  1. McDonaugh reminds me alot of Gorges. I was at the game and watching both of these guys closely. When you think of Gorges what comes to mind? He is not great defensively, not physical, not offensive, not a good fighter.....just a warrior. He wears his heart on his sleeve, never gives up, plays positional hockey and is a leader. I see so many of those qualities with McDonaugh.

Losing him does hurt no doubt because he would be in that line-up right now but if Gomez can play like he did against those Rangers on a fairly consistent time then I think we are going to be OK.

  2. In fairness Rinne looked horrible on that shot. I think he was thinking pass so was leaning to his left slightly. Perfct sht none the less.

Pacioretty has been a great find though. I think most were expecting him to be a Mike McPhee type of player but he has become a John Leclair but with more speed. My only knock on the guy is that I wish he woyuld take the body just a little bit more. Too often he peels off on the forecheck. There are many times in the game when he can hit a D-man but ultimately decides not to. Not sure if this is a result of Martin not wanting players to get out of position to finish a check or if it is a personal thing.

In time I hope Max improves on that side of the game.

  3. Carter is not the answer to our woes. Yes he is a big guy and a consistent 30-35 goal scorer but he just doesn;t seem to be a prototypical Martin type of player. The cost t acquire him would be high and the impact of a trade like this may screw up our chemistry really bad.

I think if the habs are to make a move it is going to be either for a D-man or some 4th line roll players.

  4. For me I don't care who is in the line-up it is their job to win. And I am sorry but to be happy with a .500 record after playing Carolina and the Islanders is absolutely ridiculous. Yes we had 4 rookies, a player who only played 100 games and Gorges on D but the Islanders are the 2nd worst team in the league and iced a pretty ad line-up as well.

Streit, Jurcina, Mottau, MacDonald, Staois and Hamonic......Apart from Streit is that an NHL d-core on any other NHL team except for the Islanders? Our forwards should have dominated the Islanders forwards and should have been difficult for the Islanders D to contain. But we didn't. And to give up 2 points like that should never be recommended because of the effort.

But for anyone to argue against Budaj, seriously? If not against the worst team in the league then who? Were you complaining after Budaj stoned the Preds a couple of games ago as well?

  5. Jeff Carter may have asked for a trade out of Columbus.

On-ice he's the perfect type of centre we need.... great two way game, Size, goal scoring, etc.... However his off-ice issues are well known, and I'm not sure if Montreal is the right place for him.

I like Carter but he has been the most effect when playing on the wing. He makes a good cap number with long term but he's proved he can produce.

  6. Agreed there, but I'm not advocating breaking them up right away. Eventually they will stop producing and its at that point you can move DD to wing. If you were able to acquire that 1B centre tomorrow and stuff Gomez in the minors, you can put Eller on the wing for a short time, with the 1b, until its time to alter DD's line. Its really not a bad problem to have.

Certainly not.....depth depth depth. Key to any good team.

  7. Forgot about Stamkos.

Difference of opinions though I guess. Just drawn to different players.

I look at the names on the list and look at the linemates they have. Staal played with Cole who is basically just a 25 goal scorer and then a mishmash of 3rd liners. Despite this the guy is still a point per game player. Crosby has Malkin on the PP, Sedin has Sedin, Stamkos has St,.Louis, Getzalf has Perry. Thornton has Marleau, Toews has Kane. Staal has Cole. Hardly the same elements here.

I just adore the guy like I said.

  8. I think he produces because of his great hockey IQ. I still think he'll produce on the wing, but he'll be given much easier defensive assignments, where he's not asked to contain cycling forwards down low. This is the biggest problem in his game, and its the reason why he's effective defensively on the PK but not 5 on 5. On the PK he's able to play higher, and his job is to anticipate passes and get in front of shots, but not necessarily to win board battles.

At the same time the line working right now. I'd hate to break them up.

  9. Subban is the best defensive prospect this team has had since Chris Chelios. I like Tinordi, Beaulieu, Ellis, etc... but I really don't think they are at that same level.

For Weber I'd probably move him because we are talking Norris contender already vs potential Norris contender.

For Staal I don't, because I really don't see Staal among the top 5 guys in the league at his position. He's good, but I'm not convinced he's among that very top tier, and Subban has the potential to be in that top tier for D IMO.

I love PK. Have 2 jerseys, a T, I mean I just adore everything about him but no player on this team, except for maybe Price is an untouchable for me.

I think the problem with Staal is that he plays in a market where nobody cares about hockey so we never hear or see him. I love the guy though. Whether it's his point production on a horrible team, his leadership in the playoffs, the physicality of his game, I just adore the guy. Would love to see him in a Habs uniform.

Out of curiosity which centers would you have ahead of him? There are players like Sedin, Backstrom who produce more points but I would personally take Staal perhaps over every center in this league except for maybe: Crosby, Getzlaf, Gomez,Toews, and Datsyuk.

  10. I still think we should be looking for a centre who compliments Plekanec with Gomez's money. Thats a bigger need to me, than keeping Kostitsyn. I'd like to do both ideally... but if push comes to shove, and its one or the other, give me the centre.

If we get another center then apart from Gomez which one leaves? Plekanec/DD/Eller?

  11. IMO the problem wasn't with our D (as a group), but our overall setup in our end.....guys (forwards) not picking up the extra man coming in etc....

And once again, (from what I saw in the 3rd) we looked like we were playing for a tie (even though we were down 2)

Emelin didn't look good out there either. A couple of plays where he was in the wrong place, covered the wrong guy, was looking the wrong way.

Gotta love Martin as well. Hmmmmmmm we need a goal with under 2 mins to play. Hmmmmmm should I use Pacioretty or Cole......Na......let's go with Gomez who has not scored a goal in the NHL since February.

  12. When AK46 comes back then I don;t see how Moen can stay on the 3rd if it means Gomez on the 4th......that's just got disaster written all over it.

We really need to address Gomez because it is getting worse and worse by the game. I feel for the guy because he is apparently a nice person, great teammate but wow...this is brutal.

  13. Kostitsyn at least does more than Gomez but $4.5 is too high. I have absolutely nothing against #46 and want him on this team going forward but if he wants more than even $4.0 then I am parting with him now. Nashville is a good fit because they need scoring and have some grinder type forwards that we can use. Sign him or trade him.

  14. Josh Gorges, a #3/4 guy who's played 383 NHL games, was our most experienced defender. Subban, his partner, is in his sophomore season (though playing well enough to say he's avoiding any slump). We had Diaz, Emelin, St Denis and Weber - all of whom had to play reasonable minutes because we can't just have two defenders on the ice. With a healthy defence corps, probably three out of these four guys are in the AHL. The other either on the wing or in the press box. Yes, we played the Isles. But we played them on the rear end of a two-in-two-days schedule. Our defence are young, inexperienced, and not used to playing so much at such a high level in such a short time. So even if it was the Isles, there were going to be mistakes. Price can't play 82, Budaj has to get in the net. Every once in a while Price flops, last night Budaj wasn't at his best.

In a perfect world, we beat the Isles. I'm sure the Bruins are thinking that, in a perfect world, we don't take two straight against them. Excrement happens. The team learns and moves on. By the way, the Isles have beaten Minnesota, Tampa, the Rags, and Washington. It's not like we lost to the worst team ever. Parity means that the worst can still beat the best.

yes we had a young line-up last night but there was no excuse out there. We just played horrible. Those are the games we have to win and we did not regardless of who was playing.

  15. I admit that I was among those defending Gomez at the beginning of the season. he needs time I thought, he'll rebound I was saying....but no more. Yes he won 80% of his faceoffs last night but Eller has become a complete non-factor now that Gomez is back. It is time to face a very hard decision right now. Send Gomez to Hamilton? See if a team will take him if we including a top prospect and take a bad contract in return?

Not sure the answer but Gomez has to go.

Oh yeah and I agree. For me I would rather see the team try to land a tougher 4th liner then a D-man. With Moen and White on the 4th line I would love to see a defensive minded tough 4th line center like a Gaustad. Not sure who is out there though.

  16. I think the canes just suck, because they went out and signed too many ex-leafs - including the coach -_- Kind of the same issue Calgary has after making that idiotic Phaneuf deal.

No way I'd make that deal!

I'd trade him for Malkin. No way i'd do it for Stall.

Personally I would take Staal over Malkin. The guy is a point per game player playing with absolute crap around him and has missed almost no games due to injury. Regardless of what he does in the regular season he is even better in the playoffs. If we could trade Subban to land a guy like Staal then IMHO Gauthier would be an idiot not to.

I know right now we are thin on D but when Campoli and Markov return we are going to have a pretty deep D-core. And we do have Tinordi, Beaulieu, even guys like Ellis on the horizon. Sure they are question marks because we don;t know if they can be as good as PK but with the depth at D we have combined with the fact we have been searching for a big center for so many years, it is a no brainer for me.

  17. I would part with Subban. He's likely my fav player in the league next to Seabrook but despite a fondness of him given the right deal I would part with him. say fro instance Nashville is shopping Weber because they cannot afford him. I'd gladly give up Subban to make that deal.
