mind Marlies fans-It's the Leaf jerseys-specifically the ones who live in the past i.e. lettered Gilmour, Andreychuk (sp), etc. and have no clue what they're watching.) The Friday night games vs the Marlies attract a different crowd-cheap beer gets them going until 7:30 and then tall boys the rest of the game. No hockey etiquette as far as waiting for a whistle. A lot of mid 20s who seem to be there to be seen and not watch the game. Probably a lot won't return when they find out the cheap suds stopped at 7:30 Just a word of warning on the Cirillo jerseys if anyone is bidding. They were done on the cheap unfortunately. Lettering and Cresting is screen printed and sublimated. Numbers are iron ons! There are a few things still not just right with me re this organization. I guess it started the last couple years where they did a bait and switch with the Jerseys off our Backs draw. Wore a cheaper jersey the night of the draw and that was what was given away. The jump in 50/50 prices. The poor souvenir program. Maybe I wouldn't be so bitchy if we had seen them win more than one or two games at home in regulation. Cheers
  19. something they are going to have to work out with CHML is the duration of the post game show. I was disappointed with its' short duration. I guess because of the o/t and the complete dry scrape, they thought they were short on time. Not sure how short the show would have been had they gone to a full seven minute o/t and a shoot out! I would have like to heard comments from Sly and a couple players re the second period meltdown. Instead, they cut Anthony off at 6pm for a Cdn Press Newscast and then went to a best of Bill Kelly program (a rebroadcast of one his shows from earlier in the week). Kelly's wife is an lawyer who sponsors his show so maybe she calls the shots at CHML. I'm not sure they would have cut off a Ticats show in the same manner. (to this day, I think they still don't realize that some of their most loyal post game show listeners are listening from their cars on the way home. I like Anthony's post game show in general compared to the ones where Derek Wills went over stats ad nauseum and wasted Al Craig's talents and opinions) -you guys know what I think of AHL officiating-a pro game with amateur officials. Of the two officials, Tom Chmielewski seemed to call a majority of the penalties against Hamilton and IMO, did help Rochester get back in the game in the second period
  20. Nygren gets a late one to make it 4-3. I thought they deserved better then this-two posts and one cross bar hit in the second and if one of them could gone in, it would have really helped going into the third. Bennet made a bad play to give away the puck early in the third which seemed to turn the momentum towards the Flames. I will say Adirondack's logo is neat and appears to be the old Atlanta logo with minor mods. I'm not panicking yet but the crowds have been poor although four years of losing teams will do that to the box office. Last good team was with Randy Cunnysworth coaching. I thought Macenauer (sp?) looked like he is trying to play his way down to Wheeling New arena management still needs to use their heads. Some Ticat fans made it to the game with about four minutes left in the first period. To accommodate the CFL game and fans of both the Cats and Dogs, the hockey game could have easily been put back to a 7:30 start
  21. Joey Mac didn't come out for his third star acknowledgement. To me, he waved at two that went in under the bar and then didn't cover the third one. Single ref again missed a lot of stuff behind the play
