  1. Maybe it's just perspective but I recall pretty much every game watching Gill battle and push the opposition from the front of the net. He also positioned himself in ways to prevent guys from getting to those scoring areas. Players like Emelin and Subban are more physical along the boards but from what I remember, again maybe just perspective, they rarely battled guys in front. Instead they allowed the opposition to stand there and would go for the block instead.

I truly hope it is an element we address

  2. You're of the mindset that we should challenge for a cup this year perhaps? Nothing wrong with that, but I don't think Bergevin and Co.think that way. I think he is looking at contending 2 or 3 years down the road, and I think any moves he makes will reflect that. If we can sign Doan to a decent deal (see the Doan tread) then I wouldn't have a problem, but when it comes to trading our young guys and prospects, I'm not so sure thats the road we need to take this year.

    Definitely not of that mindset.

I am of the mindset to keep our young players and picks or at least those assets which you feel have a long term future with the team.

I am for going after a playoff birth simply to give much needed experience to our younger players but under no circumstances do we sell the farm right now

  3. Yanic Perreault and carboneau were among the best centers in the game, neither were very big, or considered the strongest on their team.

These guys also practiced draws with hundreds of pucks every single day. It was their speciality so they worked on it.

For fun I just looked at the best FO men last season. Here is the list of the top 10. Toews, Bergeron, Pavelski, Steckel, Gaustad, Gordon, Vermette, malhotra, Halpern, Datsyuk.

Apart from a couple, these are some big guys.

  4. Maybe I am wrong here but the problem that I see is that our centers try to win every single faceoff clean instead of going for the draw and battling for possession like some of the very best centers do. perhaps it is time to bring in someone who can teach these guys how to maintain possession simply by tying up a stick and then waiting for the bigger bodies to come in and take the puck.

Maybe this comes down to the size and strength issue? A reason why guys like iginla and Doan although wingers generally do well in the faceoff circle.

  5. I was just taking a look at the oilers D-men

what do you guys think about someone like peckham or sutton....both are relatively cheap could probably be had for next to nothing (weber + an extra 4th liner or late pick) and would add a different element to our bottom pairing.

I dont know too much about Sutton but I like the fact that Peckham plays hard, Peckham is also a RFA and Sutton only has a year left.

Maybe Kaberle would be an option there......

Peckham is one of those guys I've wanted here for a while. But if we want to add a depth guy like that then I would rather target Florida to see if we can somehow obtain Keaton Ellerby

  6. Remember when before the season we had a Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta line pegged as a trio only to see them do nothing at all. I think the same will happen and we'll see a drop in play of Cole which will split the 2 and a half men line.

Cole will still net us a good 25-29 goals but I don't see him hitting that 30 mark again.

With that said a change needs to be made. Not sure where or how but this team struggled to score goals last season and very little was done to change that.

We have a fresh management team, fresh coach so think we need to start fresh with something up front. Because of this I truly hope that Bergevin doesn't just tinker with the line-up but makes one wholesale change.

Does that mean Doan, Morrow, Sharp, I am not sure but something with impact has to happen to that forward group.

I've said all along that Desharnais was to me at least the odd man out but if we are a cap conscious team then perhaps we have to consider parting with who I think is our best forward in Plekanec.

  7. Guys there is a difference between fighting and playing soft. I am not saying we need fighters on D, I am saying we need bigger bodies who can protect the front of the crease and clear space for Price. Guys like Emelin and SUbban are great at the perimeter and open ice hitters but when bodies get in front of Price they struggle.

Look at the difficulties players had to get to the front of the net when they had to try to get around players like Komisarek or Gill. These players rarely fought but made it difficult for the opposotion. Now big opposing players have to get by the likes of Markov, Kaberle, Diaz, Weber and even Bouillon. Not exactly difficult to do.

  8. Personally I listen to TSN 990 about 10 hours per day while in the car and at work. Simply put Montreal radio sucks ass. I can't stand listening to the bad music and horrible talk shows. I'll likely tune into RDS anyway since I am bilingual but not hearing Shaun Starr, Price, Melnyk, Teaman will leave a void. And yes I did leave out Marinaro who I place in the same category as Hockeyy Insiderr

  9. Personally I don't want 6 guys who are like mcQuaid but we need 1 or 2 of them.

We need a big strong guy like Komisarek, Rivet, Quintal to be paired with a better skating guy. Reason why Gorges and Gill had success or Markov and Komisarek.

I would like to see us add a guy like Matt Green or at a reduced price even a guy like Kubina.

We don;t need a goon just someone large enough to help clear Price' vision

  10. I am glad he's not here. I mean i wish he was part of the organizational but if he was a coach every week we'd be hearing about he should be the head coach. Problem with our superstars is that it is always about them. Instead it has to be about the team.
