  1. JMMR-thanks for posting the clip-was listening to the Bulldog's postgame show on the way home from the Copps tonight (Dogs won 5-3 over Abbotsford btw) and Derek Wills and Al Craig did a play by play of the shoot out in Boston off their monitors. They kept yelling put in Gally. And mentioned Rask's meltdown when leaving the ice too.
  2. Dogs hold on to win 5-3. Tenute with a nice two goals. Belzile looked right at home and was one of the stars. Mayer let in a couple softies in the third period but can be forgiven as the shots were all by the Heat in the second and third. Chaput hurt in a collision with Stortini. Other notes: Barry Brust replaced Taylor in the Heat goal at the start of the second period PBP mentioned Mayer has never had a shut out in his pro career. I thought when Pateryn put the Dogs up 4-0 it might happen The defense in the second and third reminded me of a three stooges routine-just too much runnning around and I think the puck was in the Dogs end in the second period for the first five minutes for example. Merth was used only sparingly.
  3. Daltan Leveille scored for San Francisco last nite in a 2-1 shootout loss to Stockton. Radio broadcasts of Bulls games are available via a link on the team website. Currently four players who have dressed for the Bulldogs this year on the SF roster. Former Syracuse Crunch broadcaster Jason Lockhart is the team broadcaster and media guy.
  4. nice road win and it was cool to see the two goalies hugging post game. Off topic-I've noticed on the Crunch website that they are clearing a bunch of "Pro" jerseys going back to the team's affiliation with Columbus for as little as $40.00. Under the store part of the website, you have to click on all the jersey topics to find them.
  5. Hamilton Spectator print version has been absolutely mute on the roster changes lately. (their website has the occasional press release issued by the Dogs) Most recent article was on the Vail signing. Coverage seems to go to whatever reporter draws the short straw and probably the best reporter, Scott Radley, now has a radio show on CHML from 9-10pm M-F which means his regular attendance at the rink is over
  6. my lord-three anthems-Canadian, God Bless America, & Star Spangled Banner. Cdn was recorded, the other two done by two different kid's choirs. I guess that's one way for marketing to get more bodies in the audience. About this time in the season, I find the cow bells very grating - anyone else?????
  7. I actually got hit by a soccer ball kicked by then Brampton Batallion Wojtek Wolski at the Guelph arena. The Batallion Players were fooling around pre game in the long narrow corridor coming from the rear of the complex
  8. re Zach. I'm pretty sure that I've seen situations nightly where he has been in scoring postion and routinely missed (where other's wouldn't have). I guess there were some good feelings when he was signed on this season going back to memories of him being a member of the Calder Cup winning team but his lack of speed sure doesn't warrant the third line. I first saw him about ten years ago at a Mississauga Ice Dogs vs Sudbury Wolves game and will admit, he seems to have progressed from his days of being the designated heavyweight for Sudbury. He's not a local as mentioned above, being from Elliot Lake, Ont., but the over use of the local player ("Hamilton Native") adjective by PBP re Hagel and Tenute has worn thin anyways and is meaningless. To give him credit, he does appear much more serious in his approach to the game than the other Zach from last year (Fitzgerald) who was more of the class clown/designated fighter/7th D man variety. It's great that the coaching staff seem to be developing players who are stepping into the NHL relatively seamlessly, but there is a cost. As I mentioned before, this is always the problem selling minor league hockey, especially close to major league markets. You can't sell it on the "Star" system like major league hockey because as soon as a player gets really good, he is either called up or becomes trade bait. I'm hoping Hamilton can sign a couple more quality "name" vets to AHL contracts next season as I don't think local fans will support a door mat team three seasons in a row. That format, though, hasn't guaranteed good things in the past (Wilsie and Manlow come to mind) PS-our seats at the Copps are in row 4 west end (Bay St) so usually take the rarely used down escalator from the front doors. An hour before game time we sort of have to wade our way through the team soccer game (Chaput has quite a boot!) but recently had to laugh when we saw Zach balancing on a folding chair trying to retrieve the ball he had kicked and firmly wedged between two ventilation pipes. We were waiting for him to fall but he made it ok-wonder how that would have looked on an injury report????
  9. Brian: Ouellet has been a pretty steady goal a game type player through his college career and this year with the Bulls has 52 points in 66 games. The only disconcerting thing is that he is a minus 23 for the season. Getting back to thoughts on this Dog's season, I honestly never thought Stortini would still be on the third line. Friends are going to the games in Syracuse and Bingo on the weekend so I'll try and get their impression of the new players. They don't have high hopes but were tempted by the thoughts of that Dinosaur Bar-b-que restaurant chain in Syracuse (-also one in Rochester in an old train station right by the rink if you ever get there)
  10. Mike Commodore has signed a PTO with the Texas Stars
  11. - what I meant re the jerseys off our back deal Ian is that they have already sold tickets on players who will no longer be on the roster. -the San Francisco roster will now have four players who played for the Dogs this season. Two other players with Dogs experience, Beauregard and Hendrikx, were cut early in the SF season
  12. San Francisco Bulls website mentions their Dean Ouellet is on his way to Hamilton!!!!
  13. I guess I'll have to remove the "Free Avtsin" off my signature at this site, Interesting that two Dogs are going to San Francisco. Since my wife and I attended a SF Bulls game in November, I think there are only four or five of the players we saw still on the active roster. I think the Bulls have gone through over 60 players so far-will have to take a count once the new guys show up on the roster (it's sure going to bugger up the current jerseys-off-our backs promotion BTW-this year it looks like they are using genuine regular issue jerseys for the promotion. Last couple years they used a cheaper one off jersey (for example no CH crests) used during the pink in the rink promotions)
  14. well stated Brobin! Out of curiousity, do you know if it was Devorski or L'ecuyer that made the call on PK? I was just listening in on 660 on the 'puter
  15. was the bad call made by Devorski, who at 54 years old can't keep up any longer or L'ecuyer who is ECHL talent at best. Devorski guesses at calls when he can't see them cleanly!
  16. I hated Ott when he was a Bulldog.................LOL. But he's the kind of agitator that you'd like on your team
  17. Bulldogs have just released Tyler Murovich per a press release at 8:30 pm today
  18. David Banfield's officiating (or non officiating) is one real negative to this game
  19. Peter Delmas has been named ECHL goaltender of the Week
  20. he's currently living in Chicago so I wonder if there is something in the works in that area? That is really sad, I agree. He has been on the Bulldog's roster sheet since the injury so, I was hoping he was making progress. I guess everyone seemed more concerned initially about the skull fracture but seemed to forget the concussion which must have been more severe than initially reported.
  21. Mayer could have sued for non support. Started off on the wrong foot again with Tenute gettting a tripping penalty (for tapping a player on the calf and when he felt it, went down-I would rate it a 9.5). The way the officials called the game, Lemelin (41) & Sylvain (16), had a lot of people pulling out their hair again. Leblanc and Blundin both got boarding calls on what appeared to be heavy checks (that made a lot of noise) PBP was mentioning this too that it seemed to be the third staight game where the officiating was questionable PBP still seems to have dim hopes for the playoffs but I think we're all realists in the fanbase. Corbin dressed tonight instead of Desantis and was used sparingly. It was tweeted that the coach refused to do a post game interview so perhaps he was afraid what he might say re AHL officiating. I can only guess Brian-do you think Avtsin will ever play another game in the AHL???? (Griffins used goalie Tom McCollum from nearby Sanborn NY. Tom played for the OHL Guelph Storm back in the day)
  22. just got back-nice crowd of slightly under 5,000. Nice comeback and I really enjoy Joey Tenute's play making talent as Brian pointed out earlier this season. Ran into a lot of iffy penalty calls again. I know you guys think I sound like a broken record but Jon McIssac was working alone and his calls didn't favour the home side. Stortini ended up coming in to help Leveille who was getting mugged in a scrum, after a whistle in front of the Peoria Net, and ended up with a roughing penalty and then an extra two when he chirped. PK was good and Mayer looked good again. PBP mentioned some interesting rumours re next year in the league-for example Abbotsford becoming Vancouver's farm club and perhaps Peoria moving too. Apparently Des Moines is looking for a team. Always has been a lot of movement in minor league hockey as minor league teams cannot operate on the "Star System". Once a player develops marquis status, he is almost always called up to the NHL. It becomes difficult when fans get attached to the players as once they develop a local following, they get called up or traded. It is a hard premise to sell minor league hockey as a development league to some fans, and that become the team's undoing ultimately at the box office Anyways-good comeback. A little bit of a comical error when the PA announcer announced the starting officials that were in TORONTO! 2012-13 Bulldogs card sets are available from L'Imaginaire Hobby Shop in Quebec City . They also still have a couple sets of Citadelles cards available-one set autographed with Garon, Ryder & Asham for example) http://www.imaginaire.com
