  1. There's a difference between an overpay and a trade that EA sports would reject and laugh at you for even suggesting.

Why doesn't Pierre suggest the Oilers trade RNH for number 3 overall so they can have both Galchenyuk and Yakupov? Because its a ridiculous non starter.

An Overpay is #3 + 33 + Beaulieu; that is at least plausible... but for an NHL analyst to go on the air with this suggestion just shows he's out of touch with player valuation.

I think the reason s because Edmonton wants Murray and Habs want Yakupov. So it would make sense for Edmonton to ask the world for the guy if he is far and away the best players available. Doesn't mean Habs would even remotely consider it.

  2. 3.5, 4.5, then 1.66, and 1.66 after that.

I don't want 4 more years of Gomez on the cap, even if 1.66 is small, its still a hit for a guy not even on the roster.

The line at the World Championships in 2011 was Cerevenka - Plekanec - Jagr.... Guess who has Cerevenka?

    Top of my head.....Boston.

A $1.67 cap hit to me is manageable. It all depends on Molson though. Ideal situation would be for Gomez to go play in Zurich or something

  3. I don't think we'll drop at all. I think we'll grab Forsberg if Galchenyuk is gone.

I really have this gut feeling Grigorenko is a dark horse pick who'll exceed expectations. I envision a Kopitar type of career and his stock has dropped around the draft just as Kopitar's did during his time.

  4. Thats a bold statement.

    I would disagree.

Don't get me wrong. PK is my favorite player in the league. Absolutely love the guy. I just think Murray and Dumba will be better.

So as a follow up as well.....Habs would land a decent prospect in De Haan plus shed the $7.4 cap hit which would be free to throw a massive deal to Parise or Suter or something.

  5. If we're trading Subban... why not send him west and get the 1st overall? Yakupov & Gally would be the next Sedin's.

I donno why people a fretting over Gomez. There's no panic. New CBA coming, and either way. His cap hit is 2M$ more than what he's being paid. He is now a small market commodity. And the way offensive players have bounced back after leaving Montreal. Someone will take a swing.

Honestly I would rather have Murray or Dumba. I think both will have better careers than PK.

  6. Agreed, I think he was very entertaining in his time here. Thats why we should draft Grigs, people say, oh, not another Kovalev, but I say, if we can get an 18 year old Kovy, who in their right mind wouldn't want that?

    His teammates

  7. Did anyone watch the TSN mock draft last night? Did you hear what that idiot Mcguire said that Edmonton should ask for the top pick? Pk, and Montreals 1st round pick, for the first pick. He is obviously undervaluing PK, in my mind. Mind you, this is what he said Edmonton should ask for, not what Montreal should do, but still, glad this guy wasn't chosen as the GM.

If the rolls were reversed would Montreal not ask for the same thing. If you want the #1 overall, severely overpay.

  8. How big a contract do you think Jagr is getting.

And no, you are not buying out Gomez unless there is an Amnesty provision, the buy out cap hits are too big and not worth it. Send him to Hamilton.

I got attacked on Twitter when I disagreed with this. I would be willing to bury the contract but a buyout would not be a detriment. It's not like we'll be a contender this year so why not buy him out and spend the $3.5 cap hit on Gomez. Next year it will be a $4.5 cap hit but we'll have the cap space with many entry level contracts on the horizon.

If I am Molson I wouldn't bury the contract at all. Convince him to play in Europe or buy him out. As a fan though I say bury it.

  9. I don't see this as a comparison at all. As mentioned Leblanc may have the hockey smarts but he lacks the footspeed, and I would say play making ability to be a top 2 center on any team. He is being groomed as a RWer and rightfully so.

As for the draft so many questions. You know Montreal wants galchenyuk because he spent 2 days here last week being shown the city and what not. Galchenyuk wants to come here and we want him. Question is whether Columbus takes him first. If Galchenyuk is gone at 2 then I would not be surprised to see MB possibly move down in the draft. Drop from 3 to somewhere between 7-10.

  10. Yeah, he had 16 points in 56 AHL games last season - well worth giving up one of the top defencemen of his generation for.

De Haan is young and we'd also get the #4. Alot of talk that Murray will be the steal of the draft so if we can get Gaklchenyuk and Murray along with De Haan I don;t think that's as bad as you make it out.

  11. I get you Wiley. I'm not saying we should sign him...I'm just indulging a nostalgic reverie... try not to wake me... do not disturb....

Kovalev was magic for the fans but he was a cancer....pardon the pun, in the locker room. if not for Kovie my guess is Koivu would retire a hab, Gomez would have never been acquired, etc...

  12. Eggs actly. Kovalev was a maestro. I miss the magic.

He played 22 games last year and although the guy had skills he individually tore apart that team. He is horrendous in the locker room, and we don;t need that anymore.

  13. I don't think Jagr is washed up and his production last year proves that however it is not the direction I want to go with. We need to get bigger and meaner and IMO keep going with youth. I would much rather see a guy like Parenteau here than Jagr even though Jagr and Pleks are good friends.

With that said, if we did sign him I don;t think it would be a mistake.

  14. Million dollar question! I would say would be flip a coin between Forsberg-Murray.

I did a lame/informal collation of all rankings/mock drafts and found Galchenyuk as 2nd rated (in all recent mock-ups/rankings), Forsberg-Murray were identically ranked overall at 3rd and Grigorenko below these.

But will see who Bob McKenzie has at #3 today and cant beat his track record of ranking 1st round.

Personally I'd go with Grigorenko over Forsberg.

  15. What do we think of Bouwmeester? Send Gomez/weber and something else (3rd maybe?). He completely lost it in Calgary and seeing if he can return to his Floridian form with a change of scenery could be worth it at the right price. His cap hit is 6.8 mil for the next two seasons, which is a savings on Gomez's deal. I can see Calgary as a possible landing spot for Gomez because they're always looking for a playmaking forward to feed Iginla, and despite Gomez's recent uselessness, they could be reminded of his reputation. Also, I read somewhere that Cgy is going to be operating under an internal salary cap, and next season is when Gomez's salary decreases to 5mil, so they would see him as a 5 mil player, not 7+. It wouldn't get rid of Gomez's cap hit, but it would transform It into something potentially useful, and wouldn't add any length to the deal.

I'd give Bouwmeester the Komi treatment: play him with Markov and watch him become an all-star.

Pretty sure Jbo would requite a much larger return even if he has not lived/played to expectations.

  16. I like the way you think. Whatever it takes to get Big Bird on board, that's what we should do.

I suspect that, as an organization, you don't want to force guys to stick around if they are interested in a position elsewhere. If Larry truly wants the Montreal job, I'm sure the Devils will relent. Maybe I'm naive, but this just seems like sound management of human beings to me.

All reports are saying Daigneault but he is saying he hasn't been signed and is presently working for the Rangers. Then you hear that Robinson will be getting an interview for the job. I think both I and Del Frisco's want to see Big Bird back in town.

  17. If you (by some miracle) sign Suter or acquire another stud blueliner, then you trade Markov.

But without having anyone to replace Markov on the blueline, dealing him almost guarantees extended mediocrity for les canadiens regardless of who you get back. His absence - along with general weakness on the back end - was our single biggest problem last season, so I don't see why you'd move him unless you plan an extended rebuild.

Depends what is out there. What is Markov's value via trade? Are we talking a young prospect? A roster player? A high pick? What if in a hypothetical we can deal Markov and then replace him via trade with (insert name here). I don't want to see any rock unturned. Weigh all possibilities.

  18. mock draft well done sir, of course i would switch in Bozon at 33rd and maybe Winther at 51 and Hudon is likely an OK call for first token Quebecer; but still 64 is much higher than rated. He was only rated 94th of just North American skaters, so should be a 4th rounder at best.

I would prefer Mitchell Moroz at 64 and Hudon take at 94th or some other long shot quebecer.

As well as Galchenyuk did at combine, Columbus may grab him at 2 eh?

Thre is a very good chance of that meaning.....Do we go with Grigorenko or another D?

  19. Don't forget Ellis he'll be an NHLer as well. Would also like to see a guy like Dietz as well.

If I am MB I would actually be looking to part with Markov. Wings have a big void on the PP with the loss of Lidstrom and Stuart. You know they are going to make a pitch for Suter and possibly Jbo but it would be interesting to see Markov's value via trade.
